It should have been on video because a lot of people say things in a funny sarcastic way and don’t mean to sound snobby, but she did. I also think the interviewer was kind of rude/harsh by the questions they were asking and that makes the person less apt to open up.

I was put off for mostly the same reasons you were. I’m very familiar with the interviewer, Matt Pais. Metromix is partnered with ChicagoNow, which is where I interned this summer/fall. I never met him but I’ve read a lot of his work. I don’t fault him here, both because I know the Metromix style and I know what it’s like to be in his position. I think he was just trying to work with what she was giving him, which wasn’t much. She seemed very uninterested, even rude. Now I’m sure she’s done a million interviews lately and probably many that day. But she certainly didn’t seem to be putting forth her best side. As you said, though, it might come off differently if we saw it or heard it.

This is in response to the Leighton Meester interview. I really adore both Leighton and the character of Blair but I definitely see why you were put off by it because I was too! For me. . . I don’t think she came off as very likable in some of her answers and also I disagreed with some of the questions the interviewer asked. Maybe the whole thing would have been presented better as a video/audio interview where we can actually see her facial expressions and hear how she words the answers but it seemed kind of careless and sarcastic..
