RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: Some Gossip Girl scoop regarding Rufus and Lily, please. They’re my favorite couple, and we’ve heard nothing about them. —Sly
Ausiello:
A certain rat Bass-tard is going to come between them early in the season—relax, I’m not talking romantically. While Lily is more than willing to forgive Chuck for what happened with Jenny, Rufus is having a harder time moving past it. And just when he finally starts to come around, Eric lets him in on a little secret (hint: It pertains to an ugly incident from the pilot). Cue World War III.

Question: I fell in love with Dan and Vanessa last season on Gossip Girl. Needless to say, Dan’s out-of-nowhere “signs” about Serena in the finale threw me for a loop. Please say Dan and Vanessa aren’t over for good as a couple. —Sarah
Ausiello:
I’m guessing it’s not over, since they move in together in episode 3!

Fun Fact

14 05 2010

All but two one teen dramas have main characters who are also musicians/singers.

On Beverly Hills 90210, we got our first real taste of David’s musical inclinations in season 3 when he started recording his own music and later performing at the Beverly Hills Beach Club. The storyline continued for a decent part of the season with David nearly having a record deal. At the end of season 4, David got a taste of the music life again when he toured with real-life musician Babyface. In season 8, David joined the band Jasper’s Law for a short time, which introduced us to “Keep It Together”–which I absolutely loved and still do. In an episode in the tenth season, Janet reunited with college friends and played the bass at the After Dark.

On Dawson’s Creek, Joey’s vocal talents were first revealed in season one when she performs a moving rendition of “Own My Own” for a beauty pageant. In the fifth season, Joey played with a band featuring Chad Michael Murray’s Charlie. After a few gigs, he asked her to come on tour but she declined. In the next season, Audrey fronts an all-female rock band but as her drinking spirals out of control, she has no choice but to give it up. Near the end of the series, we get one more performance from her: a beautiful, understated and haunting performance of Zakk Wylde’s “Way Beyond Empty.”

One Tree Hill has had the most musical characters by far, showcasing the talents of recurring character Jake and, more notably, Haley in the first season. Haley’s music career was a big storyline in season 2, where she performed–among other things–a duet, “When The Stars Go Blue,” with Chris Keller and later toured with him and real-life band The Wreckers. Haley gave up music for a while, though we saw her perform with another real-life band, Enation, in season 6. There’s a bigger focus on Haley’s music in the first half of season 7, where Haley has released an album and toured again, performing songs that were actually created by Bethany Joy Galeotti’s band Everly. Season 5 and season 7 introduced two more musically-inclined characters, Mia and Grubbs, but they weren’t main characters.

90210 also featured musical performances very early on with Annie and Adrianna being in the school production of Spring Awakening. Earlier this season, Adrianna serenaded Navid and has since started taking music quite seriously, writing and recording songs and performing with pop sensation, Javier, who is played by real-life musician Diego Boneta. Their duet, as far as I know, doesn’t have known title, but is called “One More Time” and I absolutely love it, and Jessica Lowndes most recently performed two of her own songs.

The O.C. and Gossip Girl have both featured real-life musical artists and the GG cast even has some who are building a music career, but neither show The O.C. hasn’t had actual main characters who were performers.

As noted below by Misty and Alyssa, there are two I left out: Beverly Hills 90210’s Ray and Gossip Girl’s Rufus.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Laura in Rolling Hills, Calif.: What can you tell us about Georgina’s return to Gossip Girl?
It’s surprisingly good, and it involves Dan (Penn Badgley).

Genevieve in Denver: William isn’t going to ruin Rufus and Lily forever on Gossip Girl, is he?
Don’t let the promos fool you. Billy Baldwin‘s Will van der Woodsen is not all bad—emphasis on the word all. “What’s already going on between Rufus and Lily is what poses some interesting conflicts for everybody,” Billy tells us. “On the outside, Will wants to have his family back, and he wants to have a nuclear, biological family healthy again. That doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to destroy. He wants to have that and still respect the boundaries between Rufus and Lily.” Hah! We’ll believe it when we see it.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

“Stop calling Jenny Humphrey a homewrecker!”

It’s the recent cry of many of you Little J-loving Gossip Girl fans, who feel we’ve been treating the Upper East Side’s new queen unfairly in recent weeks, calling her the H-word and hinting that she may trying to steal Nate (Chace Crawford) away from Serena (Blake Lively).

Sorry! When I interviewed Gossip Girl bosses Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Josh joked of the H-word: “We think the word speaks for itself, Kristin.” And so, I promise to stop using it…Um, after this one last time, because now, I’m hearing there is very good cause, and it has to do with those rumors that a certain Gossip Girl star is leaving the show.

Marissa in Boise, Idaho: You’ve gotta stop it with the “Jenny is a homewrecker” stuff.
So sorry, but as I hinted above, Jenny is indeed about to meddle, and I’m not referring to Nate and Serena. I’m actually talking about her dad, Rufus, and stepmom, Lily. I’m hearing that Little J is going to try to do some bad things to their relationship, and then…yes, she’s going away. But the good news for you Jenny fans (finally!) is that contrary to some rumors you may have heard, she is not dying. I’m told Taylor Momsen will be back in season four. At least, that’s the plan.

Shannon G.: We last saw Jasper in the hospital before being admitted into psychiatric treatment. Is this the last we will see of him on 90210, or is there a chance he could pop back into the picture at some time?
Poor Annie’s not in the clear just yet! Jasper will most definitely be back and causing more woes along the way. In fact, he’s a huge part of that out-of-this-world finale we’ve been telling you so much about. Well, he and his dead “uncle.”

Kassie in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.: What else is ahead on 90210?
Some seriously big things are coming up in Beverly Hills…I’m hearing the finale shocker has to do with Naomi’s big sexual harassment lie, and in the meantime, her evil sis Jen returns.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Matilda in Mississippi: We’re all aware that whatever Jack Bass does on tonight’s Gossip Girl is pretty huge, but can you tell us if this is it for Desmond Harrington on the show, or will he be back to mess things up again?

You never know with those tight-lipped Gossip Girl producers, but according to Desmond Harrington, when drama is needed, there he’ll be. “They bring him when they need somebody to ruin something, I guess,” he tells us. We love you, D, but here’s hoping we never see your trouble-bringin’ face about the Upper East Side again.
XOXO, Team WWK.

Rachelle in Catalina Island: It’s time to take sides: Are you on Life Unexpected‘s Team Ryan or Team Baze?
I definitely love me some Kris Polaha and, of course, have a soft spot for Kerr Smith from way back in the Dawson’s Creek day, but would you believe me if I told you the guys of Life Unexpected have convinced me to turn—Team Math?! “Team Math all the way, that’s all I’m saying,” Mister Math himself, Austin Basis, just told me. “Watch the ‘Winter Formal’ episode, and if you don’t go ‘awww,’ then there’s no hope.” Think he’s kidding? Get a load of this: “Team Math is the most valid. Team Math, start the revolution! I even made people’s T-shirts for wrap gifts.” Ummm, Austin, where’s my shirt?

Rebecca in New York: Please! Tell us what Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage said about Jenny and Nate! And thank you for the Chuck and Blair scoop, that is great to hear.
You got it. So, when I asked the Gossip Girl bosses if Jenny and Nate have moved past their platonic, brother-sister relationship, Josh told me: “I think one of them may feel that way.” Zinga! I’m guessing that’s Jenny. You? Stephanie simply gave this little tease: “We do have a really fun story coming up in this last run of episodes moving toward the finale.” Fun for who? I’m thinking not fun for Serena!

Ginny in Texas: Am I the only fan rooting for Vanessa and Rufus?! They have mad chemistry.
Ew. And yes! Josh Schwartz has this to say: “We understand there are all kinds of fans, Nate-Serena fans, Dan-Serena fans, and even Vanessa-Rufus fans, but we want everybody to know that they are talked about in the writer’s room all the time, except for the Vanessa-Rufus fans. They’re the only ones we can tell you are barking up the wrong tree.” Ha!
