Random Question

23 07 2009

On One Tree Hill, during one of the many time Peyton tried to convince Lucas to leave Lindsey, Luke said, “I’m in love with her, Peyton.”

Here’s my question: do you think he actually was?  Was Lucas truly in love with Lindsey? Did he really see himself spending the rest of his life with her?  Or was he just in denial with his feelings about Peyton?  Was he just still hurt by or mad at Peyton so he was using Lindsey? Or do you think he genuinely fell in love with someone else?

I’ve never spoken to a Lucas-Lindsey fan.  Do you know of any out there?

I think he really loved Lindsey. But I must say I think Lucas is a very idiot character. The proposal was useless and a stupidity.

And I don’t really understand why did he proposes Peyton… His mother had a tough life because of growing up too early…

Am I clear enought?

Why was the proposal useless and stupid?

I do agree that Lucas should’ve realized the difficulty in getting married too young, but his mom was even younger and there’s Naley to look at as a pro or a con.

I think Peyton was right in saying I want to marry you, just not right now. I don’t understand why Lucas didn’t understand that. But then you remember it’s a TV show and reacting the way he did made for (at least in Mark’s opinion) a better storyline for season 5.

Being married doesn’t mean to be in love and viceversa, that’s what Lucas seems not to understand.

Of course Peyton was right. I just don’t get why Lucas did it. I mean, a real person with Lucas’s past wouldn’t do that…

And I don’t think that was a better storyline, although Peyton’s fate is to suffer.

Agree, Livin. I don’t think it was a better storyline either (hard to say because we didn’t actually see the alternative), but Mark did and I guess that’s what matters. What he says, goes. And, yeah, I guess it was in-line with Peyton’s character–struggle, and then get what you want.

My theory is that Lucas did love Lindsey but that as fans we could not understand because we never got to see the best parts of their relationship. However, I believe that the reason Lucas stayed with her was a combination of denial, revenge, and an attempt to hide from getting hurt again. Lucas didn’t know that Peyton was going to come back but when she did he realized those feelings were still there and still very strong. His next step was to become closer to Lindsey in an attempt to bury his feelings for Peyton. Then when his whole relationship with Lindsey was falling apart he lashed out at Peyton. That was revenge for hurting him and the fact that he was still hurting. Of course this is just my opinion 😉 lol

Alyssa, I think you are EXACTLY right. Ever think of becoming a psychologist or something?!

Totally agree with Alyssa, also i’d like to point out that i think when Brooke was explaining to Lucas about Peyton/Julian in 6×10- you fall in love with rebounds everytime, but its not real love, your head tricks you into it to protect you from the crushing pain your heart was putting you through- she was also kind of describing Lucas’ relationship with Lindsay.

Haha my sister is on her way to a psychology degree. I guess it must run in the family.

And Izzie I never thought about Brooke’s comment in that way, but it makes complete sense because the writers always seem to create double meanings for statements like that.

That’s a great point, Izzie!
