Random Question

Sunday night I had one eye on the TV for the Primetime Emmys and one eye on TweetDeck, where I saw a number of tweets asking why Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill weren’t being recognized at the awards show.

Historically, the teen drama genre has gone unrecognized at the Emmys, except for in 1995 when Milton Berle was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his appearance as Saul on Beverly Hills 90210.

The closest the genre has come to similar-sized recognition was Beverly Hills 90210’s and Jason Priestley’s multiple Golden Globe nominations in the early and mid-90s.

There’s a lot of theories out there as to why the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – the organization responsible for the Emmys – continually chooses not to recognize the genre, but I’d like to hear your thoughts.

Why do you think the teen dramas have received just one Emmy nomination over the last 20 years?

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

What you already know: Leighton Meester is going to look stunning in some fabulous new threads in the upcoming season of the CW’s still-addictive Gossip Girl. (How dreamy is that dress above?!)

What you don’t know: What she’ll be doing without those clothes in an upcoming steamy encounter. And I have the exclusive scoop!

Frederick: Gossip Girl. Give it up! Is there any hope for Chuck and Blair? I’m getting really depressed with what I’ve seen for the new season.
I know you Chair fans have been in a funk since May, when Chuck the Basshole did you know what with you know who (for shame!), but I finally have a ray of hope to offer…I can tell you exclusively that Chuck and Blair will have, um, relations, of the bom-chicka-bow-wow kind during the upcoming season. At least, that’s what my sources are saying. Whether they will actually get back together, well…that I cannot say, sorry. But still, that’s a pretty major reason to keep tuning in, right?

Leslie in Carmel, Ind.: Gossip Girl…What can you tell us?
Penn Badgley can sum up the return of your favorite Upper East-Siders: “There’s a baby on the way, which I think everybody already knows anyway. We’re in Paris for a bit. There’s a gunshot wound and there’s another marriage.” Then he laughs. “I think. It’s hard to keep track of the weddings, because they’re all broken up anyway!” So, business as usual then? Indeed. “It’s the same kind of sensational stuff you’ve come to expect, and the change of locale makes it even more gorgeous. More of the same but in an even more heightened capacity,” Penn promises. Hang in there, GG fans. It’s almost time for the season premiere.

  • Jane Lynch (Mrs. Witter, Dawson’s Creek) beat Julie Bowen (Aunt Gwen, Dawson’s Creek) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in the Primetime Emmys last night, but Bowen’s show Modern Family won Outstanding Comedy. Lynch lost for Outstanding Guest Star In A Comedy.

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl and More

27 08 2010
  • The Real One Tree Hill Twitter account tweeted a very brief video with Austin Nichols (Julian, One Tree Hill).
  • Like Nichols did for his character, Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) has started a Twitter account for hers, under the name @BDavis_Baker.
  • TVGuide.com has a brief video interview with Joe Manganiello (Owen, One Tree Hill).
  • Shenae Grimes (Annie, 90210) tweeted she has a cameo in Scream 4, which also features Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) and Kristen Bell (Gossip Girl, Gossip Girl), and an article in the new issue of Nylon, the one that features Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, Gossip Girl) on the cover.
  • ABC has ordered a pilot from Fake Empire, which is run by Josh Schwartz (executive producer, Gossip Girl; The O.C.) and Stephanie Savage (executive producer, Gossip Girl; The O.C.). The show, which Schwartz and Savage will produce, sounds awfully like the failed CW pilot Body Politic, which starred Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210).
  • Gossip Cop busted a fabricated Perez Hilton story about Rachel Bilson (Summer, The O.C.) supposedly dating Jake Gyllenhaal.
  • Jackson Rathbone (Justin, The O.C.) has been cast in No Ordinary Family, which stars Autumn Reeser (Taylor, The O.C.) and is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (writer-producer, Dawson’s Creek).
  • Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek) won Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy in EW.com’s EWwy Awards.
  • The Star has an interview with Nina Repeta (Bessie, Dawson’s Creek).

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl and More

26 08 2010
  • The Real One Tree Hill Twitter account tweeted a very brief video with Lee Norris (Mouth, One Tree Hill).
  • Examiner.com has an interview with Amanda Schull (Sara/Katie, One Tree Hill). She made some interesting comments when discussing a possible return to OTH.
  • A pretty big picture of Joe Manganiello (Owen, One Tree Hill) is on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. That’s a huge achievement. Congrats to Joe!
  • Jana Kramer (Alex, One Tree Hill) has officially filed for divorce. She and Johnathon Schaech split a few weeks ago.
  • Takers, which briefly features Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210), stars Chris Brown (Will, The O.C.), and also happens to star Schaech and Rachel Bilson’s (Summer, The O.C.) ex Hayden Christensen, opens in theaters tomorrow.
  • 90210 and Dawson’s Creek are included in The Daily Beast’s look at “racy TV show scenes.” It’s sad, though, how respectable DC’s is and how much 90210’s isn’t. That can be applied to the series as a whole, too, in my opinion.
  • Kristin has an “exclusive sneak peek” at 90210’s new season. Looks like some new characters we haven’t heard about may be introduced.
  • Earlier this month CBS announced a new channel in India, which would air 90210, and now it’s been announced a new channel will also air the show in Australia.

Spoiler: Ask Ausiello

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: Some Gossip Girl scoop regarding Rufus and Lily, please. They’re my favorite couple, and we’ve heard nothing about them. —Sly
Ausiello:
A certain rat Bass-tard is going to come between them early in the season—relax, I’m not talking romantically. While Lily is more than willing to forgive Chuck for what happened with Jenny, Rufus is having a harder time moving past it. And just when he finally starts to come around, Eric lets him in on a little secret (hint: It pertains to an ugly incident from the pilot). Cue World War III.

Question: I fell in love with Dan and Vanessa last season on Gossip Girl. Needless to say, Dan’s out-of-nowhere “signs” about Serena in the finale threw me for a loop. Please say Dan and Vanessa aren’t over for good as a couple. —Sarah
Ausiello:
I’m guessing it’s not over, since they move in together in episode 3!
