At various points I’ve explained my teen drama background/origins.
Here are the cliffnotes: started watching Beverly Hills 90210 at the way-too-young age of 9, which led me to the teen dramas that followed suit, and I haven’t been able to kick the habit since.
But what about you?
What’s your story?
When did you start watching teen dramas?
Actually, I also began watching teen dramas when I was young. I began watching the end of Dawsons Creek when I was 12. I also began watching One Tree Hill. But, One Tree Hill actually taught me a lot and I learned from different things happening in the characters’ lives.. Now, I go back and watch the episodes from earlier seasons, and I obviously understand it all a little better, haha. Anyways, I have been hooked on drama filled teen shows ever since. 🙂
When I was 14-15 (2007). I first watched the last four eps of OTH Season 4 with my siblings and I liked it, so I started watching the hole series. The other series, 90210 and GG, I sarted watching them becouse of a friend who recommend them to me. Everything else, like Beverly Hills 90210, Dawson’s Creek, and The O.C., is too old for me so I never got interested or didn’t even heard about them…
Ooh when to start, um i guess when I was 9 I started to watch a bit of Dawsons Creek in 2003 but then it ended so i quickly moved to One Tree Hill and The O.C, where i got completely hooked on teen dramas. From there on i haven’t been able to stay away from any teen drama on tv; now 90210, Gossip Girl, and other programs like Greek and Privileged fill my tv schedule as well as the staple classics like OTH and The O.C.
I started watching Gilmore Girls when I was 11 and totally wanted to be Rory. That was when I first got a crush on CMM and wished that my Mom was more like Lorelai (though I now think she’s probably better than Lorelai).
After that it was Dawson’s Creek, The O.C., OTH, The Hills, 90210, and of course Gossip Girl, which is my current favorite. I’m not sure why, but I just never got hooked on Privileged, though it’s a good show.
Dana: I completely identify with learning life lessons from 90210. It’s where I saw many, um, things for the first time and learned how to handle certain situations. Like you, of course I didn’t understand everything completely at the time. But it was a big stepping stone for many things I believed (some wrong–like the way people at 18 actually look, that everyone’s prom was like a fairytale, etc.). I was even quoted about this in an article by a famous TV journalist when 90210 went off the air.
Livin52: I highly recommend you check out 90210, Dawson’s Creek and The O.C. If you like the current shows, you’ll like those, too! And I definitely think it’s important to know the history of the genre–where it started, what it was like and the origins of so many things you see on the current shows.
Izzie: Never watched Greek or Privileged. I don’t necessarily group them as teen dramas.
Erin: I wanted to be Rory, too! And have Lorelei as a mom! I’m actually in a Facebook group about it. But, again, I don’t necessarily count that as a teen drama. In fact, if it’s not covered on TDW, it’s not a teen drama IMO.
I used to always watch 90210 as a kid wih my mom…..so i guess theres a start but….i loved dawsons creek i started watching the2nd season i was probs like 10….then when it was repeated on TBS i got back into…then i started watching OTH during its 4th season….so i decided to catch up…during christmas break i watched all 4 seasons in less than 6 days. I loved it and connected with everything in it…..that lead me to GG and 90210 just cause of the CW….then my 1st yr in college i watched ALOT of soapnet and caught my self up on the old 90210 and then i slowly got into the OC…now i am completely obsessed with teen dramas….
Erica: I, too, watched 90210 with my mom for a while, particularly season six. A little awkward, not gonna lie.
It started with One Tree Hill, Ive been watching it since the very first episode my freshman year of High school! and Ive been hoocked! I’ve also never watched 90210 (the new or old), the O.C (OTH was way better to spend my time watching), or dawson’s creek! I also like some of the new ones like Greek, Make it or Break it. And of course im hooked to other drama shows like Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, Gossip Girl, Greek, Make it or Break it and i have all 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls!
I love drama!
Gloriana: Have to echo what I said above to Livin and Erin. You have to watch the old 90210, The O.C. and Dawson’s Creek! You’re missing out on some great teen drama stuff. I don’t watch Greek, Make it or Break It, Grey’s or Private Practice. The first two (plus Gilmore) I don’t really consider teen dramas, and in regards to the latter two, I’m more of a Prison Break kind of girl. *But* if I did start watching them, I know I’d be hooked.
For me i started watching the oc when it began to air on muchmusic. I began watcing the oc religiously and quickly got hooked on it. Once i had finished the complete oc series, gossip girl debuted that fall, as with season 5 of one tree hill. Once again, i was hooked. To clear things up and understand oth better I went back and watched the first four sesons and definetly fell in love with the show even more. Today I watch the teen dramas on air and just recently watched season one of dawsons creek (when the complete series dvd comes out I’m planning to watch the rest) As for the original 90210 I’ve only watched one episode, two at the most. I’d really like to watch the whole series but can’t seem to get into it.
So, after ALL that i guess i can thank the oc for getting me started and hooked on teen dramas.
