With One Tree Hill coming back from hiatus tomorrow night (expect a live-blog!), I thought it would be a good time to “check in.”
Back in May, after 6.24 aired and we all knew Chad Michael Murray (Lucas) and Hilarie Burton (Peyton) weren’t going to be in season 7, I wrote a little rant. I vented my disappointment that the show hadn’t ended with 6.24 and shared my hope that I would fall in love with what I called the “2.0 version” of the show.
In case I haven’t made it abundantly clear already, there’s been no falling in love thus far. With the exception of one episode (7.07, I And Love And You), I’ve found the season to be rather mediocre, with holes that go well beyond Leyton’s absence.
But I want to know what you think, especially now that we’re halfway through the season.
Is this One Tree Hill 2.0 to you? Are you adjusting to life without Leyton and with Clay, Quinn and Alex (et. al.) better than you had expected? Do you wish the show ended with 6.24? Should this season have been a spin-off?
Please note that my love for the show largely remains unchanged. I would never abandon it. I even feel like I’m being unfair judging this season at the midway point rather than waiting til all the episodes have aired.
But I will most certainly reassess in May and, again, I thought it would be nice to at least “check in” with you guys in the meantime.
As a huge fan since the first season, I think that the show has a different feeling to it. It’s not necessarily good or bad, just when I think of the first season (which I just rewatched a couple of weeks ago) I just think that there’s a different spark to it. I really miss Leyton, and I thought that they brought most of the feeling to it. I guess I kind of compare it to when Marissa was killed off of the OC, it was different. I still think the show is good, and like you said, it’s slightly unfair judging it from mid-season. I still think it’s an excellent show, I just miss the five of them all together. Oh, and just to put it out there, I really wish they’d have Chris Keller pop back in 😀
well as you know (because you insisted i watch the show) I became a HUGE fan of One Tree Hill straight away. With me i never want any of my shows to end so i can’t really say im not happy that it didn’t end at 6.24 but I do think that 6.24 did feel like an ending (a GOOD ending) for the series. so i don’t know I’m on the fence.
So far I have been loving this season. As much as I LOVED Season 6 and thought that 6×24 was a good finale, I would never give up season 7. Clay and Quinn feel like a breath of fresh air and it is nice to have more people on Nathan and Haley’s side, especially Haley’s. I also enjoy the more ensemble feel of the show and that not one couple is getting all the screen time or hogging the stories. I also am on the side of not missing Lucas and Peyton. I only miss Lucas with in regards to his relationship to Nathan as a brother and a best friend to Haley, but I feel like Clay and Quinn are doing a pretty good job of filling that relationship void. I also am really enjoying the relationship between Quinn and Haley, it feels like a real sister relationship and I think Mark is doing a great job of writing that. So all in all, I really am liking this season and can’t wait for more.
I totally agree to sabrinaisonline. I love OTH and I don’t want it to ever end. 😦 Yea, sometimes I miss Leyton but it would be worse if Naley would be gone.
i agree with sabrinaisonline. i never want my shows to end but 624 did have a very series finale feel to it and if it had ended it would have been a good ending. i thought it was weird that it felt like a series finale because as far as i knew it wasnt over.. but about this season. i never really liked leyton and i was okay with them leaving. it is a little weird without them but all in all its still a good show to me with a few ups and downs.
I wish it ended with 624. It feels like a whole new show. I just don’t like the storylines/new characters this season and I really miss Lucas and Peyton. I liked the Sara/Clay storyline though. It was heartbreaking and they had amazing chemistry. I’m excited to see Taylor again, I hope the show will be less boring with her.
I’m loving the new Season. Cannot get enough of it. I will admit that at first, I was totally against a seventh Season, and when 6.24 first aired, I wanted it to end. But I am not the biggest Chad & Hilarie fans. I never was, and since they left the show in the manner they did, I really am not fans anymore, so them leaving the show in the end wasn’t a negative thing for me. I don’t miss them, and I don’t notice they are even gone.
I think it’s unfair how people are hating on the new characters. I don’t think people are giving them a chance – they just see them as Chad & Hilarie’s ‘replacements’, which they aren’t.
I’m one of the few people who really is enjoying Season 7. My third favourite Season so far, but I do think in a few episodes time, I may go off the Season slightly.
I have to say I actually am in love with season 7 so far. Surprisingly so I have to say. I orig also thought that maybe season six should have ended it even though I don’t ever want to see the show go. But even without leyton season 7 is amazing. I love that we get to see different sides of these characters…especially more into haleys story which i feel sometimes was overlooked in previous seasons. I can’t wait to see what comes next and definatley am hoping for a season 8!!!
I don’t think I like/dislike the show anymore now in Season 7 than I did in previous seasons. I still like most of the characters and even love a few. I’ve always had an intense dislike for Peyton, because I feel like it was shoved down my throat that she was the one I was supposed to love/root for and now they have replaced that intense dislike by trying to shove Quinn down my throat. I do, however, feel that I would have liked the character more if maybe there was a different actress in the role. Other than Quinn, I pretty much like this season.
I actually like this season. There are some parts/characters that I wish could be different but, all in all, I’ve liked it so far.
