News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and Dawson’s Creek

15 09 2009
  • The Daily News has a photo gallery called “TV Shows That Peaked in High School” and our teen dramas have the (dis)honor of being in it.  One Tree Hill is given credit for skipping the college years, “which may be why this former teen drama is still on the air today.”
  • There’s tons of teen drama content in the new issue of Portrait Magazine.
  • One Tree Hill (2.59 million) did better than Gossip Girl (2.52 million) last night, but not by as much as they usually do.  This was GG’s best ratings since January.
  • Have any of you been to SoapNet’s board for One Tree Hill? Just curious since I’m not really liking it and wondering if anyone feels the same.
  • Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) and SoGoPro did an interview with Say It Social Radio.
  • PEOPLE.com has a Gossip Girl-version of Hangman.
  • They also have a GG fashion quiz.
  • Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl) was named one of the “25 hottest actors under 25.”
  • Brandon (Jason Priestley, Beverly Hills 90210) was recently a “weekly crush” on SoapNet.
  • Glamour has a great interview with Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) on Donna’s fashion.
  • The Los Angeles Times has an interview with Matt Lanter (Liam, 90210).  He says he has an official MySpace but confirms that all Twitter accounts are fakes.
  • TVStar has an interview with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210).
  • LoHud.com has an interview with John Schneider (Jeffrey, Liam’s stepdad, 90210).
  • I like this recent tweet from James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek): “I thought I was immune to soapy drama after making it for 6 years, but I’m finding myself kind of addicted to “‘True Blood.'”
  • Michelle Williams (Jen) is on the cover of the October issue of Vogue.  You can read an excerpt of the cover story here.

I just read through that list of “TV Shows that Peaked in High School” and I was going to give you the link, but of course you already found it lol. I think they need to do a little more research on some of those shows. Especially concerning The O.C., I doubt the author ever watched an episode.

I’m not sure I agree with BH: 90210 being on the list. All of them ending up at the same college is questionable, but I think the college years were some of the best seasons.

Alyssa: Glad we’re on the same wavelength! Feel free to send me anything anytime. I imagine you’re right about the author. And sadly it’s true for a lot of the stories we read. It’s quite frustrating and insulting.

Brandon: I think it’s on the list because, as you mentioned, it was questionable that they all ended up at the same school and because a lot of people felt the like the show was unnecessarily going on “forever.” But the show does get credit for being the first to not only tackle the college transition but to also survive (then again, it also gets credit for being the first to tackles teens in primetime in the first place) It’s hard to choose a favorite season or group of years for me since there’s so many–3 high school years, 4 college years, and 3 post-grad years. I do have chunks of episodes (or rather, storylines, I guess) from each that I prefer, usually relating to a favorite couple.

I think Mark did one tree hill a favor by not doing college years. college years are so much like highschool years. its nice to see the characters with adult issues. i do think that this list is a joke though, i mean you cant stay in high school forever. as for one tree hill now in season 7, i actually enjoyed the show. i didnt think i was with lucas and peyton gone, but i like the new characters, and next week with nathan and that “fan” girl….cant wait.

as for gossip girl, i gave it a chance on monday thinking that it would be better, but its same old stuff.

Who ever wrote this needs to get their facts right.

Summer did not “ditch her Ivy League acceptance for U.C. Berkeley”

Michelle: Mark certainly took an innovative approach, that’s for sure. But by skipping the college years, we did miss out on Jamie’s early years and those I would’ve liked to see. But all the flashbacks were done very well. Regarding season 7, I didn’t like the premiere but I didn’t dislike it either. I can’t decide if I like the new characters yet and won’t really for a while. We’ve barely seen them, much less gotten to know them. And there’s still more to be introduced. I’m intrigued by the Nathan storyline but also frustrated that Naley is going through the infidelity issue for the third time.

Izzie: You’re right. Summer did in fact attend Brown. As I told Alyssa above, mistakes like that are frustrating.

I didn’t hate the premiere either but I definitely think that the writers are afraid to have good juicy storylines so as to not mess with the perfect couples or the characters. I’m not saying I want another infidelity storyline with Naley but I can’t stomach all the “cutesy” stuff either. It’s not worth watching if they keep this going.

Alyssa: Your assessment about the writers is correct. Mark’s even said that he feels damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, so to speak. People are unhappy when Naley are stable and have nothing going on, and they are unhappy when something threatens that stability. It’s something I foresee Gossip Girl struggling with this season with Chuck and Blair, if the premiere was any indication.

well as for me i am a huge naley fan, but i love when they have drama. i like when they are lovey-dovey too, but couples arent like that all the time. they have to have some drama in their lives, but i do agree that mark is damned if he does, and damned if he doesnt. he cant make everyone happy.

OT-i just saw the second promo for next week, and they brought back tim matheson as julian’s dad. i dont think he is to happy with brooke and julian. i love tim matheson he is such a great actor, i hope he sticks around.

I definitely want to know more about Julian’s past. The flashbacks with Peyton gave us a peek, as did his dad’s appearance last year, but I’d like to know more.

teendramawhore-i did like the new character of oth. clayton has a mystery around him. i want to know who he sent flowers to, and why he doesnt believe in love. as for quinn, she was ok. i love her and haley’s relationship, but i dont see her reason for leaving her husband good enough. i want to know if there is something deeper going on there.

so as for quinn, i would say it is going to take me awhile with her, as for clayton, no i love him already. plus, robert buckley is a dream boat 🙂

I mostly agree with your thoughts on Quinn and Clay. I am intrigued by Clay’s mysteriousness, too. (Although spoilers have already revealed part of the answers to your questions!) I can’t say yet whether I like him or will like him. Not sure where they are truly going with Quinn. I really liked her interactions with Jamie. Again, can’t say I like her or dislike her. Will have to see. And there’s another newbie introduced next week–Jana Kramer’s Alex(is).

^^yeah i saw a clip with her in it. she seems really sweet when she is out in public, but i have a feeling that she is anything but.

as for spoilers… i try really hard to stay away from them, sometimes i can do it…other times not so much. i havent read any about clay, so im going to try to keep myself from hunting them down.
