WEDNESDAY: Beverly Hills 90210
THURSDAY: Dawson’s Creek
FRIDAY: The O.C.
TODAY: One Tree Hill
Problem: One Tree Hill doesn’t abide by the real-world calendar. When it’s February for us, it’s not February for them. As such, they’ve never had a Valentine’s Day episode or even a strictly love-focused episode around that time of year.
If you’re wondering what episodes, then, SoapNet plans on showing during their Beverly Hills 90210/One Tree Hill Valentine’s Day marathon on Sunday, it’ll be the last two episodes of season 3 (3.21, Over The Hills and Far Away and 3.22, The Show Must Go On). The first focuses around Naley’s “rehearsal dinner” and the latter is their wedding. Sure, there’s some great romance in each–and I do love those episodes–but there’s great romance in plenty of episodes. That doesn’t mean they qualify for a Valentine’s Day marathon. So you have to wonder (or at least I do) what a show with no Valentine’s Day mentions is doing in a V-Day marathon! It’s awfully strange, considering they could’ve gone with The O.C., since it has 3 4 V-Day episodes to choose from (though not all of them are high-quality, as I discussed yesterday).
And so we continue and finish tomorrow with Gossip Girl and 90210.
You’re right Shari, OTH does not abide by the real world calendar and we’ve never seen them celebrate any holidays on the show. The closest we ever got was when they were playing “It’s a Wonderful Life” in the hospital when Lucas had his heart attack and Keith’s “ghost” appeared. And that doesn’t even jive because as far as I know, most high school basketball state championships are held in March, so that wouldn’t have even been around Christmas time anyway. They just threw that movie in there to go along with Lucas’ journey with Keith.
I did catch those episodes this morning and I love those two as well. I would say that Nathan and Haley’s wedding is as romantic as they come, but I get what you are saying in that there are other romantic episodes to choose from and none of them were ever about Valentine’s Day.
My only guess as to why they didn’t use another show such as The OC, is that it looked as if they just went with showing the BIB episodes in their normal Sunday time slots.
Vicki, thank you for your comment! I actually included the OTH “It’s A Wonderful Life” episode in my Favorite Holiday Episodes series. You can check it out here: https://teendramawhore.com/2009/12/24/favorite-holiday-episodes-pt-4/ You are definitely right about the basketball championships not lining up, though. It was almost like a gift that we got a semi-Christmas episode around Chistmastime in real life but it doesn’t work with their “Tree Hill world” continuity.
Yes, SoapNet did follow the normal BIB timeslots. But it turns out they did include The O.C. by showing one of their V-Day episodes during their normal 6am slot. I’m not sure, though, why they didn’t promote the show as being included.
Thanks for the link Shari, and I enjoyed your comments as well as the videos. S4 has always been my favorite, but I didn’t watch the show in real time, so I never saw that promo before and I loved it! Watching the vidoes reminds me of how much I miss Lucas’ voiceovers as they were always a favorite part of the episodes for me. Not that I didn’t like the occasional voiceovers by the others, but his were just so awesome, IMO!
I’m not usually up at 6 a.m. on a Sunday, and I don’t watch The O.C. regularly so I wasn’t sure if they were included in the Vday marathon, but I just figured they had their usual episode in their time slot. I also didn’t notice that they weren’t included in the promo, so thanks for letting me know. Sometimes I wonder about some of the things that SN does with their marathons, and I guess this is one of those times, lol!!
