Site of the Week

One resource in particular was invaluable to me last week as I worked on the Most Quote-Worthy Characters series.

Wikiquote

Wikiquote is part of the Wikimedia family, which is also responsible for Wikipedia, Wiktionary, etc.

Wikiquote takes Wikipedia’s general purpose of providing information and narrows it down to simply providing quotes.

They have some of the best collections of Dawson’s Creek, The O.C. and One Tree Hill quotes I’ve seen.

Unfortunately, the Gossip Girl and 90210 (old and new) sections are lacking.

But if you have a lot of time and want to relive some memorable lines, or if you’re looking for something in particular, Wikiquote is great place to start your search.

““The kids’ lives on Dawson’s Creek were intense; it was tears and sadness and gnashing of teeth. I spent six years in a state of high angst.”

Most Quote-Worthy Characters Pt. 3

4 03 2009

Part One, Part Two

Character: Joey Potter (Dawson’s Creek)

Style: Overly-analytical, cynical, philosophical

Examples: “I just think our emerging hormones are destined to alter our relationship and I’m trying to limit the fallout” (Pilot, Episode 1.1)

“I’m so tired of dancing around these big words… I just want to be honest with you… more that anything I want to be honest with you. But, do you think we’re ready for that honesty? Because honesty is a big word and it changes things, and it complicates things. Are you sure you’re ready for everything that goes along with telling the truth?” (Decisions, 1.13)

“Well, Principal Green said the mural should focus on what unifies us as a school. And if you think about it, nothing really unifies us. Even our mascot is divisive. The Minute Man – right there you’ve alienated half the student population. So, the only thing that I could think of that unites us all, that we all have in common, is that… well it’s that we all start off in kindergarten thinking that we can be anything that we want to be, and by the time we get here, we… we’ve somehow lost that feeling. We’ve all started to believe whatever our parents or friends have told us about what we can achieve and who we can be in life, and… and we’ve forgotten about that possibility we had when we were younger. And that’s what I think we all have in common, and that’s what the symbol on my painting means – possibility. I painted it because I thought we could all use a daily reminder that, if you believe in yourself, even when the odds seem stacked against you, anything’s possible.” (Crime and Punishment, 3.15)

“I stand here before you aware of the similarities that we share. I know that you’re feeling, outside of my incredible stage fright, the same things that I’m feeling– pride and accomplishment, closure and regret, and a hopeful outlook on the future. But I don’t think you need me to elaborate on those feelings. Instead I–I wanted to share something personal and tell you that… that people in my life who are gone now, people I miss very much and people who I am haunted by in different ways, but whether we’re separated by death or merely distance, I know that they’re still with me because I keep them in my heart. The truth is, in time, that’s all that we’re going to be to each other anyway, this population of memories, some wonderful and endearing, some less so. But taken together, those memories help make us who we are and who we will be. So whether you’re here with each other now or you’re merely in each other’s thoughts, remember each other on that road ahead. And I hope that no matter where your travels lead you in this life… you’ll always take Capeside with you.” (The Graduate, 4.22)

“I’m the worst kind of person because I suck these boys into my web, and then I make them give up their dreams until they’re left sad and dreamless and living in Boston.” (Separate Ways [Worlds Apart], 5.20)

“And now that this scared little girl no longer follows me wherever I go, I miss her. I do. ‘Cause there are things I wanna tell her… to relax, to lighten up, that it is all going to be ok. I want her to know that meeting people who like you, who understand you, who actually accept you for who you are, will become an increasingly rare occurrence. Jen, Jack, Audrey, Andie, Pacey, and Dawson. These people who contributed to who I am, they are with me wherever I go, and as history gets rewritten in small ways with each passing day, my love for them only grows. Because the truth is… it was the best of times. Mistakes were made, hearts were broken, harsh lessons learned, but all of that has receded into fond memory now. How does it happen? Why are we so quick to forget the bad and romanticize the good? Maybe it’s because we need to believe that the time we spent together actually meant something, that we were there for each other in a time in our lives that defined us all, a time in our lives that we will never forget. I can’t swear this is exactly how it happened. But this is how it felt.” (Joey Potter and the Capeside Redemption, 6.22)

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and More

4 03 2009
  • OneTreeHillBlog.com has info on how you can get your own Ravens uniform.
  • In the March 9, 2009 issue of PEOPLE, Taylor Momsen (Jenny, Gossip Girl) says she’s reading A Time for Dancing by Davida Wills Hurwin.
  • To see a super-young (and super-cute!) Peter Gallagher (Sandy, The O.C.), you should rent The Idolmaker.  Saw part of it yesterday and it made me swoon!
  • Autumn Reeser (Taylor, The O.C.) will have a recurring role on Entourage next season.
  • There’s information about the new Ben McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) show airing in Canada.  Not sure if the same applies for U.S. airings.
  • Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) said he “was never a Beverly Hills, 90210 kind of guy” but he did enjoy his time on DC because “I know people loved the show and so I was happily a part of it.”

YouTube Video of the Week

1 03 2009

There can never be too much teen drama in our lives.  So if you’re looking for more, let me present to you my latest discovery: Barton Heights.

Barton Heights is a teen drama parody series made for the web by one very talented guy named Anthony Laatsch.  He casts, writes and directs everything all on his own, taking ideas from our favorite shows like One Tree Hill and The O.C.  His mini episodes include all the cliches and criticisms of teen dramas–on purpose.

While the camerawork is a little shaky and the acting amateur, the creativeness and effort to make this standout are all there.

See for yourself!

Top 10 Saddest Moments: #2 and #1

27 02 2009

Top 10 Saddest Moments: #10 and #9, #8 and #7, #6 and #5, #4 and #3

2. Jen dies after complications from a heart condition (Dawson’s Creek, Episode 6.24: …Must Come to an End)

MY NUMBER ONE SADDEST TEEN DRAMA MOMENT

…is actually an entire episode.

1. The school shooting (One Tree Hill, Episode 3.16: With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept)

This is easily the most moving, poignant and meaningful episode of any teen drama.  It is also the most tragic. This clip doesn’t even begin to do it justice.  I urge you to watch the entire episode as soon as possible.

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and More

27 02 2009
  • Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair (such a moutful!) signed a two-year contract to be the creative head behind 90210.  Guess they’re not only planning on a season two, but a third one as well!
  • Sinclair told Entertainment Weekly she’s open to having Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) come on the show but she doesn’t want it to look like a “stunt.”
  • Star Magazine is reporting that Brittany Snow (American Dreams) has been cast to play Lily in the Gossip Girl spin-off.  Star, however, is a tabloid that most often gets things wrongs.  So until I see confirmation elsewhere, there is no way I am going to believe it.  Coincidentally, Snow is who Michael Ausiello said should get the part.
  • According to their official site, No Doubt will appear on the May 11th episode of Gossip Girl.  This marks their second appearance on a teen drama, the first being Dawson’s Creek.
  • BuddyTV asks some really interesting questions about the next episode of One Tree Hill (which doesn’t air til mid-March).
  • One of the local news stations in North Carolina says One Tree Hill’s seventh season renewal is good for Wilmington’s economy.
  • Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek) will likely be cast in a new Courteney Cox show called Cougar Town.
