News Roundup: 90210, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and More

2 03 2009
  • Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) has a new job: art director of a monthly magazine.  In her many interviews we’ve never seen her express an interest like this before but good for her!
  • E!Online has a short article speculating on the future of Adrianna’s (Jessica Lowndes, 90210) baby.
  • Ever wonder how the basketball scenes on One Tree Hill look so professional?  This video explains how they’re made.
  • Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) is the HD Hottie of the Day on TVPredictions.com.
  • Dawn Ostroff, head of The CW, credits last year’s scandalous Gossip Girl ad campaign with giving the network a much-needed spotlight.
  • TV Week has a great article assessing the past, present and future of The CW and  the roles that 90210, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl play.
  • According to Zap2it, Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.) is auditioning for a role on the Melrose Place remake.

Top 5 Most Quote-Worthy Characters

2 03 2009

After last week’s super-serious series, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the characters who give the most memorable lines.  So, in no particular order…

Character: Seth Cohen (The O.C.)

Style: Sarcastic and self-deprecating

Examples: “Every year some big water polo player ends up peeing in one of my shoes… Nah, I’m just kidding. He pees in both of them.” (The Heights, Episode 1.9)

“My Jew-fro is frizzing out. I look like Screech”(The Goodbye Girl, 1.21)

“Congratulations. You’re a Cohen. Welcome to a life of insecurity and paralyzing self-doubt.” (The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn’t, 2.6)

“I think closure’s overrated. I’m more of a fan of open-ended, unrequited love.” (The Test, 2.13)

“We’re getting dangerously close to an After-School Special here, Ryan. It’s marijuana and I did it twice.” (The Cliffhanger, 3.14)

“Aren’t you going to invite me in? So the utility closet is the new poolhouse. Things change. It’s the Seth/Ryan time that counts.” (The Avengers, 4.1)

Site of the Week

2 03 2009

I recently re-discovered Mr. Video Productions, a great resource for Beverly Hills, 90210 fans.

Among the best features:

-A comprehensive episode guide with descriptions, cast, ratings and more

-A collection of promos that Fox aired

-A collection of advertisements that ran in TV Guide (see below for example)

One of the old-school 90210 ads that can be found on Mr Video Productions

There are also pages for Dawson’s Creek, The O.C., One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and the new 90210 but the Beverly Hills, 90210 one is the most complete.

No new episodes tonight!

YouTube Video of the Week

1 03 2009

There can never be too much teen drama in our lives.  So if you’re looking for more, let me present to you my latest discovery: Barton Heights.

Barton Heights is a teen drama parody series made for the web by one very talented guy named Anthony Laatsch.  He casts, writes and directs everything all on his own, taking ideas from our favorite shows like One Tree Hill and The O.C.  His mini episodes include all the cliches and criticisms of teen dramas–on purpose.

While the camerawork is a little shaky and the acting amateur, the creativeness and effort to make this standout are all there.

See for yourself!

Gossip Girl Spin-off Lead Cast

28 02 2009

E!Online and Entertainment Weekly are both confirming that Brittany Snow will in fact play the younger Lily on the Gossip Girl spin-off.

Okay, Star Magazine.  You were right for once.  (Us, 923902930190-You, 1)

News Roundup: 90210 and One Tree Hill

28 02 2009
  • The Hollywood Reporter has an article on Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair taking charge at 90210.
  • TMZ is reporting that Adam Gregory (Ty, 90210) is being sued by his former manager for missing wages.
  • Like the rest of us, TVGuide.com is wondering if Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) will be back next season.
  • The makers of the OTH Podcast have a set up a voicemail where you can leave messages for Burton.  You just need to call 828-398-0310 before March 1.  They also ask that you take this poll.

Top 10 Saddest Moments: #2 and #1

Top 10 Saddest Moments: #10 and #9, #8 and #7, #6 and #5, #4 and #3

2. Jen dies after complications from a heart condition (Dawson’s Creek, Episode 6.24: …Must Come to an End)

MY NUMBER ONE SADDEST TEEN DRAMA MOMENT

…is actually an entire episode.

1. The school shooting (One Tree Hill, Episode 3.16: With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept)

This is easily the most moving, poignant and meaningful episode of any teen drama.  It is also the most tragic. This clip doesn’t even begin to do it justice.  I urge you to watch the entire episode as soon as possible.

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and More

27 02 2009
  • Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair (such a moutful!) signed a two-year contract to be the creative head behind 90210.  Guess they’re not only planning on a season two, but a third one as well!
  • Sinclair told Entertainment Weekly she’s open to having Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) come on the show but she doesn’t want it to look like a “stunt.”
  • Star Magazine is reporting that Brittany Snow (American Dreams) has been cast to play Lily in the Gossip Girl spin-off.  Star, however, is a tabloid that most often gets things wrongs.  So until I see confirmation elsewhere, there is no way I am going to believe it.  Coincidentally, Snow is who Michael Ausiello said should get the part.
  • According to their official site, No Doubt will appear on the May 11th episode of Gossip Girl.  This marks their second appearance on a teen drama, the first being Dawson’s Creek.
  • BuddyTV asks some really interesting questions about the next episode of One Tree Hill (which doesn’t air til mid-March).
  • One of the local news stations in North Carolina says One Tree Hill’s seventh season renewal is good for Wilmington’s economy.
  • Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek) will likely be cast in a new Courteney Cox show called Cougar Town.

Fact or Fiction: OTH Cast Rumors Update

26 02 2009

From Watch with Kristin:

If you keep tabs on the One Tree Hill fandom, you may have heard some scary rumors over the past couple of days. Yes, the CW ordered a seventh season of the series, but if you are to believe the Internets, it would be without the presence of stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton.

Could the show really go on without them? Here’s what we’re hearing…

Rumors of the actors leaving the series have been greatly exaggerated. While it’s true that the CW ordered a new season without having signed contracts with CMM and Burton, it turns out that’s because the CW doesn’t have signed contracts (yet) with any of the OTH talent.

Now, it’s certainly possible that CMM and Burton could leave (there’s no definite news either way), but overall, you can rest your pretty little heads about this issue, as we’ve been told by a reliable insider, “Obviously, most if not all [of the castmembers] are coming back.”

*Update*

Video is up at SGP blog

So, this is developing news.  I’m seeing links and reading here and at FF about a video that was posted of Hilarie on her SGP blog that has since been taken down.  From descriptions, it was clear she was not coming back to Season 7.  Fans describe what she says:

She talks about how she want people to know how much she loves OTH, the crew and Peyton Sawyer and how she wish she had creative control of the show. She also doesnt want anyone to think that she abandoning a show that has been good to her. She stills wants us to watch the show and support it. She did say had a good run. She didnt flat out say she was leaving, but it was kinda obvious she is. Leytonunit220@FF

We love you, Hilarie!!!

Edited: Don’t forget you can leave Hilarie messages at 828-398-0310 or denise.gideon1 on skype
