RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Brynn in New York City: After that 90210 finale, I need a reason to keep watching. Got anything for me?
When we return to West Beverly, Annie and Liam will be fighting those lovey-dovey feelings they’ve pretty much always had for each other. Liam’s over Naomi and all that drama-rama, but Annie’s determined to keep a clean conscience and steer clear of whatever happened between the two this summer. I’m guessing hot hookup. You?

Billie in Calif.: Anything on Gossip Girl today?
Former Melrose Place vixen Katie Cassidy is headed way across the country for her next CW gig,  joining the cast of Gossip Girl. And yes, it’s true tubers, she is taking the role Chace Crawford promised to someone very important, ahem, me! Yessir, Katie will be Nate’s new Columbia co-ed galpal. And per usual with G.G. and K.C., she’s got a lil’ sumpin’ sumpin’ up her sleeve that will wreak a little havoc on the gang. Step aside, Georgina!

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and Dawson’s Creek

26 06 2010
  • In reply to a question asked by a fan, Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) tweeted “Season 8 is our final year…” but later clarified with “This is the last season anyone is contracted for. I don’t mean to break any ♥s, I just want to be honest with you guys. I guess we’ll see!”
  • Katie Cassidy, of The CW’s Melrose Place, has been cast in a recurring role on Gossip Girl. She’s currently filming the movie Monte Carlo with Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl).
  • PopEater has an interesting article that asks why Miley Cyrus gets so much criticism when Taylor Momsen (Jenny, Gossip Girl), who is younger and arguably more outlandish, doesn’t.
  • The Vans Warped Tour, featuring Momsen’s band The Pretty Reckless, started last night.
  • SoapNet will air a July 4th marathon of The O.C. called Oh Say Can You O.C. from 3-7pm. I’ll post a reminder that morning.
  • Just found out James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) has an official page on Facebook.

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and The O.C.

18 05 2010
  • In case you missed it earlier, The CW renewed One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected. They also picked up Nikita and Hellcats, and canceled Melrose Place.
  • Broadcasting & Cable has a short but interesting piece looking at the state of The CW network.
  • According to Star News, 13 episodes of One Tree Hill have been ordered. Haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere else.
  • Last night’s One Tree Hill (2 million viewers) dropped slightly and Gossip Girl (2 million viewers rounded up) rose a bit in the ratings compared to last week.
  • I have mixed thoughts on The TV Addict’s “open letter” to Mark Schwahn (creator, One Tree Hill). Most of it is irrelevant now, since OTH was renewed.
  • Korbi has an article speculating on whether Clay (Robert Buckley, One Tree Hill) and Quinn (Shantel Van Santen, One Tree Hill) survive the finale’s shooting…which to my knowledge, they do. And it’s not a true spoiler. I mean, I’m pretty positive the actors have contracts for season 8…
  • Now that season 8 is a go, Christy-Anne will be hosting another fan reunion, this time in the summer.
  • Buckley shared some of his favorite scenes in an interview with MTV.
  • TVGuide.com has a look at some of “One Tree Hill’s Craziest Moments.”
  • Miami Medical, featuring Elisabeth Harnois (Shelly, One Tree Hill) was canceled.
  • E! Online has an interesting interview with Josh Schwartz (executive producer, Gossip Girl) and Stephanie Savage (executive producer, Gossip Girl) about last night’s finale.
  • Just read an interesting article on the effect of Bing’s product placement on Gossip Girl.
  • Gossip Cop busted a rumor about Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl) bumping Kristen Stewart from the June cover of Vogue.
  • The Los Angeles Times has an awesome interview with Shenae Grimes (Annie, 90210), and they link to my Zachary Ray Sherman (Jasper) interview! Warning, though: both interviews have spoilers if you haven’t watched tonight’s ep yet.
  • The CW Source has a very short video interview with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210). I didn’t watch it but it’s likely spoilish if you haven’t seen tonight’s ep.
  • Gossip Cop has an article on the reconciliation between Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) and mom Candy Spelling.
  • Emma Caulfield (Susan, Beverly Hills 90210) is getting divorced.
  • Olivia Wilde (Alex, The O.C.) will be missing an unspecified number of House episodes next season so she can film Cowboys and Aliens.
  • The Good Guys, starring Colin Hanks (Grady, The O.C.), premieres on FOX tomorrow night.

Breaking News: One Tree Hill Renewed For 8th Season

18 05 2010

The CW has renewed One Tree Hill for an 8th season, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michel Ausiello.

Ausiello reports The CW also renewed Life Unexpected, starring Shiri Appleby (Rene, Beverly Hills 90210) and Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek).

Ausiello says the renewals for OTH and LUX are for “at least 12 eps apiece.”

The network also reportedly ordered Nikita, featuring Melinda Clarke (Julie, The O.C.) and executive produced by McG (executive producer, The O.C.) , and Hellcats with Matt Barr (Ian “Psycho Derek” Banks, One Tree Hill; Keith van der Woodsen, Gossip Girl) and Robbie Jones (Quentin, One Tree Hill) as well as Ashley Tisdale, who once guest-starred on Beverly Hills 90210.

Per Ausiello, Melrose Place, which featured Laura Leighton (Sophie, Beverly Hills 90210) and Daphne Zuniga (Victoria, One Tree Hill), “is officially dead.”

The news is now being confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter as well as E!’s Kristin and other sources.

I have confirmed that the OTH folks do not yet know how many episodes the network will order, and Kristin reports that there is “no official word on what kind of episode orders OTH  and LUX have received, but we’re hearing they’ll split the season down the middle with 13 each.”

This presumably means Sophia Bush is out of the ABC pilot Southern Discomfort, since OTH takes priority. ABC has not yet announced whether they will order the pilot as a series or recast her role.

The CW will present their fall schedule to advertisers and the media Thursday morning in New York City. Honored to share I will be in attendance and tweeting from the event. A recap will be posted on TDW late in the day.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Forget about Chuck and Blair! The real craziness that’s going down toward the end of this season of Gossip Girl is all about who’s saying goodbye.

On the heels of the news that Taylor Momsen‘s Jenny Humphrey will be leaving the Upper East Side this season, I’m told now that yet another female regular will be heading off into the sunset. (And leaving one heartbroken boy behind.)

So who is it?

Marcio in Ipswich, Mass.: Could we get some news on One Tree Hill or Melrose Place? Will they both stick around?
Nope. I’m told Melrose Place is pretty much a goner. It would take a miracle for it to survive at this point. However, the jury’s still out on One Tree Hill. The ratings in the next few weeks do matter, and it returns with a new episode tonight. (Hint, hint.)

Bob in Oakland, Calif.: Are we gonna see my girl Kristen Bell again on Party Down?
Yes! Adam Scott spilled the scoop: “When the season starts, Uda (Kristen Bell) is my steady girlfriend. But then Casey (Lizzy Caplan) comes back into the fold and kind of screws everything up.” Thus freeing Kristen to reteam with creator and executive producer Rob Thomas for a Veronica Mars movie, right? We kid. But don’t give up hope yet: “I’d love to do one,” said Rob at the Party Down Paley Center for Media celebration for the show’s second season premiere. “Kristen would love to do one…We [just] need someone to pay for it!” Empty your piggy-banks, kids!

Marlo in London: What’s the scoop on Vanessa and Dan on Gossip Girl?
It’s not looking good long-term, sorry! I’m hearing that Vanessa will be leaving not only New York but the country before the end of the season–running off to a superfancy and superfar job with CNN. So yes, Jessica is the second female, along with Taylor Momsen’s Little J, to head off into the sunset. The good news? I’m told by sources that both ladies will still be series regulars next season. As for you wondering what Little J will do that leads to her departure, I’m told “it’s a culmination of lots of things Jenny does to multiple people.” That doesn’t sound good at all!

Matthew in Philadelphia: What’s the word on Gossip Girl?
Don’t expect Serena to continue to sit idly by while Jenny tries to hone in on Nate. The onetime pals and now stepsisters are headed for some seriously rough times ahead.

Jenelle from Conn.: Yay! One Tree Hill is back tonight! The death of Haley’s mom made for such a great episode! What happens after?
Well, when we talked to James Lafferty, he had this to say: “Haley has a long road ahead of her in dealing with her mother’s death, as anybody would. A big part of the Scott family life will be dealing with the grief. It’s definitely a growing experience for the family.” Another tease? Here’s the deal with Nathan for the rest of the season: “He’s finally got some time to spend with his family, and his family at this point in their lives really needs him,” James tells us. “He really gets the opportunity to be a father and a husband.” Model husband and father? Adorable.

Evelyn in Tacoma, Wash.: 90210 is really getting good, but how are things going to go down between Debbie and Harry if Rob Estes is leaving?
Believe it or not, Annie’s going to be the one to point out the marriage woes between her parents, causing them to really sit down and talk things over. But when Debbie finds out that Harry has pretty much enabled Dixon’s little gambling problems, something (one would find in a diaper) is going to hit the fan.

Notes:

I can’t see why the ratings at this point would have much of an impact on whether One Tree Hill is renewed. To date, One Tree Hill has outperformed both Gossip Girl and 90210, which received early renewals. Even if One Tree Hill dropped during these next four episodes, Gossip Girl and 90210 have dropped significantly in the last few months. OTH wouldn’t be the only show underperforming. Clearly ratings aren’t the biggest factor to The CW. That said I realize there’s more value in GG/90210 at low ratings than there is with OTH at low ratings. If I had to guess–and I’ll do it with a disclaimer that I’m far less experienced than Kristin–I’d say that while decent ratings are preferred, OTH’s renewal will really be based on how The CW’s pilots turn out and whether the network would rather risk starting a new series or risk sticking with an aging one.

Kristen Bell voices Gossip Girl on, um, Gossip Girl.
