News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl and The O.C.

  • Have you taken the TDW Survey yet?
  • Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new video content this week.
  • PEOPLE.com has 90210 spoilers.
  • SF Weekly has a great feature called Ten Bands That Have Rocked 90210, highlighting memorable music moments from Beverly Hills 90210 and 90210.
  • ABC’s Dancing With The Stars bio for Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) mentions she’ll be paired with Mark Ballas and she has a book called Bad Ass coming out.
  • Kristin and PopWrap have very spoilish interviews with Stephanie Savage (executive producer, Gossip Girl). She also makes a comparison to The O.C., which she also EPed.
  • Kellan Lutz (George, 9021o), Ed Westwick (Chuck, Gossip Girl), Josh Schwartz (creator, Gossip Girl; The O.C.), and Paul Wesley (Donnie, The O.C.) were named Fun Fearless Males for 2010 by Cosmopolitan.
  • Don’t believe this Hollywood Life “exclusive” that Westwick is buying a house for Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, Gossip Girl). Gossip Cop (full disclosure: my current employer) says it’s not true.
  • EW.com has an interview with Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) about Southland with a subtle dig at The O.C.
  • TVGuideMagazine.com posted a feature article on McKenzie. This may be the one in the magazine. This one has a nicer comment about The O.C.

It seems like Ben McKenzie is tired of talking about the o.c….haha

Since when was Shannen Doherty writing a book?? And is it just me or do her 2 latest ventures(DWTS and the book) seem very un-Shannen-like? Yes,she’s daring, but I don’t think that’s it. As for DWTS, the only dancing experience I’ve heard of her doing is choreographing a pole dance on “Charmed”, and I can’t picture her in revealing,sequin-filled outfits–she wears simple black everyday! For the book, my only possible reasoning would be that she wants to set the record straight on her rep?

Sorry for taking up space-I did some searching and this people.com article http://tvwatch.people.com/2010/03/02/shannen-doherty-dads-stroke-inspired-me-to-do-dwts/ explains most of it. I would never have guessed that about her father being the reason for her DWTS stint…

Lexy, could be! I understand…dt a degree.

Step, thanks for posting that article–I obviously didn’t see it. Boo. Anyway, she has always been very close to her dad and he’s had health problems going back to her BH90210 years (and that’s more or less the reason she gave in ’08 to explain her behavior back then). I can’t picture her dancing and wearing the revealing outfits, either. Furthermore, I don’t think she’s “likable.” I think everyone remembers or knows about her past and while people do like “comeback stories” and seeing people change, I’m not sure she has the DWTS winning personality. I mean, even when she laughs and seems to make a joke, I’m just turned off. Maybe that’s just me. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised. I just never expected her to do it, since Ian and Jennie already did, and because it puts her under the spotlight again which she used to loathe (and no doubt people will ask her about her past) and I had another reason that I just blanked on. As far as the book goes, I don’t know if it’s a memoir or fiction or just plain ol’ nonfiction that has nothing to do with her. I’ll be surprised if it’s a memoir because she seemed to be very against dishing on people (a la Tori in sTORI telling.)

Oh-maybe this was my other reason: that not only did her ex-husband do it, but he just did it last year. I wouldn’t think she’d want to be associated with him or have it look like she’s following him or doing it because he did or just have any more of a connection to him at all.

No problem about posting the article-I was actually very surprised to find something you didn’t post first! All of your reasons for why Shannen woukdn’t do DWTS/why she won’t win I dedinitely agree with. I think shes a good person deep down, just I don’t think enough people see tht to vote for her. I have to say that I’m rooting for her-partially because I’m a huge fan of her work, and lartialy because I’m fully supportive of her reinventing herself, i just doubt its going to happen! I agree about it being weird that it seems like she’s following Ashley,Jennie, and Ian-Shannen always prided herself in being headstrong. As for the book, I wouldn’t think tgat it would be a memoir, but the title makes me think tht it just might be one…I can only hope so!

I agree that the title kind of suggests it would be about her.

Something else I was thinking about yesterday is that Jerry Springer was hated across the board pre-DWTS but when he did the show, people found him to be very likable. So anything is possible…

Haha I didn’t even know Jerry Springer was ever on DWTS! My bad! Ooh I just saw that article about Candy commenting on Shannen’s gig-I seriously think Candy just wants to get publicity from Shannen-as far as I know, the never had a friendship or any sort of relationship whatsoever!

In Candy’s defense, I think she was just at some event and a reporter asked her what she thought. She was probably put on the spot and, sure, it’s in her best interest to give a positive comment. That said, yes, I’m sure she didn’t have any real relationship with Shannen back in the day (and if they did, I’m sure it was negative) and I’m sure they have no relationship today. Candy has said she never read sTORI telling (whether that’s true, who knows) but if she had, she would know/recall how horrible things were between Tori and Shannen and then, given her recent reconciliation with Tori, probably not be so complimentary of Shannen in her comments. Alas, I think it was probably nothing more than being randomly asked by a reporter and giving a positive, enthusiastic response, one that she probably doesn’t actually feel, because that’s what was expected of her and what’s in her best interest.

Oh, that’s a good point about Candy being put on the spot to say that. And reporters DO tend to spin interviews to be more dramatic then it is lol.
