RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Hey Korbi, Thanks for letting us know Adrianna and Navid would get back together. I love them as a couple! Any more 90210 news? -Kelley
I don’t know if the 9-0 writers have been watching too much Secret Life of the American Teenager — or maybe they’re partial to Engaged & Underage — but one of their young twosomes will be betrothed before the end of the season… while another couple we love will get to work on an internet sex video.

Tuesday Night Reaction

11 02 2009

90210

  • Love how Jonas Brothers are “hosting” tonight but, in reality, all of this was pre-taped!
  • Naomi in that hotel is giving me Dylan flashbacks.  Also very Valerie of her.
  • And we finally meet the “new Dylan.”  Let the disappointment begin.
  • Wow, Silver became a sap in one week’s time.  Foreshadowing her mental problems?
  • That was an intense Whitney Houston reference!
  • And some intense in-school Valentine’s Day decorations!
  • Good for Annie getting into that class.  Don’t necessarily want to actually see that storyline though.
  • Rhonda’s still faking it, apparently.
  • Extended ANTM commercial really necessary?
  • Navid has his arm around Nika!  How close have they gotten?!
  • That Adrianna tirade was way out of character for him.
  • Q1: “I’m getting pity flowers from the faculty.”–Adrianna (Hilariously sad!)
  • Q2: “If I was going to the Island of Lesbos, you’d be my pick.”–Naomi
  • Imagine how many times Ethan has said “I owe you” since the accident@
  • Wow, good for Rhonda for coming clean.
  • Mature response by Ethan but also a little strong and probably gave her the wrong impression.  (Or maybe he does have romantic feelings for her?)
  • ENOUGH WITH THE DR. PEPPER!
  • Guess A and N still hate each other.  Oh well.
  • Q3: “Tell me it’s the Portabello quiche I dreamt about last night.”–Adrianna
  • There’s that acting class I didn’t want to see.  Great.
  • Ironic that Annie’s getting the point that she’s not such a good actor, when that’s what a lot of viewers think about Shenae Grimes!
  • Surprised she didn’t run out of the class.  That was really embarassin!
  • So do the Jo. Bros. segments mean we’re getting a shorter episode this week?  Or less commercials? Let’s hope the latter!
  • Q4: “I think Nat got a little carried away with the Valentine’s theme.”– Ethan (At least he was mentioned, but let’s see him!)
  • LOL Love that Silver tried that classic move with the host.
  • Stuffed Hentapus reference!
  • That’s an expensive dare!  Is this a true story?
  • Wow, did he really take Rhonda’s hand in front of Annie?!
  • Aw, I forgot Naomi and Silver used to be close!
  • Q5: “We’re not exactly friends or even frienemies.”–Silver
  • Naomi is getting her flirt on!  And it pays off…
  • Q6: “Well, if I had a girl, I wouldn’t be flirting with your friend here.”–Liam
  • Silver and her accent bit was hilarious.
  • Adrianna should’ve kept walking right past Navid.  Let him chase her!
  • Really love the sweet side of Adrianna.  And the vulnerable side.
  • Silver is still hanging with Naomi!  Wow!
  • Is Silver a manic?  Super-high highs (now), super-low lows (last week). David is her brother, after all.  Then again, David gets it from his mom who Silver isn’t related to.  Hmmm.
  • True that actors channel past painful moments.
  • Going to steal Rhonda’s story?  You betcha!
  • The flashbacks aren’t necessary.  We get what’s going on!  It was just a few minutes ago!
  • What’s the point of this?  This device only works if she’s going to get caught.
  • Damn, she got caught!
  • Is Ethan’s reaction fair?
  • Q7: “I can’t even look at you.”–Ethan
  • Q8: “What’s better than wow?” “I don’t but there needs to be a word.”–Dixon and Silver
  • Dixon’s Chris Brown resemblance is especially strong tonight.  Maybe he’s just on my mind given recent events!
  • Will Liam show?  Was Naomi too forward?
  • Hello, angry Silver!
  • Does the bracelet just say her name? (Like, is the point Silver on silver?)
  • Q9: “I love you and I want to be with you.”
  • Annie’s crying is a little much.
  • HSM 3 commercial!
  • Correct to assume Silver and Dixon are both virgins, right?
  • Was wondering who would make the first move.
  • Can see how Rhonda was led-on.  Can also see why Ethan was taken aback.  Hmmm…
  • Do we have to worry about her taking sleeping pills now?
  • Aw, Navid came by!  Mixed signals all around!  What happened to Nika?!
  • Q10: “You have what I hope is chocolate all of your face.–Navid
  • Q11: “It wasn’t anywhere near perfect.”  “Why?”  “Because I wasn’t with you.  So I wanted to ask you something.  Will you be my Valentine?”  (Aw!)
  • Correct to assume Silver and Dixon did actually sleep together, right?
  • Holey moley!  Silver is an idiot!
  • Q12: “…so don’t go changing it or I’m gonna be really upset!”–Silver
  • Whew, Rhonda is alive and well.  Guess that’s a good thing.
  • Very Brenda-Dylan-Kelly of Ethan to look at both girls and then just walk away.
  • Well, hello Harry!
  • Never guessed that Liam was lying too!
  • He does mad really well!
  • That’s how the episode ends?!  We deserve a better ending than that!  That was just commercial break-worthy!
  • Promo: 90210 is going Fast & the Furious style.
  • No new episodes until March 31st!  What’s with our shows going into repeat mode?  Ugh!
  • Don’t forget: this episode will be repeated tomorrow!

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Bella in Austin, Texas: Do you know if David will return with Donna when she heads for 90210?
There’s a chance Mr. Silver (Brian Austin Green) will eventually head back to the infamous ZIP code. He’s currently in Japan, but Tori Spelling tells us, “His lady Donna is in L.A., so maybe he’ll come on over.” For you hard-core original 90210 fans, don’t worry, David’s not hitting the speed anymore. He’s clean and “he’s a papa now,” adds Tori.

Margaret in Seattle: I still cannot believe that Nate and Blair are hooking up! What will happen with Vanessa?
Jessica Szohr
tells us, “Obviously, Vanessa’s a little bit hurt because that’s her boyfriend, but what comes around goes around, so I’m sure Vanessa will be all right.” Looks like Queen B may be getting yet another lesson in karma. Will it humble her or cause her claws to retract? Of course not!

Frances in Boston: Will Dan and Serena’s half brother make an appearance?
I’m told the tentative plan is to make him a major character next season. So that may put a big ol’ nail in the coffin of what was once our beloved Derena. Anyone care?

Leslie in Hattiesburg, Miss.: Now that Ty’s sticking around on 90210, will he be going after Annie?
That’s what I’m hearing. Now that he’s freed up from the baby-mama drama, Adam Gregory tells me, “He’s the kind of guy who’s going to take what he wants. He’s not going to let anyone stand in his way!” And it sounds like Ethan won’t see it coming either, since he’s got a new somethin’-somethin’ blooming with Rhonda (Aimee Teegarden). Dustin Milligan tells me, “It’s looking like there are going to be some drastic turns for everybody’s character? Ethan Ward gets to kiss everybody, remember that.”

Site of the Week: LAist

9 02 2009

LAist is a blog all about, well, Los Angeles. So what does that have to do with teen dramas?  Well, every Wednesday LAist posts the most entertaining 90210 recaps I’ve ever read.

In each “Morning After Report,” an in-depth summary is sparkled with just the right amounts of wit and snark.

Don’t believe me?  Read for yourself!

Random Gripe

7 02 2009

One of the things 90210 uses for promotion is the ties it has to the original series, including featuring and mentioning original characters.

But those things end up being so unsatisfying because the show seems to do them half-assed (which isn’t surprising giving the LA Times piece from earlier this week). They mention or feature a character but don’t provide information for the new storyline to make sense with the old.

So the question is: why don’t they fill in the holes?

Example 1: Dylan is the father of Kelly’s son, Sammy, who was born sometime since 2000 but not after 2005. So when exactly did that happen? And why didn’t Kelly and Dylan marry when she got pregnant? And why did they split up?

Example 2: In the pilot episode, Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez was giving the morning news at West Bev. But since when does Hannah (and her parents, Andrea and Jesse) live in Beverly Hills and if they do, where are they? We haven’t seen Hannah since that first episode!

Example 3: Brandon, we’re told, is traveling the world, covering wars and like. Or so it seems. So he’s still a journalist? Where is he based out of? Is he married?

Example 4: When and why did The Peach Pit change locations and names? And where has Nat been lately?

Example 5: According to spoilers/rumors, Donna is living in Japan with David but may move back to Beverly Hills–or at least returns to help Silver as she goes through a tough time. But didn’t Brenda say, early in the season, that she saw Donna and her “cute” baby? How, if they are living in Japan? And what happened to Now Wear This? (And Kelly’s PR firm?!) And how can Donna come/move back without David and their kid? And why would Donna come back to help Silver but David, her own brother, wouldn’t?

These bones that the writers throw to us end up being worth very little because they lack so much information. There isn’t a genuine effort to reward, respect or even keep viewers of the original.

What are your thoughts?

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl and The O.C.

7 02 2009
  • Diablo Cody wrote a column for Entertainment Weekly about her 90210 cameo experience.  She boldly says the new 90210 is better than the original.  Oh, Diablo.  Any real fan knows that is not true!
  • More Gossip Girl casting news!  We heard in early February that Nate (Chace Crawford) is getting a cousin.  Now we know who will be playing the role: Aaron Tviet, whose past credits mainly include Broadway shows.
  • The Daily Beast has a really thought-provoking article called Gossip Girl Deathwatch.  The story looks at similarities between The O.C.’s downfall (which you can read about here) and Gossip Girl’s current path.

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl and The O.C.

6 02 2009
  • Diablo Cody tweeted about her guest appearance on 90210.
  • TV Gal over on Zap2it wants to know which main character you’d like to see leave the show.  Hard question!
  • Unrelated to the above, Korbi at Zap2it is reporting that the show is casting someone to be Naomi’s older sister.
  • Krysten Ritter is the first person to be cast in the Gossip Girl spin-off.  Ritter will play Carol, Lily’s older sister.
  • How am I just realizing now that Michael Cassidy (Zach, The O.C.) is on Privileged??  That’s what I get for never giving the show a chance!  Cassidy will also be on Josh Schwartz’s online series, Rockville, CA.

Biggest Character Transformations Pt. 3

6 02 2009

My look at the Biggest Character Transformations continues…

LILY VAN DER WOODSEN (Gossip Girl)

Who She Was: Lily grew up on the West Coast, where she lived a life of privilege before being kicked out of boarding school and going to live with her sister in The Valley. She became a band “groupie,” which is where she met Rufus Humphrey, and was institutionalized for a short time.  (Note: this all occurred off-screen, but some of it will be seen in the upcoming Gossip Girl spin-off!)

Who She Became: Lily returned to her privileged lifestyle, but this time on East Coast, where she married and divorced several times and became a socialite on the Upper East Side of New York City.

KELLY TAYLOR (Beverly Hills, 90210/90210)

Who She Was: The gang’s beautiful, popular, spoiled rich bitch who was obsessed with boys and shopping.

kelly-taylor

Who She Became: A major rewrite was noticeable by the end of season 3, where Kelly lost a lot of her shallowness.  The seasons that followed had a more logical progression with Kelly maturing and taking life more seriously, particularly by pursuing a college degree in psychology and working for non-profit organizations.  The 90210 spin-off rewrote the character once more, making Kelly a single parent and a high school guidance counselor.

TOMORROW: More from The O.C. and One Tree Hill

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Anything on 90210? -Missy
Adrianna and Navid are so not over. And the adoption option is still on the table. I’m told Navid will be at Ade’s side as she weighs the possibilities and meets with prospective parents.

Please tell me this Blair and Nate thing won’t last. -Karolina
Take comfort, it’ll be but a blip in the Gossip Girl timeline.
