Random Gripe

23 01 2009

Why has Nat (Joe E. Tata) been MIA from the new 90210?

So first they bastardized The Peach Pit, and then they don’t even give us some Nat-love?

The beloved creator of the Mega Burger hasn’t been seen since episode 4 in September.

In contrast, Nat appeared in more than 250 episodes of the original series.

90210 Locations Pt. 4

23 01 2009

It’s time for a look at another iconic Beverly Hills, 90210 location.

West Beverly High

Torrance High School!

I mean, West Beverly!

The first three seasons were actually shot at this high school in Torrance.  The new 90210 continues to shoot there as well, and at a high school in El Segundo.

Does this look familiar?  (Ignore the fence!)

West Beverly Courtyard

Many a scene took place in this courtyard, and around the fountain (currently under construction).

Look closely! That’s me sitting Dylan McKay-style!

Sitting Dylan McKay-Style

Let’s see if you recognize any of these areas…

Come back tomorrow to see where the gang goes after high school graduation!

Spoiler: Ask Ausiello

21 01 2009

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!
Question: Come on, Ausiello! Give us scoop on Gossip Girl! — Sam
Ausiello:
First let me say that Monday’s episode was an absolute triumph on all levels (acting, writing, directing)…which makes the fact that it was the lowest-rated of the season all the more depressing. (Time to reboot the system, Nielsen!) On the scoop front, I know what brings Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) back to town, and it’s not her seemingly indefatigable quest to piss off frenemy Serena. Quite the contrary, in fact. Take it away, exec producer Josh Schwartz! “Certain times a situation is so dire that it requires the assistance of even your most sworn enemy,” he teases. “It just might come to pass that Serena and Blair find themselves in a situation where they have no recourse other than to recruit Georgina Sparks.” In other GG news, the show is casting the possibly recurring role of an “unassumingly cute” 16-year-old male. Sounds like Jenny’s getting a new suitor!

Question: 90210 gets so little attention from you! Got any scoop? — Stephanie
Ausiello:
This season’s 19th episode (airing in April) will be must-see-worthy for two reasons: It marks Tori Spelling’s return as Donna and features the arrival of Dixon’s estranged mother.

Tuesday Night Reaction

21 01 2009

90210

  • Ty looks just like Tyson Ritter from The All-American Rejects.  This is a very good thing!
  • Ryan should’ve gotten a haircut while he was gone.
  • Q1: “I think my Dead Poets Society days are over.”–Ryan
  • Ryan blew off Kelly but shouldn’t have been the other way around?  HE slept with HER friend!
  • Who really dreams of playing Cleopatra?
  • Why on earth would Ethan audition for the spring play?  Makes no sense.  Kind of like Annie.
  • Q2: “I’d send you to my chamber.”–Annie
  • Q3: “I hope I don’t smile during the suicide monologue or kill myself during the toothpaste commercial.”–Adrianna
  • Wow.  There are even Dr. Pepper plugs in the school cafeteria.  WE GET THE MESSAGE!
  • Did Ryan purposefully leave the Kelly history out of the reason why he kicked Silver out of class?
  • Q4: “You’re not the like the other teachers.”  “Maybe that was the problem.”–Silver and Ryan
  • Ryan seems quite pissed to be back at West Bev.  So why did he bother coming back at all?
  • Why is Kelly, the guidance counselor, the go-to person for help?  Doesn’t the school have a nurse or a psychologist?
  • Weird that Naomi is so pro-abortion when just last week she said she’d help Adrianna no matter what she decided.
  • Weird that they’re having this intense conversation in public!
  • I really like when Dixon gets emotional and profound.  It’s a really great side to him.
  • Another instance of copying the original show: Naomi, the spoiled princess, has to move out of her house.  Just like Kelly did in season 3!
  • No more Tracy = yay!
  • Eating, playing with your cell AND driving is never a good thing.  And yet we all do it.
  • Did Adrianna drive all night?  And now is she skipping school?
  • Q5: “I supposed it would kill you to wear one of the other 44 pairs I bought you.”–Naomi’s dad
  • Q6: “If I sleep on wet hair it’s a crap-fest in the morning.”–Naomi
  • Q7: “I like the way you wear your jeans one size too small.”–Ethan
  • Q8: “I just didn’t figure you’d end up with a jock.”–Ty
  • Q11: “You know what?  West Beverly High doesn’t revolve around Kelly Taylor’s love life.”–Ryan BURN!
  • Q12: “If anyone should be pissed here, it’s me.  Brenda!  Really?!”–Kelly
  • Q13: “Maybe you don’t know me.”  “Maybe I don’t want to.”  Ryan and Kelly DOUBLE BURN!
  • I guess it’s good Ryan is fulfilling his commitment to the school?
  • Q 14: “This is not how we do it in New York, honey.”–the new drama treacher
  • Missing audition–>apologizing–>auditioning anyway–>getting the lead = so cliche!
  • Artichoke fiend?  That’s a new one.
  • Shockaroo?  That’s another new one.
  • Nice that Debbie is pro-being with Dixon’s girlfriend.  Not all parents are when the kids are still in high school.
  • Q15: “It just feels like there’s something big under the rug.  Someone’s gonna trip!”–Dixon
  • Why do people always get recommendations from their hairdressers?
  • If Naomi wouldn’t get an abortion herself, why was she pushing Adrianna to do it?
  • Did not see it coming that Adrianna wouldn’t be able to have an abortion.  Don’t think I’ve seen that before.  Good twist!
  • Q16: “You haven’t earned the right to parent me!”–Naomi
  • Q17: “I don’t need a father anymore.  But thanks!”–Naomi
  • Wow, she reserved a hotel room.  Guess she’ll start living Dylan McKay-style…
  • Q18: “Thank you for making me wanna stay up all night getting carpal tunnel.”–Silver
  • Q19: “You might want to cut down on the colloquialisms.  Kick ass, bad-ass.  Anything with an ass.”–Ryan
  • Q20: “Please no crying.  At least until I’m out of hearing range.”–the new drama teacher
  • Q21: “Platinum speculum all the way!”–Naomi (That is just wrong on so many levels!)
  • So did Adrianna really sleep with Ty that night she was trying to make Annie jealous? Or was it some other time?
  • Wow, Annie’s ego can’t handle a small role.  To be fair, I couldn’t in high school either…
  • Q22: “I don’t really know what Egyptian food entails.  Cous cous.  I’m guessing cous cous!”–Ethan
  • Q23: “You know you’re my leading lady.”–Ethan
  • Idiot!  When your sad girlfriend stays home, you stay with her!
  • Did Ryan not learn his lesson?  You should not be flirting with the new drama teacher!
  • Q24: “I know you’re not a mind-reader.”  “You’re on to me!”–Dixon and Silver
  • I love Silver’s storminess!  Apparently Dixon does not…
  • Q25: “We’re breaking up.  It’s over.”–Dixon
  • No Navid in this episode.  Guess he’s still thinking!
  • What does home court advantage have to do with scoring a role in a play?!
  • Q26: “Why is life so full of challenges?”  “‘Cause it’s life.”–Annie and Harry
  • Wow, that car crash came out of nowhere!  See Ethan, you should’ve stayed with Annie!
  • That promo gave me chills!  Can’t believe we have to wait two weeks!
  • In the meantime, be sure to check back this week for my photos of the 90210 filming locations!

90210, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and More

20 01 2009
  • A “crisis” will occur in the 90210 episode that Jason Priestley directs.  A hospital is involved somehow.
  • AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210) will be returning to Nip/Tuck later this month.
  • More details are being released about Kelly Rutherford’s (Lily, Gossip Girl) impending divorce and custody battle.
  • EW’s recap of last night’s Gossip Girl (you can read my reaction here) criticizes The O.C. and Dawson’s Creek for the way it transitioned to college.  Beverly Hills 90210, on the other hand, is complimented.
  • DC is again criticized here, now by Buddy TV, for its approach to college. This time, though, The O.C. and One Tree Hill get credit.
  • A paper in the UK is calling Gossip Girl “rubbish” that they “can’t get enough of.”  What does that say about them?
  • There’s a new page on Facebook exclusively for Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick, Gossip Girl) quotes.
  • According to an exclusive statement given to OneTreeHillFans.com, there will not be an OTH charity basketball game like there’s been in the past.
  • The same site is also reporting of rumors that Chad Michael Murray (Lucas) will not return for a seventh season.  They also acknowledge this has been denied by the network.

New 90210 Tonight!

20 01 2009

From Entertainment Weekly writer Jessica Shaw:

Hot, stubbly teacher Mr. Matthews returns!  He better look out, though, ’cause hell hath no fury like Kelly Taylor after her man slept with Brenda.

News Roundup: 90210, Dawson’s Creek, Gossip Girl and More

19 01 2009
  • Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210) is given the backhanded compliment of “looking better” in the January 26th issue of PEOPLE. She’s among two others (Nicole Richie and Amy Winehouse) who were “once blasted for appearing dangerously thin [and now] are starting the new year with fitter figures.”
  • Korbi over at Zap2it says the Annie/Ethan drama on 90210 is “killing” her.  Says Korbi: “The series seems insistent on making them the epicenter of the show and I can’t stress what a bad idea this is.”  I have to agree, only because I can’t really stand Annie.
  • Adam Kaufman (Ethan, Dawson’s Creek) stars alongside Lauren Ambrose in the CBS movie Loving Leah, which airs this Sunday.
  • The January 23rd issue of Entertainment Weekly gives a fresh take on Heath Ledger’s death, and the role his relationship with Michelle Williams (Jen, Dawson’s Creek) played in it.
  • In that same issue, EW gives Jessica Szhor’s Vanessa (Gossip Girl) a “death wish.” The mag writes, “Face it, Gossip Girl. Your resident hipster is about as much of a renegade as Nick on Family Ties. It’s about time she was run over by a Starbucks delivery truck.”
  • The One Tree Hill fan reunion has mysteriously been canceled…You can read why here.

Site of the Week: 90210Locations

19 01 2009

While in Los Angeles this past week, I was planning on doing some scouting, based on my own knowledge, of places seen on Beverly Hills, 90210.

And then about a week before I left, I found this: 90210Locations, the most thorough listing of all the sites I’ve seen on the show.

Where is Casa Walsh really located?  They have it.

Where was Jack McKay allegedly blown up? They have it.

Where were all the locations of The Peach Pit? They have it.

Where are the locations of the new 90210?  They have it.

And when I tell you I was hyperventilating when I found this, I am not exaggerating.

All this week I’ll post the pictures I took at the locations I visited.

But whether you actually get to go there or not, this site is THE resource to have.

Special thanks to Geoff for all his help!

Unrelated but also worth checking out: The O.C. Filming Locations

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl and Dawson’s Creek

17 01 2009
  • Do any of you watch Skins?  The Washington Post says it makes Gossip Girl and 90210 “look like ‘Little House on the Prairie.'”
  • What do the 90210 stars, new and old, think about football and the Superbowl?  You can find out here.
  • Ouch!  A new article calls 90210 “spineless” and Gossip Girl “shallow.”  The article names Friday Night Lights the “teen drama MVP.”  If that’s right, apparently I should be covering it…
  • Michael Steger (Navid, 90210) has managed to keep a low-profile since the series began.  He opens up a teensy bit in this new article.
  • It’s not 90210 and sure ain’t General Hospital.  Instead, Vanessa Marcil (Gina, Beverly Hills 90210) is headed to Without a Trace.
  • The Boston Globe has a great article about Michelle Williams (Jen, Dawson’s Creek), her new movie Wendy and Lucy, and life after Heath.  You can read it here.
