- My 90210 reaction post will be delayed due to a screw up with my DVR. My apologies.
- Last night’s 90210 (1.5 million viewers rounded up) dropped a tiny bit in the ratings compared to last week, hitting a new season- and series-low. If you recall, last week also rounded to 1.5, but the unrounded number this time is even lower (1.480 versus 1.508).
- EW.com has an interview with Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) about Dancing With The Stars.
- Doherty apparently declined to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, which all other eliminated contestants have done in the past, but she did appear on Good Morning America this morning.
- My colleagues at Gossip Cop had the task of busting another false Doherty rumor.
- Tiffani Amber Thiessen (Valerie, Beverly Hills 90210) had a baby shower hosted by Naomi Lowde, wife of Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210).
- Thiessen is on the cover of the May issue of Pregnancy magazine.
- CelebrityBabyScoop.com has an interview with Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210).
- PEOPLE.com has a photo of Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, Gossip Girl) in the Op campaign. There’s more on the Op site, including ones featuring Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210).
- One Tree Hill is one of the top 5 shows getting the most votes so far in Kristin’s Save One Show campaign.
- Twenty-seven percent of “media buyers” surveyed believe One Tree Hill is the veteran show most at-risk for cancellation.
- Everly, featuring Bethany Joy Galeotti (Haley, One Tree Hill), and Enation, who have been seen and heard on One Tree Hill (and includes Galeotti’s hubby Michael!), have booked a joint concert date for late August in South Dakota. Let’s hope more are coming!
- SoapNet has an O.C. I.Q. quiz. Unlike the One Tree Hill one, I only got a 7o percent this time! I was told: “You know your OC well enough to hang with the gang at Newport Union, but if you want to crack Harbor High’s inner circle, you might need to brush up.” Ouch.
- JustJared has–dare I say it–a pretty good interview with Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.).
- PEOPLE.com has details on the divorce settlement between James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) and his soon-to-be ex-wife.

It is really upsetting me that 90210 is getting such low ratings! This show is amazing but their online views and DVR recordings are pretty high so I guess that makes up for the low live ratings.
That OC quiz was messed up. I would have gotten 100% but they gave me one question three times and didn’t give me the Luke or Kaitlin questions, which I knew 😦
No problem about not being able to write a post about 90210-its not your fault that technology doesn’t work! About Shannen-it’s interesting how this is the first time she has really put any emotion into interviews. From the first time I heard about her doing DWTS for her dad, I noticed how differently she is approaching everything. Before DWTS, people got away with calling her “the b*tch” because only her close family and friends knew otherwise. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve followed Shannen for the past few years and I definitely see a change in her. I never would have expected her to admit to the public that she’s been crying(kudos to her for baring it all!)! I didn’t know that no one ever turned down Kimmel before, and I certainly can’t blame Shannen for needing time to be sad privately.
Wes: The drop in 90210’s ratings is very disturbing. While you make a fair and good point about the online and DVR viewings, this is getting to be ridiculous low, even for The CW. I’m very eager to see if it keeps dropping, to hear if the other numbers are dropping as well, and what The CW does in response (if anything).
Alyssa: That sucks! I’m sorry it malfunctioned for you. I messed up on the Luke book question, the band that never played the Bait Shop and another one but I can’t remember which.
Step: Thanks for understanding. As for Shannen, well, we have a difference of opinion. Maybe I’m just cynical. Or harsh. Below is what I wrote to a friend yesterday, explaining why I’m not buying the act–yes, act–she’s put on the last month.
Disclaimer: I don’t hate Shannen. I don’t know her. Never met her, never interviewed her. My opinions are based off extensive research I’ve done over the years, most notably in 2008 for this paper: https://teendramawhore.wordpress.com/about-the-whore/multiple-personality-disorder-shannen-dohertys-image-through-the-years
At the very least, I find her recent actions to be questionable. At the most, one could argue she’s extremely two-faced, manipulative and, well, a liar.
Below are some facts and things about those facts to consider.
1. She said she was doing Dancing With The Stars because her dad had a stroke in December and doing this for him will make him happy.
-Her dad has been sick since she’s been, like, 10. He’s had several strokes and several heart attacks. She said in 2008 she never spoke about it much because it was no one’s business. Now she’s bringing it up in every interview.
-She said not only has her dad been a fan of the show for years, but that DWTS has been asking her to participate for years.
-So, if her dad’s health issues are nothing new, his desire for her to do the show is nothing new, and them asking her to participate is nothing new, why now?
2. She has a book, about lessons she’s learned in her life, coming out later this year.
-Coincidental timing? I think not.
-She said in an interview in 2008 that she wasn’t interested in writing a book about her life and, besides that, she thinks it’s something that you do in your 80s. Last time I checked, she wasn’t in her 80s.
-She also said she wouldn’t write a book and talk about her BH90210 days and the cast. But based on the official descriptions of the book, it doesn’t seem like that topic will be skipped.
3. She said she has a monumental fear of being in front of an audience and being judged.
-This girl, who has been acting since she was a little kid, who has made countless appearances at public events and on talk shows, all with audiences there, all of a sudden can’t handle being in front of an audience?
-I’m pretty sure she also previously said she would never do something like DWTS, because the public shouldn’t have the right to judge her and she doesn’t need to get anyone’s approval. But I can’t find the publication again to confirm.
4. She said the reputation she got during the BH90210 years–of being a “bad girl”–is ridiculous and unfounded and should be dismissed.
-The tagline Dancing With The Stars used for her? “Beverly Hills Bad Girl.” She had a say in that.
-The name of her upcoming book? “Bad Ass.” She had a say in that, too.
I see someone who knows she has a reputation for being a hard-ass, for being a bitch, for wanting things her way. I see someone who knew the audience was expecting her to be brass and show sass. I see someone who knows people will be surprised if she says she’s doing this all for her dad and that, woe-is-me, gets terrible hives when she is in front of audience. I see someone who knows to turn on the water works and play the sympathy card. I see someone who knows how this game works.
And, I’m not interested in playing her game.
Hmm, that’s definitely something to think about. Definitely well thought out!
I will admit now that everything is somewhat questionable. I don’t know how far I would go with that-I don’t think she’s enitrely a liar, but I see how you’ve formed your opinion. In response to your other points, here’s possible defenses (not that I’m sure which side to be on now):
1. Maybe her dad’s health problems were never this bad before-now she realizes that this could be her last chance to do this for him?
2. I never saw an interview like that, but I believe you. Maybe she changed her mind?
3. Well, she’s done interviews, but come to think of it, I feel like she hasn’t done as many interviews as someone of her fame would have. Although the one thing that sticks out in my mind is hearing the story of her being interviewed as a kid on someone(I forget who)’s new talk show, and she made a comment like “You’re nervous, aren’t you?”. Someone nervous about being interviewed wouldn’t say that….I don’t think.
4. I didn’t think about her having a say in her promo title for DWTS, but you’re right. Maybe she’s learning to make fun of herself? Although that wouldn’t go along with her recent “sensitive” personality…
This is so confusing! I don’t know what to think anymore! Reminds me of when Shannen departed from “Charmed”-was she fired or quit? I don’t think I’ll ever know for sure.
I don’t think we’ll ever know the real Shannen for sure, either, or the real story with anything related to her. And, I guess, really, we’re not supposed to, we don’t have to. She doesn’t owe us anything, we aren’t actually in her life. So, to be honest, it’s really not fair of me to judge and make all these suppositions. Nonetheless, these are the conclusions I have come to.
I loved your interview with Trevor Donovan TDwhore. What he nice? He seems very nice.
Thank you, Jesabell! He is very nice–charming, too!
