  • As teased during last night’s episode, the Jonas Brothers will give a sneak peak of their new movie during next week’s 90210 and give a special performance.  Jessica Lowdnes (Adrianna) says she hopes the Jo Bros will actually be on the show at some point.

  • Closing The Ring, starring Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.) has been released on DVD.

Biggest Character Transformations

4 02 2009

For the next few days I’ll be looking at the characters who’ve had the biggest transformations over the course of a series.  In other words, the people who started out as A and ended up as Z, someone totally different than who they were initially.  This could be due to logical character growth and progression or dramatic license to rewrite the character.

Without further ado, in no particular order:

TEEN DRAMAS’ BIGGEST CHARACTER TRANSFORMATIONS

DONNA MARTIN (Beverly Hills, 90210)

Who She Was: Kelly’s air-headed sidekick who once wore two contacts in the same eye and struggled in school due to a learning disorder; virginal Daddy’s girl.

donna3

Who She Became: One of the show’s most memorable characters (Donna Martin Graduates, anyone?) and one-half of the show’s most-lasting couple.  Donna, who intended to be a virgin til marriage, gave it up to David (her future husband, at least) in season 7.  By the later seasons, Donna had gone from secondary character to fourth-billed, with her own boutique and a successful career as a fashion designer.

JEN LINDLEY (Dawson’s Creek)

Who She Was: As Jen herself said, “the second I stepped out of that cab and onto the creek, I was the instigator, you know? The girl who caused problems and rocked the creek and upset the delicate emotional balance of Capeside.”

jen-lindley-2

Who She Became: Though largely insecure still, Jen shed her bad girl reputation and developed strong friendships with the others in Capeside, particularly Jack who let her be his “fag-hag.”  Jen moved to New York in the last season where she repaired her fragile relationship with her mother and helped her grandmother through breast cancer.  In the series finale, which took place 5 years in the future, we found Jen had become a mother to an adorable infant named Amy.

TOMORROW: Characters from The O.C. and One Tree Hill

Random Question

1 02 2009

So I’ve been doing YouTube “research” for various series I’ll be posting in the future and one of my searches led me nowhere.

I cannot find a (decent) video that is a tribute to Dawson’s Creek AND includes Audrey (Busy Philipps).

Busy was a regular in seasons 5 and 6, and, as she was critical to a number of storylines, very much became part of the “gang.”

And yet, in any video I watch (including the one posted this morning), it’s like she never existed!

While I realize she wasn’t part of the core 4 (or 5 if you count Jack or 6 if you count Andie) but a true representation of the show through the years would include all the regulars.

Do you disagree about Audrey’s significance?

And do you know of any good videos that include her?

YouTube Video of the Week

1 02 2009

If you miss Dawson’s Creek as much as I do, this video is a great stroll down memory lane.  It was originally aired at the very end of the series finale.

Is your favorite clip included in this montage?  If not, what would you add?

Love Triangles Pt. 2: Dawson’s Creek

27 01 2009

YESTERDAY: BEVERLY HILLS, 90210

TODAY: DAWSON’S CREEK

JEN-DAWSON-JOEY

How It Started: Best friends since they were little kids, Joey and Dawson’s friendship begins to fracture when Dawson becomes infatuated with the new girl in town, Jen.  Though Joey is harboring secret romantic feelings for Dawson, he begins seeing Jen.

How It Ended: Dawson’s relationship with Jen doesn’t last long and he soon realizes he has feelings for Joey, too.  They are together off and on throughout the series (they end off; see below) but Dawson and Jen also get back together for a short time in season 5.

Key Episodes: 1.1, 1.7, 1.10, 1.12-1.13, 2.1, 2.3, 2.10-2.11, 4.23, 5.8, 5.10, 5.17, 5.23, 6.1-6.2

YouTube Evidence: Jen, Dawson and Joey: The Girl Next Door; Joey, Jen, Dawson–Over You

DAWSON-JOEY-PACEY

How It Started: In season 3, Pacey begins to develop feelings for Joey.  Much to Joey’s surprise, she does as well.  They hesitantly pursue a relationship in secret but Joey calls things off after Dawson finds out and reacts negatively.  By the end of the season, though, Dawson realizes he cannot stand in the way of their love and so Joey and Pacey begin a relationship.

How It Ended: The memories of her relationship with Dawson hang like a cloud over both Joey and Pacey during their relationship.  They break up towards the end of the season 4, and Joey and Dawson share a kiss in that season’s finale.  Throughout seasons 5 and 6, Joey and Dawson struggle with the idea of being together again.  In season 6, Joey and Pacey do get back together before a short time before Joey calls it off.  In the series finale, which takes place 5 years after the end of season 6, Joey is again torn by Dawson and Pacey.  Ultimately, though, she chooses to spend her life with Pacey.

Key Episodes: 3.1, 3.9, 3.12-3.14, 3.17-3.23, 4.1, 4.3, 4.7, 4.14, 4.16, 4.21, 4.23, 5.3, 5.23, 6.1-6.2, 6.15, 6.18, 6.21-6.24

YouTube Evidence: DC True Love Previously On…; Dawson/Joey/Pacey; Dawson, Joey, Pacey–Near To You

Joshua Jackson on Dawson’s Creek

21 01 2009

“I thought it was really honest in the very beginning about being in high school and the first time you fall in love and all of those things. But once everyone graduated, I found it dishonest that all of those people would still be that intimately a part of the issues of each other’s lives. You just don’t go to college with the same people that you grew up with in high school.”

“But having to work hard all the time on ‘Dawson’s Creek’ was the best lesson that I could have taken from that series.”
