Stephanie Savage on putting fan-favorite couples together

7 04 2009

“We think we had good success on [our first series] “The O.C.”, for example, with the Seth and Summer storyline, where they were really together as a couple for the vast majority of the show. We told stories where they were having issues and they were having obstacles, but in the context of them as a couple. So it’s not necessarily the case that once a couple comes together, they stop being interesting or stop being able to generate story.”

Spoiler: Ask Ausiello

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: Got any Gossip Girl/Jenny Humphrey scoops? –Giovanni
Ausiello:
According to exec producer Stephanie Savage, Dan’s kid sis “has a big Blair, Mean Girls story for the end of the season that also ties in with the Rufus/Lily story. And you will see that a new course has been charted for Jenny Humphrey in the fall.”

Question: Do we know anything about Gossip Girl‘s prom episode? –Charisma
Ausiello:
Only that No Doubt will be performing, just not in this decade and not as No Doubt. “No Doubt is going to be playing in our ’80s flashback/[spin-off] episode,” reveals Stephanie Savage. “They’re playing an up-and-coming ’80s band.”

Question: Will we ever meet Harry’s real son on 90210? –Christopher
Ausiello:
Not this season. And probably not next, either. Newly crowned show-runner Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair says “there was an overabundance of adoption-centric stories when I came to the show. And I didn’t feel like we could tell the story of the real son on the heels of the imposter son, because the issues that they would be going through would be too similar. So I don’t think there’s a place for that this year, but that’s definitely something that’s out there.” Speaking of 90210, I hear the first new episode back is nuts. And I mean that in a good way.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: My understanding is that One Tree Hill is returning without Chad Michael Murray and Hillarie Burton. Is there any truth to this? –Kirsten
Ausiello:
Well, based on the rather odd video statement she released, Hillarie certainly wants us to think she’s leaving. I’ll believe it when I see her clean out her dressing room. Regarding CMM, it’s no secret that he’s ready to move on, but, again, no final decision has been made. BTW, only two Tree Hill regulars are officially on board for next season: Bethany Joy Galeotti and Jackson Brundage.

Question: Please tell me there is still hope for Dan and Serena? –Adam
Ausiello:
If I did, I’d be lying. Exec producer Stephanie Savage confirms that Derena is dunzo. “I will tell you — and you can tell [everyone else] — that they do not get back together as a couple.”
