Spoiler: Ask Ausiello

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: Can you do me a huge favor and give me some Gossip Girl scoop pertaining to Blair-Serena? I’m dying to know if my favorite frenemies will be loving or hating each other this season. —Sally
Ausiello:
They’ll start out loving each other, but by November, the hate is on! What triggers the war? Let’s just say Blair doesn’t follow the bros before hos belief system (or, in this case, hos before bros).

Question: Did I miss your annual list of what to watch and what to avoid among new shows this fall? I learned long ago that if you love a show, I’ll probably love it. And if you hate it, I’ll probably hate it, too. —Melissa
Ausiello:
Nope, you didn’t miss it. I decided to publish it a little later than usual to maximize creative opportunities and deliver the audience the best list possible. I think you’ll agree it was worth the wait:

Take It: Modern Family, Melrose Place, The Good Wife, Community, Cougar Town, FlashForward, V, and The Vampire Diaries.
Take It or Leave It: Bored to Death, Accidentally on Purpose, Trauma, The Beautiful Life, and The Middle.
Leave It: Mercy, Brothers, and Hank.

Question: Will Naomi ever find out that Annie was not the one who slept with Liam on the night of the prom on 90210? —Gia
Ausiello:
Yes, but not until later in the season. In other 90210 news, California University makes a comeback in episode 5 when Naomi starts planning for life after high school. And by planning I mean seducing the dean’s tree-hugging son (played by The O.C.’s Jonathan Trent).

***

Melrose Place stars Laura Leighton (Sophie, Beverly Hills 90210).

Cougar Town stars Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek).

The Vampire Diaries was created by Kevin Williamson (creator, Dawson’s Creek).

The Beautiful Life stars Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.)

Mercy stars Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina, Gossip Girl).

Jonathon Trent (with two Os, not an A) is hardly from The O.C. He played Kyle in 3 episodes.  I don’t even remember him.

Important Trivia Night Question!

5 09 2009

For more than a month now, we’ve been having trivia night on Tuesdays at 7 central time.

As of this Tuesday, the new teen drama TV season will begin with the season 2 premiere of 90210.

I doubt anyone wants to play trivia instead of or while watching 90210.

My first instinct is to move it to another night then.  Mondays are obviously out because of One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl.  But I’m sure many of you also have must-see shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well.

I don’t think it’s fair to any of us to do it Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

So here are my questions:

Is there a night you’d want to have trivia?

Should it still be Tuesday nights, just before 90210 starts?

Or should trivia just be something we do in the off-season?

Please comment with your thoughts so I know how to proceed!

What’s YOUR Top 10? Part 2

2 09 2009

So, as you’ve noticed by now, I like doing a series of posts and finding YouTube videos to include.

But everytime I go on YouTube, I get lost in the sea of amazing clips and fan-made tributes, trailers and collections.  The Related Videos feature will one day be the death of me.

Honestly, it can be exhausting going through video after video to find the very best. So I’m going to turn it over to you.

I asked this in early July, but didn’t get very many responses.  Let’s change that this time!

Below are a bunch of categories/ideas and I want you to find your favorite videos to support them.

1. ____’s Top Kisses (example: Dylan and Kelly’s top kisses)

2. Movie Trailer for _____ (example: Movie trailer for Leyton)

3. Show X as Movie Y Style (example: One Tree Hill, The Notebook style)

4. ____’s Funniest Quotes/Scenes (example: Blair’s funniest scenes)

5. _____’s Best Moments (example: The O.C.’s best moments)

6. Show X Alternate Universe (example: Summer and Nathan)

7. ____’s Best Quotes/Scenes (Dawson’s best quotes)

There’s so much good stuff out there and my only regret is there isn’t time to watch it all.

Help a gal out, will ya?

Official Announcement for Dawson’s Creek: The Complete Series

1 09 2009

Last week TVShowsonDVD.com reported that the Dawson’s Creek Complete Series set would be released November 10.  As expected, they were right–and now they have more information to share.

This screenshot comes DIRECTLY from their Web site. For the full story, click the link.

DC news 3

Some thoughts…

1. Interesting choice not include Kerr Smith (Jack) on the cover art and what we can see from the inside art.  Yes, there was a core four but it really became a core five for a lot of viewers.  What do you think?

2. A little disappointing but not surprising that most of the extras aren’t new.

3. The new ones seem interesting–but we all know you can play Dawson’s Creek trivia anytime with me!

4. Not clear if the episodes have the original music, or the edited soundtracks that appear on the individual season sets.

5. Not clear if the “bonus CD” is a new compilation or one of the previously released CDs.

6. Interesting that it mentions an official Web site.  I assume they are referring to DawsonsCreek.com, but I don’t see how that counts as an extra.  It also hasn’t been updated in a few years.

7. Not clear if *all* the deleted scenes from prior sets, including the extended version of the series finale, will be included.  If it’s not, I highly suggest you still purchase that disc separately.

8. I wonder if any of the cast will comment on the set as we near the release date.  I’m sure someone from somewhere will ask them about.

10. I CAN’T WAIT TO BUY IT!

  • EW.com is calling Aaron Spelling (executive producer, Beverly Hills 90210) the “god of guilty-pleasure TV.”
  • Laura Leighton (Sophie, Beverly Hills 90210) is on the cover of TV Guide Magazine.  The issue is also chock-full of teen drama goodness.
  • Well, One Tree Hill did end up filming that bridge scene. This article on it is a lot more spoilish, as are these photos.
  • There’s a new One Tree Hill podcast, this one featuring Shantel Van Santen (Quinn).
  • Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) has a new blog post over at SoGoPro.

Exclusive: Colin Fickes on Playing Jimmy Edwards, One Tree Hill’s School Shooter

30 08 2009

Colin Fickes made teen drama history when he starred on One Tree Hill as Jimmy Edwards, a high school outcast turned school shooter.  The storyline remains one of the most-loved by critics and fans alike, giving Colin one of his career highlights.

Colin was kind enough to provide an inside look at the making of “With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept,” the 16th episode of One Tree Hill’s third season.

TeenDramaWhore: Years before you started on One Tree Hill, you appeared on two episodes of Dawson’s Creek (Episode 2.3, Alternative Lifestyles and Episode 2.9, The Election).  How did that come about?

Colin Fickes: First off, thank you for taking the time to interview me!  I grew up in Raleigh, NC doing community theater and I’d audition for projects that came through NC.  I had a wonderful agent in Raleigh who would submit young actors in the area for various TV and film projects. They were seeing people in LA and NC for the role of Kenny Reiling, and I was lucky enough to get to audition and subsequently land the part.

TDW: On One Tree Hill, you were introduced in the first few episodes and then were off-canvas until season three in 2006.  What was your reaction when you found out a) they were bringing you back and b) what the storyline was?

Fickes: I was completely shocked when I found out that Mark Schwahn wanted to reintroduce the character of Jimmy Edwards.  I remember getting called into his office on the Warner Brothers lot, having no clue what the meeting would entail.  He pitched me his brilliant idea, and I immediately said yes.  I knew that it would be a tough few weeks of preparation and filming, but I was up for the challenge.  I enjoy playing interesting character roles, and where he wanted to go with Jimmy Edwards was exactly where I wanted to be.

TDW: Was it difficult filming such an emotional storyline and/or difficult to keep it all a secret?

Fickes: It was definitely a challenge to go to those dark places and stay true to the character.  There are places inside of yourself you have to explore, and they aren’t necessarily pretty places.   The fact that there are people who feel the way Jimmy must of felt made me strive to be as authentic and honest as possible.  My hope was that if people could see themselves mirrored in the character, they would also see the hope and optimism in there too. That they could see they weren’t alone and that it would, or could, all be okay. The fact that I had pretty much locked myself away for those weeks leading up to filming, I really didn’t have time to worry about keeping the story line a secret.  The twist didn’t really have anything to do with my character and his circumstances, so I didn’t really focus on that part.

TDW: Allison Scagliotti (Abby) told me that you guys didn’t know the ending until it was nearly time to shoot it.  How did you react when you found out your character’s fate?

Fickes: I knew my characters fate from the get go.  What we didn’t know was that Dan [Paul Johansson] would show up and shoot Keith [Craig Sheffer].  I think I was too busy learning lines and finding character to worry too much about the twist.  It was pretty shocking though, yeah?

TDW: How does it feel to know your character was the key to so many critical storylines that followed and still occur?

Fickes: To know that Jimmy Edwards life wasn’t in vain and that he affected so many people, hopefully for the better, is a good thing.  I think it’s indicative of real life.  People can come into our lives and shape our courses, even if it is only for a brief amount of time

TDW: What kind of response did you get when the episode aired?

Fickes: The response has been incredibly heartfelt.  When people take the time to write letters, or stop me on the street to tell me how that episode affected them, it truly moves me.  It makes it seem all worth it.  I think that’s why we make art.  To connect and feel.

TDW: Are you still recognized for the role?

Fickes: I am.

TDW: Do you keep in touch with any of the cast?

Fickes: I don’t really.  Not as much as I’d like to anyway.  Had dinner with Hilarie [Burton, Peyton] and some mutual friends a year or so ago, and talk to Lee [Norris, Mouth] every now and then, but that’s about it.

TDW: What projects are you currently working on?

Fickes: At the moment I’m developing a screenplay and a short film with a friend of mine.  Had an independent film called “The New Twenty” come out on DVD and VOD not too long ago.  Trying to keep the dream alive.

Come back next Sunday for another exclusive interview!
