RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Jorja in Boise, Idaho: Loved the ScrubsCougar Town casting scoop! Any other stars interested in coming on the show?
Well, Bill Lawrence has asked his cast if they have any friends who want to guest star, and Busy Philipps tells her famous bestie may be on board! “Michelle Williams and I were talking about how hilarious it would be if she came on and played my sister,” she laughs. “I don’t think her agents are going to go for it though.” Um, we are! A Dawson’s Creek reunion is long overdue, don’tcha think? I wonder what that Joey girl is up to?

Benny in Rhode Island: On Gossip Girl, what’s the deal with Serena’s new love interest? Does this mean Serena-Dan and Serena-Nate are over?
I’m told that the Dan-Serena-Nate triangle is definitely not over. The new squeeze is played by Sam Page and he isn’t the kind of guy she usually dates. Thoughts? Which guy are you rooting for?

On 90210, can you say who the guy who is going to come out of the closet is? Will he have a love interest? Also, what’s up with the rapist teacher guy? Is he out?
No, I can’t name the gay character (sorry—I’m glad you asked, but I can’t tell!) but I can tell you he definitely will have a love interest, and actor Kyle Riabko has been cast to fill the tole. As for Mr. Cannon, I’m told he’ll be Silver’s senior advisor. Dun dun dun.

Brandon: Anything else on 90210?
How about an Entourage-ish crossover? Naomi is going throw a crazy-lavish 18th birthday party early in the season and Adrian Grenier‘s band Honey Brothers has officially been named the house band. Pretty cool, huh?

Heather: Anything on True Blood? Will Joe Manganiello be back on One Tree Hill at all?
He told us he’d love to, and he has the space in his schedule, but I’m told there’s no talk right now of him returning, sorry! But at least you get to seen him scantily clad in an upcoming ep of True Blood…Which some of you probably won’t hate.

Zach in Santa Clara, Calif.: What is the deal with the two universes on Fringe and what does it mean for Joshua Jackson that Peter doesn’t have an alternate?
You can file this under no good, very bad news: Josh is only in every other episode. The artist formerly known as Pacey Witter himself told us he isn’t in the season premiere and he’s not in any of the odd-numbered episodes. Blasphemy! Why are the powers that be doing this to us, you ask? We spoke with his co-star Lance Reddick who spilled that, “Every other episode is going to be either one universe or the other. So, they’re going to be alternating universes at least for the first half of the season.” On the bright side, at least Josh now has more time to plan next year’s Pacey-Con, and that upcoming guest stint on The Vampire Diaries.

Notes:

Busy Philipps, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson all starred on Dawson’s Creek as Audrey, Jen and Pacey, respectively. And Joey was played by Katie Holmes.

Nikita

8 06 2010

In addition to Hellcats, the folks at The CW were kind enough to send me a screener of their other new series, Nikita.

The show resolves around Nikita, a former assassin who used to be part of Division, one of the government’s top secret, um, divisions.  When she falls in love with a civilian, she flees the organization and her lover is killed. She spends 3 years in hiding before resurfacing with the goal of destroying Division.

Like Hellcats, Nikita opens with the title character, played by Maggie Q, narrating. The exposition continues in another scene, where Nikita reveals to her foster dad what she’s been up to since she last saw him. I’m big on flashbacks and I love that it allowed us to see Nikita in a vulnerable state, since she’s pretty much kicking ass and taking names the rest of the time. Which is something I don’t quite understand. She wants to stop Division, stop them from killing people, but to do so…she has to kill people.

The biggest bright spot for me was the cast. Maggie Q is not only stunning but talented, both of which were made clear during her brief appearance at The CW Upfront. I had never seen Lyndsy Fonesca in anything before and she blew me away. Shane West is as handsome as ever. I could watch him in anything. And Melinda Clarke (Julie, The O.C.) seems to be channeling Mrs. Cooper-Nichol a little bit, which is a win in my book. (Check out my interview with Clarke for her thoughts on the show.)

Throughout the pilot, though, I felt like I was watching a FOX show. Perhaps a female-driven version of 24.

Nikita is part action drama, part psychological thriller. Neither appeal to me.

I’m not big on violence. I’m not big on mind games.

And then the twist came.

At the end.

And while I won’t reveal it, I will say it left me intrigued. Intrigued enough to check out episode two when the time comes?

I don’t know yet. I’m still processing.

A premiere date for Nikita hasn’t been announced yet but it will air Thursdays in the fall after The Vampire Diaries.

I have to note, though, that Nikita won’t be covered extensively on this site since it is not a teen drama. I will continue to include it as I have thus far: when there’s something relevant to Clarke or executive producer McG (executive producer, The O.C.) or when there’s some other teen drama connection.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Boyd in Maui: Any word on whether or not Joshua Jackson will really guest star on Vampire Diaries?
Not yet, but another Dawson‘s alum has enlisted my help in securing a spot on Vampire Diaries, and this time Life Unexpected‘s Kerr Smith is the culprit. “When you interview Kevin today, will you ask him?,” he asked me at The CW Upfronts. “I would love to play a vampire!” Hope Kev’s taking notes!

Breanne in New York City: I’m such a fan of the Huge novels, but am a little ambivalent about the new ABC Family series. Any words of encouragement?
My advice to you is to go in with an open mind, and know that Huge is not exactly the same as the novels you know and love. That said, it’s fun summer fare and definitely something to fill the void while all your other faves are MIA. And Gina Torres (of Angel and Firefly fame) is absolutely fab in one of the few adult roles on the show.

Notes:

Kevin refers to Dawson’s Creek creator and TVD EP Kevin Williamson. Jackson and Smith, of course, played Pacey and Jack, respectively, on Dawson’s Creek.

Torres played Gabrielle on Gossip Girl. Huge also stars Zander Eckhouse, son of James Eckhouse (Jim, Beverly Hills 90210).

The CW Upfront Videos

22 05 2010

Below are some videos I took outside and inside The CW upfront.

Truth be told, I don’t know if I was allowed to do this. I guess it was technically a private event, even though all the information given out was free to be printed by the media. There also wasn’t any announcement that no recording devices could be used and plenty of people had their digital cameras and cell phones out at varying points. Still, I won’t be surprised if YouTube pulls these down for copyright violations. And If The CW asks me to take them down, I will oblige.

Bottom line: watch while you can.

Come back Sunday for (extremely) brief, exclusive videos with Zuzanna Szadkowski (Dorota, Gossip Girl), Life Unexpected’s Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek) and Hellcats’ Matt Barr (Ian “Psycho Derek” Banks, One Tree Hill).

Special thanks to Gina for helping me through some technical difficulties!
