Fun Fact

16 08 2009

Occasionally, bit actors will end up playing different roles on the same show.

Here’s a few interesting examples, all from Beverly Hills 90210.

DAVID GAIL

Role 1: One episode as Tom, a bellhop that helps Brenda when she can’t afford a hotel room (season 1).

Role 2: Seven episodes as Stuart Carson, Brenda’s boyfriend/fiance (season 4).

RANDY SPELLING

Role 1: Three episodes as Kenny, Andrea’s assistant at the Beverly Hills Beach Club (season 3).

Role 2: Eleven episodes as Ryan Sanders, Steve’s brother (several seasons)

Bonus Role: The real-life son of 90210’s executive producer, Aaron Spelling, and sister to Tori Spelling (Donna)

CLIFF DORFMAN

Role 1: One episode as Michael, a guy who tries to hit on Kelly at a Halloween party–the same episode where a different guy tries to rape her (season 2)

Role 2: One episode as a photographer (season 4)

Role 3: Four episodes as Joe Patch, Kelly’s rapist (seasons 9 and 10)

Bonus Role: Co-starred in Friends Til the End with Shannen Doherty (Brenda)

JOSIE DAVIS

Role 1: One episode as Madeline, a lesbian with whom Steve and Brandon try to date (season 8 )

Role 2: Ten episodes as Camille Desmond, David’s girlfriend and Donna’s business partner (season 10)

This is by no means a comprehensive list–just some of my favorite examples!

Exclusive: Gossip Girl’s Zuzanna Szadkowski On Working For “Miss Blair”

16 08 2009

In just two seasons, Zuzanna Szadkowski’s Dorota has wiggled her way into the hearts of fans and critics alike.  Add webisodes to the mix, guest appearances on The Sopranos, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and (one of my favorite non-teen drama shows) Guiding Light, plus a hoarde of fans on Twitter, and you’ve got one successful lady.

Read on for our exclusive interview…

TeenDramaWhore: When you first auditioned for Gossip Girl, did you have any idea the role would evolve?

Zuzanna Szadkowski: I understood the character would probably recur. I was super excited to be a part of the show because there was a lot of buzz as to how fabulous it would be. I never imagined the extent to which playing Dorota would be such an incredible opportunity.

TDW: Have you been surprised by viewer reaction? Even television critics are praising Dorota!

Szadkowski: I am always very excited and surprised to meet a fan. I am blown away to be mentioned positively by viewers and critics. I am happy the audience gets a kick out of the character. The writers of the show create hysterical situations for Dorota and have developed her relationship with Blair-Leighton Meester] in such a delightful way.

TDW: How did Chasing Dorota come about?

Szadkowski: The mini episodes give us a look at the folks on the other side of [Upper East Side] glamour. It turns out there is quite a bit of drama among the serving ranks. The process of shooting Chasing Dorota was an absolute dream for me. Dorota has the cutest, most charming friends. I think the result is awesome.

TDW: Will be seeing more of Dorota in season 3, or will her personal life remain off-screen and on-line?

Szadkowski: We will just have to wait to see 😉

TDW: The Dorota accent actually runs in your family, right?

Szadkowski: I was born in Poland and moved to the US when I was young. Although I don’t speak English with an accent, my parents do… so I have used my mother as a model for Dorota’s way of speaking.

TDW: What can you tell us about the upcoming season?

Szadkowski: From what I can tell season 3 is full of major surprises.

TDW: What it’s like working with a cast predominantly younger than you?

Szadkowski: The cast is incredible. Everyone is sweet to me and, although they are younger, they are very professional and accomplished. I am inspired by each of them and learn a tremendous amount on set. I do keep hoping some of their gorgeousness might rub off on me.

TDW: Do you have a favorite memory or funniest story from the set?

Szadkowski: I had a lot of laughs working with Marlena who played Blair’s bulldog, “Handsome Dan” [ed. note: Episode 2.16, You’ve Got Yale]. That puppy was so cute, but very heavy. I got a major arm workout carrying her around.

TDW: Has it been fun interacting with fans via Twitter?

Szadkowski: I love connecting with fans on Twitter! I have received same really supportive tweets from fans and some funny Dorota art.

TDW: You were also on another one of my favorite shows recently, Guiding Light. Will you be back again before the series ends in September?

Szadkowski: Unfortunately, my role only spanned a couple of episodes. I wish Sister Angelica, the Bosnian nun, would make an encore appearance. I have to say that working on Guiding Light was very intense. I really respect their crew and actors for what it takes to pull off so many episodes with so much panache. I was very sad to hear that the series will end.

TDW: Are you working on any other projects?

Szadkowski: Currently enjoying shooting Season 3. I will let you know if anything new develops.

Season 3 of Gossip Girl premieres Monday, September 14.

Come back next Sunday for another exclusive interview!

For hints at which episodes will be included, click here, and if you want to be completely spoiled, click here.

Random Question

15 08 2009

There’s been much speculation of whether there will be a 90210-Melrose Place crossover.

When the original Melrose Place debuted, it was a spin-off to Beverly Hills 90210.

In January, it was reported that Ryan Eggold (Ryan, 90210) would be the one to crossover to Melrose Place.

In April, Eggold said he was talking to producers about it.

Then, in July, it was called a rumor.

And just this month, The CW’s Dawn Ostroff said a crossover was possible down the road.

Today, I was looking at Ryan Eggold’s IMDB page and it says he appears in the Melrose Place pilot.

So…what do you believe?

IMDB is usually correct and Ostroff could just be trying to surprise everyone.  Or, the IMDB could credit be based off the earlier “rumors.”

Thoughts?

Exclusive: All Bethany Joy Galeotti Twitter Accounts Are Fake

15 08 2009

As I and Christy-Anne at OTH Twitter Bugs have been saying all along, there is no Twitter account for Bethany Joy Galeotti (Haley, One Tree Hill).

I just got off the phone with her people–I will not be naming who specifically for the sake of privacy–who made it clear that Bethany is NOT on Twitter.

Furthermore, “she is not interested in any of that” and will not be getting an account anytime soon.

The only official place to hear from Bethany herself is her offiical site, although it will not be updated frequently as she is quite busy right now with The Notebook.

Let’s put this story to rest now, shall we?

Jason Priestley on Old Stars Appearing on the New 90210

14 08 2009

“The new show stands on it’s own two feet. I always thought it was a bit much, the constant parade of people from the original show. It’s just not necessary.”

Random Question

14 08 2009

I recently posted the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s You Belong to Me, saying they fit perfectly for Joey and Dawson from Dawson’s Creek.

Now, after watching this video for The O.C.’s Marissa and Ryan, I’ve come up with a task for all of you.

What would or should be the theme song for each of our teen drama couples?

Is there a song that fits overall or works for a particular storyline?

Feel free to post links to videos or lyrics.  For inspiration, check out the videos I used in my Essential Teen Drama Love Triangles posts and Favorite Couples posts.
