GOSSIP GIRL (The Grandfather)

  • Funny to see snow in what’s supposed to be New York when you know, in reality, there isn’t actually snow there now./
  • Ah, we finally meet the cousin!
  • Who refers to their grandfather as just…grandfather??
  • Does Serena really not know where Blair’s been all week?
  • Q1: “The only thing she wanted more than me.”–Chuck about Blair and Yale
  • Q2: “You need to give her time to lick her wounds.”  “Maybe I could lick them for her.”–Serena and Chuck
  • Barely remember this art dealer lady.
  • Guess they’re supposed to be watching March Madness?  At least they got the timing of that right.
  • One Tree Hill did this list thing with Naley in season 4.  But it’s still good to see Lily and Rufus again.
  • So Nate still has a limo?
  • Which side of the family is this?  Mom or dad’s?
  • Q3: “You said it was a mansion, not a country club!”–Dan (Why is he even there??)
  • Glad to see it’s not one of those old-old grandpas.
  • Always weird to hear Nate called Nathaniel.
  • Why are they clapping about Nate and his grandfather? What is there to clap about?
  • Oooh, Blair’s just in lingerie!  Guess she and Chuck talked and that’s why he’s there?
  • Eek!  Carter!
  • Q4: “Dishonest? Bad news?  He can’t be any worse than you.”–Blair about Carter to Chuck
  • I like seeing Chuck get stressed
  • 90210 promo with just Tori Spelling talking to the camera
  • Wonder if this Vanderbilt family is supposed to be related to the Long Island Vanderbilts…
  • Q5: “Do you know how exhausting it’s been being Blair Waldorf for the last 18 years?”–Blair
  • Unfortunately, Blair isn’t handling her wake-up call in the right way.
  • Hard to believe Blair never stole anything before.
  • Bet a lot of the younger viewers don’t know who Trent Reznor or Slash are.
  • Q6: “It’s going to take you 20 minutes to get through the 90s alone.”–Serena to Lily
  • No coats yet there’s snow on the ground?  Hmm…
  • Surprised they’re willing to get so dirty in their fancy sweaters and slacks.
  • Q7: “I feel like a Republican at the Kennedy compound.”–Vanessa (Yet another reference those teens and tweens won’t get.)
  • Q8: “The only thing Nate’s ever voted for is American Idol.”–Vanessa (Guess that one’s for them!)
  • Q9: “…goes down almost as easy as you did.”–Carter about Chuck (Double meaning??)
  • Q10: “What’s this?  Good cop, Bass cop?”–Carter
  • Wonder what Serena knows about Carter.  Forgot they were “involved.”
  • Q11: “I’m just a symptom of the disease.  Not the cause.”–Carter
  • LOL Rufus fits everything on to an index card.  And Lily only gives him one of her pages.
  • Is Lindsey a boy or a girl??
  • Jenny alert!  She’s been so MIA recently.
  • Q12: “It’s turned out to be less Gatsby and more Fight Club.”–Dan
  • Wonder if Dan and Vanessa will get together?
  • Q13: “I’m not going to play Where’s Waldorf all night.”–Chuck
  • LOL Dorota’s speaking polish!
  • Q14: “It’s old Miss Blair and new Miss Blair like it was old Miss Serena and new Miss Serena.”–Dorota
  • Q15: “Summer perogie tour 09.  I can’t wait.”–Nate
  • Q16: “Look like Polanski’s in town.”  (Yet another out-there reference.)
  • Woah!  Did not expect Blair to be pleading for admission to college!
  • Q17: “Gee, you’re right.  Why didn’t I update my Facebook page?!”–Blair
  • Like when Serena and Chuck team up.
  • There’s that weird Sims promo for OTH.
  • Love Serena’s super-straight hair!
  • Wow, there’s a security check at a family party!
  • Figures Rufus would find the other part of the list.
  • Really, Nate and Vanessa are just too different.
  • Vanessa believes in him, too.  Why didn’t she say that?
  • LOL Drunk Blair!
  • Q18: “I know you better than I know myself.”–Chuck to Blair
  • There’s the first Blair-Chuck kiss in how long??
  • Q19: “No, this is not the Blair I want.”  “That’s right.  And I never will be again.  Goodbye Chuck.”–Chuck and Blair
  • 90210 promo–there will be 8 new episodes in a row!
  • Wow, Blair and Nate started dating at 12 or 13?!
  • I like seeing Blair raw like this.
  • Like seeing Blair and Nate reconnect.  Wish we knew them pre-Serena involvement.
  • Yes!  Serena slapped Dan!  That was great!
  • Q20: “Why are you smiling?”  “I don’t know.  I’m mad but that was invigorating.”  “Glad you like hitting people. (Sees people take cell phone picture) Oh, well that’s wonderful.  I’ll be sure to check BitchSlappedAgain.com later.”–Dan and Serena
  • Q21: “I believe in you, too.  Just a different you.”–Vanessa to Nate (At least she said it.)
  • Really not cool of Nate to accept the position like that without telling Vanessa first.
  • Maybe Blair is seeing that she can rise again through Nate?  Or genuinely misses him and what they had?
  • Does Nate really want the internship or just family approval?
  • Q22: “Look’s like Nate’s traded in his summer of love for a one way ticket to his legacy.”–Gossip Girl
  • Q23: “I’m losing her.”  “Then fight for her.  She did for you.”–Chuck and Serena (Really touching!)
  • I will never stop hating Chuck’s bow-ties.
  • Why does Jenny think Nate and Vanessa belong together?  Afterall, she used to like him herself!
  • Couldn’t Chuck just walk up the stairs if he wanted to?
  • What does he see?  Ack!  Nate’s jacket!
  • Promo: Looks like more Chuck-Blair-Nate-Vanessa drama but also a lot more Jenny.

One Tree Hill reaction will be up later this week!  In the meantime, read more speculation about CMM’s OTH status.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Anything new on Nick Lachey’s “One Tree Hill” episode? -Cat
Yes. It’s not just an episode, it’s now an arc. The former newlywed was originally scheduled to appear just once, but I hear show creator Mark Schwahn asked Nick to stick around an extra week and he agreed.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Maggie in Birmingham, Ala.: Can you shed any light on this hectic One Tree Hill situation?
Despite Chad Michael Murray‘s claim that, “They haven’t even called me up to say, ‘Hey we want you back…nothing,’ ” CMM’s people are in negotiations with the One Tree Hill studio. Sounds like we can all brace ourselves for a cliffhanger ending to season six.

Tamara in New York City: Gossip Girl fan here. I want Blair and Chuck scoop!
Tonight’s C-B kiss (yes, kiss!) on Gossip Girl is wildly hot and happens in the midst of a totally classic Bluck confrontation scene. You could even call it Blucking up against a wall! Truly, if your devotion to the Chair relationship includes any kind of tolerance for “angst,” this is the episode for you. As for you Chuck-Blair hard-liners (you want it and you want it now), the kiss is not the kind of loving reconciliation you’re hoping for. In fact, by the end of the episode, Blair and Nate’s new thing is well underway. Sad face.

Samantha in Pomona, Calif.: How about some scoop on Rufus and Lily for once!
Rufus and Lily are giving Gossip Girl a Lost-style TiVo moment. They decide to make lists of their past sexual assignations, and Lily’s list includes such rock star names as Slash and Trent Reznor. Save the screengrabs as a keepsake checklist for when the show-not-called-Lily premieres!

Mike: Any news on what’s up for Nate on Gossip Girl?
Nate’s the center of tonight’s episode, and hey, it turns out that he’s actually New York political royalty. And as Spider-Man and the Kennedys already know, with great power comes great responsibility but not enough time for loved ones. Will Nate’s family obligations mean the end of his love affair with V? Tune in tonight to find out!

Steve in Santa Monica, Calif.: What’s James Van Der Beek up to these days? I miss him on the small screen.
The former Dawson’s Creek hottie will appear on the April 6 episode of Medium as “a very strange” son of a mother who’s gone missing. We love it when Dawson goes dark. Did you see him in Criminal Minds a few years back? Creepy-sexy cool! (Added bonus for this episode, Amanda Detmer guest stars as Joe’s sister. Yay!) In other guest star news, Rumer Willis appears in the episode “The First Bite Is the Deepest.” What we love about that is that show runner Glenn Gordon Caron gets to work with the daughter of the star of one of his biggest shows, Bruce Willis (Moonlighting). Cool, huh?

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl and More

23 03 2009
  • There’s a very bizarre video on YouTube where Chad Michael Murray (Lucas, One Tree Hill) says he’s not coming back next season–because the execs don’t want him to!  That seems very strange to me so I don’t know what to believe.  Apparently neither does E!Online.
  • There’s a Q & A with Austin Nichols (Julian, One Tree Hill) and some other new stuff posted on Southern Gothic Productions blog.
  • PEOPLE has a story on Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) celebrating her son’s second birthday.
  • Luke Perry (Dylan, Beverly Hills 90210) will appear in the same miniseries as James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek).
  • Jessica Lowndes (Adrianna, 90210) and Adam Gregory (Ty, 90210) are no longer together.
  • The New York Post has an article on all the real-life Gossip Girl hook-ups.
  • SoapNet is planning to air, in early April, what they think are the four best episodes of The O.C.  Right now they have the final sixteen on their Web site.

New episodes tonight!

23 03 2009

How nice is it to have new episodes two weeks in a row?  I know I’m loving it!

Here’s what you can expect tonight:

Gossip Girl (8pm)

One Tree Hill (9pm)

Check back for my reaction post!

News Roundup: 90210, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and More

22 03 2009
  • Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills, 90210) has joined the cast of a CW pilot called Body Politic.
  • The March 27th issue of Entertainment Weekly has a “first look” at Tori Spelling as Donna on 90210.
  • Dustin Milligan (Ethan, 90210) and Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210) may be a couple in real life.
  • The cast of 90210 attended a wrap party in celebration of their first season.
  • Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) is the cover story in the March issue of LA Direct.
  • The Boston Globe has a short Q & A with Zuzanna Szadkowski (Dorota, Gossip Girl).
  • Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek) is getting divorced.
  • Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) is the only teen drama star still left in the Alpha Male Madness competition.
  • There’s a bunch of pictures of Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) in his Southland cop uniform.
  • Jeri Ryan (Charlotte, The O.C.) has joined the cast of Law & Order: SVU.

YouTube Video of the Week

22 03 2009

If you just started watching One Tree Hill in season 5, you might’ve been a bit confused by the exchange between Dan and Deb in last week’s episode.

For the first time since Dan was released from prison, he and Deb confronted each other about their respective roles in Keith’s death.  To help this scene make sense to new viewers, watch the clips below.

Destruction of  a Man (ignore the last few slides)

Wrong Choice

Now rewatch that part of last week’s episode, and things should be clearer, especially since we’ll see this come up again this week.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, The O.C. and More

20 03 2009
  • This could make teen drama cross-over history!  Apparently Josh Schwartz is thinking about including an ’80s era Kirsten and Jimmy from The O.C. on the Gossip Girl spin-off as friends of Lily.
  • Korbi at Zap2it has a preview clip of Monday’s Gossip Girl.
  • Tons of fans showed up where One Tree Hill is filming, presumably, Lucas and Peyton’s wedding.
  • President Obama briefly mentioned Gossip Girl in a recent Town Hall session.
  • Austin Nicholas (Julian, One Tree Hill) reads from The Fountainhead, one of his favorite books, in a video on the Southern Gothic Productions blog.
  • Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) says being on the show didn’t leave him time to “grow up.”
  • Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210) will star in a movie about an all-black unit of the army serving in World War II.
  • Finally watched the Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion that aired on BIO in February.  Turns out, it WAS the same special that aired in 2003.  Despite the description saying it would include Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green, it didn’t as they weren’t in it then and obviously aren’t in it now.  A bit disappointing, but still fun to watch it again and relive the memories!

What year is it on One Tree Hill?

19 03 2009

If you say 2009, you’d be wrong.

Now we know I’m not very good at math, but hear me out.

The show began in 2003.

The gang graduated high school in 2007.

The show then jumped forward four years, making it 2011.

Now it’s one year later.

So what we’re really seeing, folks, is One Tree Hill in the year 2012.

Crazy, right?

****************************************

UPDATE

Your comments got me thinking.  I totally overlooked that junior and senior year of high school were two seasons and two years for us but technically only one year each in Tree Hill.

So a revised Tree Hill timeline would look like this:

2003: Junior Year (Seasons 1 and 2)

2004: Senior Year (Seasons 3 and 4)

2008: College Graduation (not seen)

Now did the show pick up again for season 5 after graduation and therefore still in 2008?  And now it’s a year later, so it’s season 6 and 2009.  That would mean Tree Hill is right in the same time we are.

OR, is season 5 supposed to be a year after college, 2009, and now another year later means we’re in 2010?

You guys seem to think it’s 2010.  But maybe Mark Schwahn really thought it all out and it’s supposed to be the 2009 timeline so everything would still coincide.

Thoughts?

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and More

18 03 2009
  • Jossip has a very un-complimentary look at some CW actresses, including Shannen Doherty (Brenda, 90210), Jennie Garth (Kelly, 90210), Kelly Rutherford (Lily, Gossip Girl) and Mischa Barton (Sonja, A Beautiful Life).
  • Annie (Shenae Grimes, 90210) is getting a new enemy in Phoebe, to be played by Lily Collins.
  • JustJared has photos of the 90210 cast doing their Habitat for Humanity project.
  • Jessica Lucas (Kimberly, 90210) has been cast in the Melrose Place remake.
  • Photos surfaced of Blair (Leighton Meester) kissing Nate (Chace Crawford) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) in the same outfit.  E!Online is wondering if it’s just to throw fans off.  You decide.  Or just wait for the episode to air!  (A similar photo of Blair and Chuck is in the March 30th issue of PEOPLE.)
  • In the same PEOPLE issue, there’s also a tiny photo of Taylor Momsen (Jenny, Gossip Girl) and her “idol” singer Debbie Harry.
  • Also in that issue, Sebastian Stan (Carter, Gossip Girl) doesn’t confirm or deny that he’s engaged to Meester.  He just says “I don’t pay attention [to reports].  My friends trust my word above anything else they hear.”
  • Westwick is included in a TVGuide.com photo gallery of “Foreign Actors with Great American Accents.”
  • No Doubt will appear as Snowed Out in the May 11th episode of Gossip Girl as part of the Lily flashback.
  • Josh Schwartz talks about the Gossip Girl spin-off here but it’s nothing we don’t already know.
  • Nikki Reed (Sadie, The O.C.) says she goes to Jennie Garth’s (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210) house to play poker with her Twilight co-star and Garth’s husband, Peter Facinelli.
  • There’s a strange promo for next week’s One Tree Hill with the cast appearing as characters from The Sims.
  • The New York Post deemed student-teacher relationships on TV the “Pacey Witter Effect.”
