RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Question: Can you do me a huge favor and give me some Gossip Girl scoop pertaining to Blair-Serena? I’m dying to know if my favorite frenemies will be loving or hating each other this season. —Sally
Ausiello:
They’ll start out loving each other, but by November, the hate is on! What triggers the war? Let’s just say Blair doesn’t follow the bros before hos belief system (or, in this case, hos before bros).

Question: Did I miss your annual list of what to watch and what to avoid among new shows this fall? I learned long ago that if you love a show, I’ll probably love it. And if you hate it, I’ll probably hate it, too. —Melissa
Ausiello:
Nope, you didn’t miss it. I decided to publish it a little later than usual to maximize creative opportunities and deliver the audience the best list possible. I think you’ll agree it was worth the wait:

Take It: Modern Family, Melrose Place, The Good Wife, Community, Cougar Town, FlashForward, V, and The Vampire Diaries.
Take It or Leave It: Bored to Death, Accidentally on Purpose, Trauma, The Beautiful Life, and The Middle.
Leave It: Mercy, Brothers, and Hank.

Question: Will Naomi ever find out that Annie was not the one who slept with Liam on the night of the prom on 90210? —Gia
Ausiello:
Yes, but not until later in the season. In other 90210 news, California University makes a comeback in episode 5 when Naomi starts planning for life after high school. And by planning I mean seducing the dean’s tree-hugging son (played by The O.C.’s Jonathan Trent).

***

Melrose Place stars Laura Leighton (Sophie, Beverly Hills 90210).

Cougar Town stars Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek).

The Vampire Diaries was created by Kevin Williamson (creator, Dawson’s Creek).

The Beautiful Life stars Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.)

Mercy stars Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina, Gossip Girl).

Jonathon Trent (with two Os, not an A) is hardly from The O.C. He played Kyle in 3 episodes.  I don’t even remember him.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

What will happen with Nathan and Haley in Season 7? — Saderia
Will Rob Buckley ever be shirtless on One Tree Hill?Sarah
ADAM: Although it’s all kisses and rainbows for Naley when the season premiere starts, at the end of the hour something (or maybe someone) puts their happiness into serious jeopardy. And Sarah, shirtlessness abounds in the first episode: At least four sets of pecs and abs will be on display.

Please tell me that Navid and Adrianna stay together on 90210. They’re the cutest couple. — Quinn
MICKEY: For now, they’re still together, but this guy showing up doesn’t help matters. Anyway, Navid will have his hands full working on a blockbuster story for the West Beverly Blaze when a student overdoses, and Annie’s new boyfriend is implicated. It allows 90210 to have a “teaching moment,” just like its preachy predecessor did. Stay in school, kids!

Mickey’s Mega Rave: The “new” 90210 isn’t perfect, but I’m really digging the sullen, nerve-wracked Annie (Shenae Grimes), who may or may not be a murderer. Her downward spiral, which began Tuesday with a drunken cabana tryst with an upperclassman, continues next week when she finds herself at the center of a “sext” scandal. Poor Annie — love it!

Live-Blog: 90210 Season Premiere!

8 09 2009

Before You Watch, Read This: Season One Recap, Trevor Donovan Interview

For last season, I would do reaction posts for each episode.  This year I figured I’d step it up a notch with live-blogs.

Keep refreshing this page throughout the show for plot developments, quotes and commentary.

EPISODE 2.1: TO NEW BEGINNINGS

  • Previously on–as if this isn’t a season premiere?!  Weird.
  • Includes: Naomi/Liam, Adrianna/Navid, Naomi/Annie, Liam taken away Annie’s cliff-hanger
  • Naomi splashing around in water with some random OLDER dude.  Sketch.
  • She’s only fantasizing.
  • Back in school?  Nope, summer school.  And it’s over.  Silver’s pumped.
  • Q1: Suck it summer school–Naomi
  • Silver and Dixon = awkward!
  • Liking Silver’s shorter hair.
  • Q2: You just interuppted an ordinary moment by making it extremely awkward.–Silver to Naomi
  • Not feeling Adrianna’s super long hair.  Natural or extensions?
  • Hate the timing: in reality, school is just STARTING for everyone!

  • In the pool camera work = nauseating!
  • Adriana still with Navid
  • Q7: I’m so getting laid–Navid
  • Are those boogey boards?  Really?
  • Read recently that Michael Steger is 29 IRL.  He definitely looked young when I interviewed him.  Hmmm.
  • Love that Dixon is giving Navid advice on having sex.
  • Q8: “Like a sex jams cd?”–Navid
  • Q9: “Remember sex is more romantic for girls than it is for guys.”–Dixon
  • Wow, Navid just screamed “I’m so getting laid.”  That’s attrative.
  • Silver still freaking out about Dixon and Ethan.
  • At least Ethan is being mentioned.
  • Q10: Silver, I don’t know why you’re so stuck up on high school boys.–Naomi
  • Naomi likes man-hands.  TMI.  Silver agrees.
  • First Liam reference.
  • Moved out to Long Island?  New York Long Island?  My Long Island?!
  • Silver points out the obvious: no actual proof that Annie slept with Liam
  • Q11: I know she’s a rat.  But a skank? –Silver
  • What house is this?  Where is Casa Wilson?
  • Annie looks like she’s been crying.
  • So she knows she hit a guy.  And the guilt is getting to her?
  • Naomi sees her older man, Jason.
  • Whoops.  He has kids.  And he’s married to the older woman from before.
  • New 90210 opener: HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT.  Butchered the original 90210 theme song even more and doesn’t even show the cast.  As if we want to see just non-descript pictures of LA.  No thanks.
  • Promo: T-Mobile and the Girls of 90210.  More like a recap of last year.  They should’ve shown this first.
  • Naomi still concerned about Jason? Let it go.
  • Naomi wants to get back at him with the tennis instructor = Teddy (Trevor Donovan–see interview link above)
  • Trevor is actually like 30.  And he looks it.  I don’t know how we’re supposed to believe he’s in high school.
  • Q12: I’m very possessive when it comes to balls.–Naomi
  • Q13: I don’t do anything by the numbers.–Naomi
  • Teddy will be starting West Bev.
  • Q14: Flirt with her.  This whole Vicky Cristina Barcelona thing isn’t my thing.–Silver
  • Whoops.  Teddy and Adrianna know each other.   “Old boyfriend from summer camp.”
  • Tabitha doing a show in Las Vegas
  • Vague mention that this is a new house.  But why?
  • Harry and Debbie know Annie called the cops on the post-prom party.
  • Annie finds out the hit-and-run “John Doe” died.
  • Local promo for Gossip Girl and contest to win GG-inspired wardrobe.
  • No One Tree Hill promos so far.  Weird.
  • Too much Melrose Place.  But I guess it’s fair, since it’s debuting right after this.
  • Naomi “mind-boggled” by who Teddy is.
  • Adrianna says Teddy is all hers.
  • Nice that Naomi is concerned about her.
  • Valerie on BH90210 did the whole married-man-with-kids thing.
  • Text message for Silver from Ethan!  Curious to see how they handle this.
  • Annie confessing to Dixon?
  • Dixon guesses it’s about Liam, and them “sleeping together.”
  • Q15: I think you have a problem with apologizing.–Dixon
  • Dixon says he was in summer school because of Annie.  Um, what?  Was it punishment for the party?
  • Q16: Screw you, Dixon!–Annie
  • Q17: Screw you, too, Annie.–Dixon
  • Navid renting a cabana (for his sex night with Adrianna).  On the original show, they OWNED them.
  • Q18: The world doesn’t revolve around you, Annie.–Dixon
  • Jason kind of looks familiar.  Will have to look up the actor’s name later.
  • Do I detect an accent?
  • Jason wants Naomi to be his mistress but “be bigger than labels.”  And he uses the L-word!  Ridiculous.
  • Naomi confronting Annie.  Apparently this is the first time they’re talking since prom night.  Lackluster.
  • Q19: I may be a lot of things, but I am not a cheating skank.–Naomi
  • Dixon pulling the fake cough routine so Navid can steal cabana keys.
  • Navid has flowers.  Kinda sweet.
  • Adrianna introduces him to Teddy.  Bad timing!
  • Adrianna and Teddy have known each other since they were 8.
  • Dixon about to ask Silver to get back together and she just kisses him.  Very sweet!
  • Okay, that was the best scene yet!
  • Q20: I missed you.–Silver
  • Annie stuck there because Dixon has keys.  Didn’t realize that.
  • Meet Mark.  He’s drunk.  And he seems to know Annie from West Bev.
  • Annie starts drinking, too.  Pretty sure that caused part of her problems in the first place.
  • Everyone dirty dancing.  And line dancing.  Wowow.  How much time was wasted to coordinate that?
  • Woah!  Teddy took Silver’s phone and is reading her text from Ethan!  That is NOT COOL.
  • Text says Ethan is staying in Montana.  And that explains it.  Sigh.
  • Navid and Adrianna making out on beach.  In plain sight.
  • Navid wants to keep going, Adrianna wants to stop.
  • Navid babbles something about their “multi-faceted” love.
  • Q21: After sex, comes drama.–Adrianna
  • Adrianna seeking normalcy.  Someone should tell her normalcy doesn’t exist.
  • Navid obviously peeved, whether he admits it or not.
  • Cabana all directed for the sex night that won’t be.  It looks beautiful.  Sad.
  • Navid gave the keys to Mark!  And he’s with a very drunk Annie.
  • Will she lose her virginity to him?!
  • LOL Dixon said Silver has a “Rihanna-bob.”  That’s too funny.
  • Teddy tells Dixon about Ethan oops.
  • How would Teddy know that Silver’s “prickly”?
  • Teddy and Adrianna share a sultry dance…in front of a semi-drunk Navid.
  • Naomi going for the booze, too.
  • Whoops. Naomi spills to Navid that Adrianna has a past with Teddy.
  • And Teddy was apparently Navid’s first.
  • Q22: You never forget your first.–Navid
  • Q23: You and me, we’re done.–Dixon to Silver
  • Well, that lasted long.
  • Toasting marshmallows.  Mmmmm.
  • Wow, older woman says cabana weird.
  • Apparently it was the one Navid took the key for.  And apparently Mark and Annie trashed it.
  • Navid about to take the blame but Teddy steps up.
  • Spence Montgomery = Teddy’s father, who is famous
  • The older woman looks like a cross between Jen (where is she?!) and Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair (90210’s executive producer)
  • Q24: What the hell is a sex jams CD?–Teddy
  • Q25: Teddy, thanks a lot.  You just ruined my whole life.–Silver
  • I know it may feel like that but this is Silver being over-dramatic.  Then again, she does have a mental illness.  Hmmm.
  • Silver admits to choosing Dixon because she knew Ethan was staying in Montana.
  • Q26: It suddenly became clear.  Because Iwasn’t disappointed.  I was relieved.  And then I imagined what if Dixon moved across the country, and then I thought, if I lost Dixon, I wouldn’t be able to breathe.  And I can’t breathe.  I can’t breathe.–Silver
  • Quote of the episode for me!
  • Wait–did Annie sleep with Mark?  I guess it’s wait and see.
  • OK, so now it’s school-time.  How much time just passed? I missed it.
  • Silver vows to get Dixon back.  Dixon vows that he’s done and officially single.
  • Naomi still looking for a guy.  Some things never change.
  • Q27: I have something against you going from guy to guy to guy like this.–Silver
  • Q28: If I don’t have another guy to focus on, all I can think of is Liam.–Naomi
  • Woah! Liam’s back.  And staring at Naomi from afar.  Hot.
  • He tries to talk to her.  She walks away, panicked.
  • Cool breakdancers in the school courtyard.
  • Annie probably shouldn’t be behind a car…
  • Teddy’s car was the one that came up after Annie’s accident!  The sign: same back bumper and bumper sticker.
  • Mark took some sort of sexual picture of Annie.  It’s proof of something.  Sex?
  • Naomi sees it.
  • Q29: Is that naked girl Annie?
  • She sent it from Mark’s phone to his.
  • Q30: I have a feeling this is gonna be our year.–Naomi
  • Really sick of the “girl power walk” shot.
  • Preview: Naomi vows to make Annie’s life hellish and the picture of Annie makes it way around school.

You’ve read my thoughts. Now what did YOU think?

Exclusive: Trevor Donovan Discusses Joining 90210 as Teddy Montgomery

8 09 2009

Fact: Trevor Donovan is a hottie.  But will viewers think he fits right in with the 90210 cast?  You can decide for yourself tonight at 8pm eastern (and I’ll be live-blogging the premiere!) but first get to know him through my exclusive interview.

Trevor Donovan A

See, I told you he was hot!

TeenDramaWhore: How did you find out about the role of Teddy on 90210?

Trevor Donovan: My manager Michael Yanni set up an audition with David Rappaport for a totally different role and David thought I would be better for the role of Teddy and boom there you have it.

TDW: Were you familiar with the show before you auditioned?

Donovan: Very familiar.  I grew up watching the old 90210 and now I watch CW shows to familiarize myself with what’s out there.

TDW: How would you describe Teddy?

Donovan: Teddy is very likable and a fun guy to be friends with….he’s not fake, he’s pretty straight forward and likes to share his toys… and he has some pretty cool toys.

TDW: What can we expect from the character?

Donovan: Expect wave shredding… I’ll be doing some surfing this season, which I do myself…I’ve been surfing for over 15 years.  Also some hook ups and of course drama drama drama….oh and lots of fit beach bods.

TDW: How does it feel to play a character in high school when you are actually out of that age range?

Donovan: It’s a lot of fun……it’s like a do over….I was quiet and shy in high school… and not rich like Teddy Montgomery is.

TDW: Is it an ego boost or more strange than anything?

Donovan: A little of both…but at the end of the day …it’s acting… and the rest of the cast is great…all pro’s.

TDW: Does the working experience change knowing your castmates are a bit younger than you?

Donovan: Well I’m a pretty immature guy and most are not that much younger, so it works out well.. Ha ha ha..JK…  but seriously, when I get into playing a role….. I don’t let things like age difference get in the way… Instead I direct my focus on making the character I’m playing –Teddy Montgomery”–come to life and be interesting to watch…a pleasure to have in your living room 1x a week…..and more if you TiVo it.

TDW: According to reports, your character is a tennis star.  Are you skilled at the sport or did you have to learn?

Donovan: I’m skilled at a lot of sports, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, volleyball, baseball, football… you name it… but tennis….eh…they brought in a real pro to school me…..and wow….what a work out….but I’m getting there… I’m not whacking the ball over fences hundreds of feet away anymore.  Tune in to see my improved backhand, haha.

TDW: You appeared on more than 40 episodes of Days of Our Lives.  How is working on a daytime soap different from a primetime one?

Donovan: Soap operas are one take and 90 pages a day… It’s like a very very very intensive acting class….I left there feeling so confident and appreciative of the opportunity. It was a great experience.

TDW: What other projects are you working on?

Donovan: 90210 is full time……. But prior I had a role in Surrogates.  I play Tommy, the surrogate Bruce Willis owns –and the scene is a pivotal part in the movie for Bruce’s character.

TDW: Are you on Twitter?  There’s a lot of fake accounts for the 90210 cast; trying to clear up for my readers what’s real and what’s not.

Donovan: @TrevDon is mine.

Come back tonight for a live-blog of 90210’s season 2 premiere and come back again Sunday for another exclusive interview!

Get Ready for 90210 Season 2!

7 09 2009

We’re a day away from 90210’s season 2 premiere!

Here’s what you need to know about last season:

Annie and Dixon move to Beverly Hills, where father Harry is the principal of West Beverly High and mother Debbie is a photographer.

Popular girl Naomi loses longtime boyfriend Ethan when he decides to be with Annie instead.  When the relationship fails, Ethan falls for Silver.

Silver spends most of the season dating Dixon, though the relationship hits a rough spot when Silver struggles with bi-polar disorder.

Adrianna, Naomi’s best friend, recovers from a drug addiction only to find out she’s pregnant.  Boyfriend Navid, who isn’t the father, decides to stick by her side, though Adrianna ultimately gives the baby up for adoption.

Naomi’s attempt to win over the brooding Liam starts to work, until she finds out he slept with someone else.  Naomi assumes it’s Annie but it was actually her own sister, Jen.

Silver’s older sister and West Bev guidance counselor Kelly had a relationship with teacher Ryan, who started seeing Jen in the season finale.

Annie, disgusted by how everyone treats her, drives drunk and hits something…or someone!

Come back at noon tomorrow for an exclusive interview about the new season and then you’ll be all set for my live-blog of the premiere at 8pm eastern!

Exclusive: Randy Spelling on 90210’s Teen Drama Legacy

6 09 2009

Famous family aside, Randy Spelling made his own name for himself by playing not one but two (!) characters on Beverly Hills 90210.

In our exclusive interview, Randy reflects on growing up in the public eye and how acting remains in his heart, even after a career change.

TeenDramaWhore: On Beverly Hills 90210, you started off with a bit part in the season 3 summer episodes. You then transitioned to the character of Ryan, brother to Ian Ziering’s Steve. Who’s idea was it to change and expand role?

Randy Spelling: I started in 90210 playing Kenny, the assistant to Henry [James Pickens Jr.] at the Beverly Hills Beach Club.  My dad [Aaron Spelling] and sister [Tori Spelling] thought it would be fun for me to see if I liked acting or not.  Being 13 years old and in 8th grade, I got onto set and when I realized there was so much waiting around in between shots, I was so bored!!  I just wanted to be a kid and play, not wait around all day to say one line!  When I was actually serious about acting and had already been on another show for NBC called “Malibu Shores,” a part came up that was my age for Steve’s brother.  It was a natural fit and people weren’t too worried about anyone remembering me as Kenny, the geeky beach club assistant.

TDW: You appeared in less than 20 episodes but had some weighty storylines: dropping out of college, teen sex, family relationships, etc. One of the most memorable for me was the episode where your character got alcohol poisoning after drinking too much (Episode 6.26, Smashed). Do you have a favorite storyline or episode?

Spelling: I did have some weighty story lines in 90210.  That is what I loved about the show, because even though it was a soap-style primetime serial, 90210 really tried to address lots of issues that were and still are relevant to what kids go through.  I grew up watching 90120 and I learned some very important things from it.  I could never master the coolness of Dylan McKay [Luke Perry] though!   My favorite story line that I did was the one where I came home from school to visit Steve and Janet [Lindsay Price] and lied to them about how school was and what was really going on [ed. note: Episode 10.19, I Will Be Your Father Figure] .  I thought that in order to fit in and be accepted, I needed to do what was expected of me.  Ryan let the pressure get to him and he rebelled until, with Steve’s support, he went back to school [ed. note: Episode 10.20, Ever Hear The One About The Exploding Father?].  It was fun to transition from the little brother who always got told what to do into more of a man where I rebelled and made my own decisions.  It was also fun yelling at Ian!

TDW: You had very few scenes with your real-life sister, Tori.  Was this done purposefully?

Spelling: It wasn’t on purpose that my character didn’t have many scenes with my sister’s character, our story lines just didn’t cross that much.  It was really comfortable though when we were in scenes together.

TDW: You and Tori essentially grew up on the show, as it lasted for 10 years.  What is it like having that kind of record of your life?

Spelling: We did grow up for 10 years on the show, more for Tori than for me.  It is funny to have that record of your life on film.  But it is just like a song that you hear on the radio and it brings you back to a certain situation you were in.  When I think back to one of those episodes, it brings me back to where I was at the time.

TDW: Do you keep in touch with any of the cast?

Spelling: I do not keep in touch with any of the cast.  I was good friends with [Brian Austin Green, David].  We talk every once in a while; that is about it.

TDW: How do you think being on 90210 prepared you for your leading role on Sunset Beach?

Spelling: 90210 prepared me for my role on Sunset Beach only by watching the cast and their professionalism.  Working on a primetime series is so very different from daytime.  One is shot on film, one is shot on tape.  When I got used to doing daytime where we shot one episode, about 70 pages a day, it felt so slow to go back on 90210 where we did 7 pages a day!

TDW: Do you watch the new 90210?  What do you think your dad would say about it?

Spelling: I do not watch the new 90210.  I watched the first couple of episodes.  I liked it and I saw a lot of similarities to the old one, but much racier and current.  My dad would have liked it but I think he would be shocked at first about how much further they could take certain story lines and relationships then they did back in the first one.

TDW: What do you think is 90210’s legacy in the world of television and/or teen dramas?

Spelling: I think 90210 really paved the way for what a teen high school drama show is all about.  From high school, into college and then after, 90210 showed what it was like growing up and what a rite of passage was all about.  I was shocked when I heard they were remaking it.  I thought it was pretty remarkable considering BH 90210 just went of the air in 2000.  That is impressive and shows how popular it really was.

TDW: You made a massive career change.  How did that come about and why? Can you explain what exactly you do now?

Spelling: I now currently work as a life coach.  I grew up in an entertainment family and from early on, I figured that was all I could ever do.  I have always loved spirituality, psychology and the way that people work and function.  After my dad passed away, I looked around and realized that I wasn’t being fulfilled spiritually as much as I wanted to be.  Someone suggested life coaching.  I took a seminar to see if it was something I was interested in.  I figured, I will sign up for 2-year schooling, [and] even if I don’t become a life coach, the skills would be amazing to possess.  It is a rigorous self-exploration process as well.  In the midst of working with people, I realized how much I love working with other people, facilitating them to find happiness, peace and purpose as well as helping them shift certain things that were holding them back.  To be a part of someone else’s journey in this way and to reflect their light back unto them is what I am passionate about! I help empower people to find what it is that is in their heart.  If there are blocks or things holding them back, we identify them and move through them so they can be their full potential.  My coaching can help with relationships, career, life purpose, spirituality, feeling stuck, addiction, etc… You can find out more at  www.randyspelling.com.

TDW: Would you ever go back to acting?

Spelling: Acting is something that is in my heart and such a fun, creative outlet.  I will never close the door on acting because it is fun for me.  There is a possibility of seeing me on screen again, as long as it is something I am passionate about.  My philosophy is this:  If I feel passionate about something or if it sounds fun, then that is where I will gravitate towards.  These two things are my compass that guides me in life.

Come back this Tuesday at noon for a special exclusive, an interview with 90210’s newest cast member.

And don’t forget: 90210’s second season premieres Tuesday at 8pm eastern.  I’ll be live-blogging it!
