News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl and The O.C.

1 06 2010
  • Despite some outlets looking favorably on the network, The TV Addict gave The CW a C- for the season.
  • The CW sent me screeners for Hellcats, featuring Matt Barr (Ian “Psycho Derek” Banks, One Tree Hill) and Robbie Jones (Quentin, One Tree Hill), as well as Nikita, featuring Melinda Clarke (Julie, The O.C.). After I watch them, I will post some thoughts, like I did for Life Unexpected.
  • Encore has an interview with Mike Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill). Have you read my interview with him?
  • Starpulse has an interview with Tyler Hilton (Chris, One Tree Hill).
  • TV Fanatic gave 90210 a C for the season, making quite a few great points about the show’s flaws and what it needs to work on.
  • You know all those questions we had after the 90210 season finale? On why promised or hinted to things never actually happened? E! Online has some answers and I, for one, am pissed off. (Of course, that’s nothing new for me in regards to this show but still…)
  • Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 9021o) will have a recurring role on ABC’s Scoundrels, which premieres June 20. Thanks to Jethro and Gina for alerting me to the news. Not sure what this means for Call Me Fitz, if anything.
  • The Stir has an interview with Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210).
  • Zap2it has an interesting article debating whether the Gossip Girl season 2 finale or season 3 finale was better.
  • McG (executive producer, The O.C.) will produce the film The DUFF, based on a novel of the same name.

  • Mediaweek has an interesting article evaluating the broadcast networks, based on their past performance and fall schedules. They had pretty much all positive things to say about The CW, though none of our teen dramas were specifically mentioned.
  • OnTheRecord.com has a spoilish interview with Penn Badgley (Dan, Gossip Girl) but it doesn’t seem to contain anything we don’t already know.
  • FanBolt has an interview with Tyler Hilton (Chris, One Tree Hill). There’s a decent amount of OTH talk.
  • Ian Ziering (Steve, Beverly Hills 90210) got married over the weekend, and the wedding was attended by several co-stars, including Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210), Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210) and Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210).

  • Zap2it has “12 steps to a better One Tree Hill,” and I largely agree with their gripes and suggestions.
  • Korbi and TV.com have interviews with James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill). Have you read my interview with him yet?
  • E! Online has an interview with Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill).
  • Examiner.com has an interview with Stephen Colletti (Chase, One Tree Hill).
  • The CW Source posted an interview with Tyler Hilton (Chris, One Tree Hill). Big oops: Hilton had no idea who Everly was (that’s the band Bethany Joy Galeotti [Haley, One Tree Hill]).
  • The News, a publication at the prep school Choate, has an interesting article on the negative effects of shows like Gossip Girl and 90210.
  • Kind of love this diagram of Gossip Girl hook-ups.
  • New York Magazine has a pretty funny piece on Gossip Girl and…chest hair.
  • MTV has an interview with Billy Baldwin (William, Gossip Girl).
  • NBC Chicago has an interview with AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210).
  • John Schneider (Jeffrey, 90210) will star in the film Doonby.
  • Southland, starring Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) and Michael Cudlitz (Tony, Beverly Hills 90210), has been renewed for another season on TNT.

  • WPIX has an interview with Matthew Settle (Rufus, Gossip Girl). Warning: they show a clip from this Monday’s episode.

  • Kansan.com has an interview with Tyler Hilton (Chris, One Tree Hill).
  • The Back-Up Plan, featuring Danneel Harris (Rachel, One Tree Hill) and Linda Lavin (Sophie aka The Nana, The O.C.), opens in theaters tomorrow.

Random Thought

10 08 2009

I don’t recall what made me start thinking about this but One Tree Hill’s Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) has had the fewest relationships of any long-time teen drama character.

She has only had sex with one guy, Nathan (James Lafferty)–but to be fair, Donna (Tori Spelling, Beverly Hills 90210) and Joey (Katie Holmes, Dawson’s Creek) are close behind with just 3 sexual partners.

Donna and Joey, however, also had several relationships.  Haley had just one with Nathan and, as far as we know, kissed a bit with Chris Keller (Tyler Hilton).

Other than that, she hasn’t been romantically or sexually linked to anyone else.  Nathan, by contrast, can be linked to–whether he likes it or not– Peyton, Taylor, Brooke  and Nanny Carrie.  The other long-time characters in Tree Hill and on the other shows have had several relationships as well.

Haley is pretty unique, no?  Then again, she did get married and have a baby by the time she graduated high school…
