News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and More

  • Jossip has a very un-complimentary look at some CW actresses, including Shannen Doherty (Brenda, 90210), Jennie Garth (Kelly, 90210), Kelly Rutherford (Lily, Gossip Girl) and Mischa Barton (Sonja, A Beautiful Life).
  • Annie (Shenae Grimes, 90210) is getting a new enemy in Phoebe, to be played by Lily Collins.
  • JustJared has photos of the 90210 cast doing their Habitat for Humanity project.
  • Jessica Lucas (Kimberly, 90210) has been cast in the Melrose Place remake.
  • Photos surfaced of Blair (Leighton Meester) kissing Nate (Chace Crawford) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) in the same outfit.  E!Online is wondering if it’s just to throw fans off.  You decide.  Or just wait for the episode to air!  (A similar photo of Blair and Chuck is in the March 30th issue of PEOPLE.)
  • In the same PEOPLE issue, there’s also a tiny photo of Taylor Momsen (Jenny, Gossip Girl) and her “idol” singer Debbie Harry.
  • Also in that issue, Sebastian Stan (Carter, Gossip Girl) doesn’t confirm or deny that he’s engaged to Meester.  He just says “I don’t pay attention [to reports].  My friends trust my word above anything else they hear.”
  • Westwick is included in a TVGuide.com photo gallery of “Foreign Actors with Great American Accents.”
  • No Doubt will appear as Snowed Out in the May 11th episode of Gossip Girl as part of the Lily flashback.
  • Josh Schwartz talks about the Gossip Girl spin-off here but it’s nothing we don’t already know.
  • Nikki Reed (Sadie, The O.C.) says she goes to Jennie Garth’s (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210) house to play poker with her Twilight co-star and Garth’s husband, Peter Facinelli.
  • There’s a strange promo for next week’s One Tree Hill with the cast appearing as characters from The Sims.
  • The New York Post deemed student-teacher relationships on TV the “Pacey Witter Effect.”

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Cedric in New York: Any scoop on the Gossip Girl spinoff?
Krysten Ritter
, who plays Lily’s big sis, Carol Rhodes, tells us “It’s set on the Sunset Strip, and I am down for whatever. I’m excited to see what they do with my hair. Like Tess McGill, Working Girl hair.” Ah, break out the Aqua Net!

Jesse in San Francisco, Calif.: Will Luke Perry finally show up on 90210?
Highly doubtful, according to Jennie Garth. At the Costume Designer Awards, we asked her when he would be on the show, and Jennie jumped right in, saying, “I don’t think he is.” Bummer.

Laetitia from Paris: Salut, Kristin, I heard that Peyton from One Tree Hill is gonna lose her baby in a car crash? She’s my favorite character. Please tell me it’s not true.
I love that your favorite character is one you haven’t even met yet! I have a soft spot for Peyton and Lucas’ spawn, too. (Or wait, did you mean Peyton is your fave?) Anyhoo, regardless, a source tells me this: “There is a car crash, but Peyton will not lose the baby because of that. She will be OK. But so far we don’t know if the baby lives or dies yet in the finale.” Ugh. Have your family-sized Kleenex box standing by, just in case!

Maria from Riverside, Calif: Gossip Girl! Please! I miss it so.
You and me both, sister. Word on the street is that Georgina will come back a totally different person. My guess? George.

Lacey in Utica, N.Y.: I’ll take 90210 scoop if you’ve got it!
Things are really going to start heating up between Liam (Matt Lanter) and Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord). Says McCord, “Things are getting a little hot and steamy. Then, as if what we’re doing is not enough, Naomi starts having wet dreams. It’s hilarious. All I’m going to say is ‘banana in a pocket.’ ” By the way, AnnaLynne also tells me Eden will be back on Nip/Tuck: “I have one more episode airing that I’ve shot so far, and then I don’t know what’s next for it, but I don’t fall off, so you never know, I could come back…The last episode I’m with Kimber and Ram. I’m pretty mean. That’s all I’m going to say.” In other news, we’ll be meeting Adrianna’s Aunt Nancy in the finale. She’s described a good egg, which makes me worry that she’ll be taking off with either Adrianna or her baby…

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and More

4 02 2009
  • E!Online has video of Tori Spelling (Donna) filming with Jennie Garth (Kelly) and Jessica Stroup (Silver) on the 90210 set.  Nothing revealing.  They also have semi-revealing scoop about Gossip Girl (but nothing new if you read the spoiler post from earlier today!).
  • Don’t usually post tabloid gossip but this is interesting, considering there’s been rumors for months: US Weekly has a photo of Ed Westwick (Chuck, Gossip Girl) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, Gossip Girl) kissing.  Or at least it seems to be Ed.  Honestly not 100 percent sure it’s him.
  • But if you want to spot Chuck himself in real life (or someone like him), you should read this post from Jossip.
  • Or you can see Westwick at the upcoming Comic Con, where he’ll promote S. Darko.  The film also stars James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill).
  • Maureen Ryan from The Chicago Tribune has a cool interview with Josh Schwartz on the role music will play in the Gossip Girl spin-off.
  • I don’t watch Big Love but apparently it improves upon what The O.C. got right in–and only in–the show’s first season.  (For more on what The O.C. got right and then got wrong, as alluded to in the article, check out my own piece here!)

LA Times: 90210 Needs To Be Saved

3 02 2009

The Los Angeles Times published an excellent article yesterday on how the new 90210 isn’t living up to expectations.  The best analysis I’ve seen by far!

Here’s a summary:

“‘90210’ is suffering a servere case of adolescent angst.”

American Idol’s return is affecting its audience, so the show will move to 9PM later this season–after a six-week break!

The show is doing well overseas but not in the U.S.

90210 can’t get out of Gossip Girl’s “shadow.”

“The series has floundered creatively and has no irresistible Dylan-Brenda couple to root for.”

The original series is the number one teen drama in history.  I wholeheartedly agree with that.  Even if I didn’t root for Brenda and Dylan.  (And you can read about the show’s origins and how it defined the genre here!)

Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs have stopped writing for the show after having problems with the network (and they even seem regretful about signing on to the show at all) but they remain on board in other capacities for now.  They won’t be back if there’s a season 2.

“‘I’m not as witty as [‘Gossip Girl’ executive producer] Josh Schwartz and I never will be,'”Judah says.

Dustin Milligan (Ethan) admits he’s unhappy Judah and Sachs’ plans weren’t followed.  It’s one reason the storyline for Ethan to have an autistic brother didn’t play out.

New executive producer Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair admits she needs time to “fix” things.

“Saving “90210” [is] a top priority, but it won’t be easy.”

Jennie Garth (Kelly) is signed on for one more episode.  Tori Spelling (Donna) will have a “limited run.”

CW head honcho Dawn Ostroff is blaming the nostalgia factor for the show’s problems.

Despite all of the above, there most likely will be a season two.

And BREATHE!

News Roundup: The O.C, 90210 and Gossip Girl

27 01 2009
  • Marissa (Mischa Barton, The O.C.) and Alex’s (Olivia Wilde, The O.C.) break-up is ranked number 9 on a list of the worst lesbian break-ups in TV history.
  • Jennie Garth (Kelly, 90210) says she wants to show the “real side” of her character.  Um, isn’t that what we saw on the 10 years of the first show?  Though I do agree that we should see more of her and Sammy…
  • More people watched 90210 on DVR this week than any other show.
  • Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina, Gossip Girl) says she doesn’t know what her storyline will be when she returns to GG but she loves playing a “nasty bitch.”
  • Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl) and Penn Bagdley (Dan, Gossip Girl) will appear on the DirecTV Celebrity Beach Bowl, airing Saturday.

News Roundup: 90210, One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek

  • So it IS true that Diablo Cody will be guest-starring on 90210!  You can read about it here, here and here!
  • Grant Show is up for making an appearance on 90210…if his character Jake can revive his his long-ago romance with Kelly (Jennie Garth)!
  • One of the show’s writers talks about Tori’s return here.
  • Watch with Kristin says there’s an “even” chance One Tree Hill will return for a seventh season.  Also in the article is a very interesting quote from Sophia Bush (Brooke) about once dating a current co-star (!) after splitting from Chad Michael Murray (Lucas).
  • James Van Der Beek (Dawson…duh!) will play a surporting role on a new pilot series called Eve Adams.

Jennie Garth on Her Old Castmates Joining 90210

8 01 2009

“To have anyone from the original cast walk through the door I would be like, ‘Yes, thank God!’ because I just miss them and it’s not the same without them.”

Breaking News: Tori Spelling “Close” to 90210 Deal

7 01 2009

It’s the news many have been waiting for.  A deal will be finalized soon for Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) to appear on 90210 for multiple episodes, according to the LA Times.

I didn’t (and still don’t) want Donna back without David (Brian Austin Green) because I fear it will be revealed that they’re no longer together.  I don’t know how the execs could do that in good conscious considering how much of the original series was built around their relationship, especially the series finale.

Before Spelling’s first appearance deal fell apart over the summer, the plan was to have Donna be the owner of her own boutique.  My question: isn’t she already?  Anyone remember Now Wear This?  But like Kelly (Jennie Garth) was so far from where we last saw her, who knows what Donna will be up to?

Are you okay with a Donna return even if the storyline isn’t true to the original series?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.
