Fun Fact
19 03 2010Since the first teen drama debuted in 1990, there’s only been one period of time without an active teen drama.
Active refers to: is the show current? It can be on hiatus. It just can’t be canceled.
In 1990, Beverly Hills 90210 debuted.
In 1998, while it was still on the air, Dawson’s Creek premiered.
But when Dawson’s Creek ended in spring of 2003, BH90210 had ended three years prior and there wasn’t any other teen drama on television.
Until…
A few months later The O.C. started in the late summer and very shortly after that, One Tree Hill began.
The O.C. ended in 2007 but, as we very well know, One Tree Hill has been active all this time.
And if this turns out to be the last season of OTH, there’s Gossip Girl (started in 2007) and 90210 (2008).
Will there be another period when there’s no teen drama left on the air? I hope not but time will tell!

Weekly Poll
17 03 2010In the last Weekly Poll, forty-seven percent of you enthusiastically said you hoped Dan was in the remaining four episodes of One Tree Hill, while 31 percent said it depends on the storyline. But another 21 percent believed the show is fine without him and the character has run its course. Forty-two percent didn’t notice Vanessa wasn’t in last week’s Gossip Girl and thought that was a good thing, while 8 percent also didn’t notice but thought that was terrible. Thirty-four percent did notice but weren’t bothered and 15 percent also noticed and missed her. Most voters–57-percent–weren’t familiar with Greg Vaughan’s character on Beverly Hills 90210 but equal numbers–21 percent each–said of course they were or they were only familiar with him a little bit. (These all add up to 99 percent. I have no idea why.)

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, The O.C., 90210 and One Tree Hill
16 03 2010- Last night’s Gossip Girl (1.7 million viewers) stayed the same in the ratings compared to last week, making that two weeks in a row with a record-low. Meanwhile, Life Unexpected had a nice increase in ratings, which The CW (rightfully) bragged about in a press release, while also spinning GG’s numbers.
- At work today, Gossip Cop and I busted Access Hollywood and OK! Magazine for citing one of the fake Twitter accounts for Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl).
- Zap2it has an interview with Aaron Tveit (Tripp, Gossip Girl), mostly about Ugly Betty.
- Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl) and Chris Carmack (Luke, The O.C.) star in the TV movie Beauty & The Briefcase, which will air on ABCFamily April 18.
- Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) wrote a piece for TVGuide.com about tonight’s episode of Southland. Apparently this is the third week he’s done this. News to me!
- Bonnie Somerville (Rachel, The O.C.) and Matt Lanter (Liam, 90210) each participated in a short trivia game with DailyFill, where the questions happened to be predominantly about our teen dramas!
- The CW Source, BuzzSugar and TeenTelevision.com have spoilish interviews with Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210).
- Alloy and TV.com have spoilish interviews with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210). Really not happy with the factually-inaccurate and insulting answer he gave to the last question in the latter one. (BTW, have you read my interview with him?)
- Crushable.com has a post highlighting “5 Dudes Who Are Way Too Old To Be Playing Teenagers on TV,” including Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) and making references to Steger and Andrea (Gabrielle Carteris, Beverly Hills 90210).
- The Walshes ranked 49th in TV Guide Magazine’s list of Top 50 TV Families.
- For the week of February 22, One Tree Hill had one of the top 10 biggest gains when DVR ratings were factored in.
- Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) posted a new vlog earlier this month on the SoGoPro site.
- Kate Voegele (Mia, One Tree Hill) is going on tour with Jordin Sparks.

- MSNBC has an article on Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210) hosting TODAY this morning.
- Came across a video interview with Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) for Dancing With The Stars, where she briefly mentions talking to Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210) about her experience with the show.
- Clips from One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and The O.C. can be seen in the background of this performance by Stuckey and Murray. The “comedy music duo” are parodying the music and montages that play at the end of TV dramas. It’s pretty awesome.

Live-Blog: Gossip Girl 3.14
15 03 2010Keep refreshing this page throughout the show for plot developments, quotes and commentary.
EPISODE 3.14: The Lady Vanished
- Previously on: Dan tells Vanessa he loves her, she’s disinterested, Serena finds the letter from her dad, Lily kissed her dad, Rufus tells Holland he’s not a trophy husband and goes to see her, Damian sells drugs, Chuck still believes his mom is dead, Blair says he’s not alone, Nate and Serena say they should take it slow but then kiss, Jenny tells Damian if he wants a date he should ask.
- Gossip Girl says Jenny and Damian are having relations.
- He’s in her room. Apparently he snuck in.
- They’re discussing about a date planned for Saturday.
- But the date will be filled with drug deals.
- Damian says he needs to store the drugs with her…in a DVD case.
- She agrees. This will backfire. And not just because the previews told us.
- Damian’s grandfather (or was it father?) wants to see him but he said he has plans.
- Jenny has practically no makeup on. I miss that!
- Serena comes into Nate’s kitchen just wearing one of his shirts. I guess she’s staying there now? And Chuck isn’t home?
- He made breakfast.
- But it quickly turns into a makeout sesh.
- Kind of gross one. Involving food.
- The implication is they had sex. Now they are, um, resting on the kitchen floor.
- Blair is yelling from another room, as if she’s having sex with Chuck.
- Serena says she doesn’t want to be undone.
- Nate’s phone rings…and it’s Chuck. LOL
- Chuck says he left his cell at home and doesn’t want Blair to get a hold of it.
- Chuck is at a hotel. Elizabeth walked behind him. I guess he’s following her or something?
- He just paid someone who works there for what looks like a key room. I guess to her room.
- Serena interrupts Blair’s noises. LOL
- Q1: I’m just glad I got Chuck’s couch scotch-guarded.
- Serena has covered her bottom-half with a blanket and a pillow.
- She senses Blair is upset about something else.
- Blair says they’re not connecting. Not just physically but emotionally.
- She says Chuck is shutting her out and normally she chalks it up to him just being Chuck.
- But he went through something big last week and if he’s still upset about it, he should talk to her.
- She just wants to make him feel better. Aw.
- Dan is in the dorm. Some girl named Melissa (Marissa?) kind of hits on him. He turns down her advances and…
- …knocks on Vanessa’s door.
- Dan says he missed her and his “I love you” was a friend.
- Vanessa says he doesn’t have to explain.
- She says she’s going to a party now…with Paul.
- Dan says he’s seeing someone, too, and it’ll be fine for them all to go together.
- Now Dan has an hour to find a date!
- And now he’s going to find Melissa. LOL
- Chuck goes into Elizabeth’s hotel room. He’s searching the drawers and her suitcase, etc.
- He finds something wrapped in cloth but it cuts to the next scene.
- Nate interrupts Blair and Serena, trying to get Chuck’s cell.
- Q2: I wanted to check a tweet.–Nate
- Funny.
- Q3: God, I miss that. Dating someone who is a horrible liar.–Blair
- She realizes Chuck just didn’t want her to see his phone.
- She sees calls from an unfamiliar number and there’s a message.
- Lily walks in on and Jenny and Damian. She realizes they were hooking up and she’s POed.
- Jenny begs her not to tell Rufus.
- She orders them both into the living room.
- Q4: I turned over a new leaf. A leaf from the non-meddling trust tree.–Blair
- Serena tells Blair to give Nate the phone. He does.
- He checks it and sees it’s the same number he called on before.
- Blair plays the message.
- It’s a woman saying Chuck hasn’t returned her calls. She’s still staying at the Algonquin and wants to see him.
- Blair announces that it must be Elizabeth Fisher, because she was staying at the Algonquin.
- Chuck walks in and interrupts.
- Q5: Her named used to be Evelyn and she’s my mother.–Chuck
- Q6: And just like that, we get the mother of all questions.–Gossip Girl
- But how does he knowwwwwwwwwww?
- 90210 promo.
- Chuck is holding half a locket, the one we saw last week, with a picture of a young woman holding a baby. Presumably Elizabeth and Chuck.
- Nate says Bart said Chuck’s mom was dead.
- Q7: He also taught me kids wore suits to kindergarten and blue chips stocks were great. He told me what he wanted me to believe.–Chuck
- Blair explains they met her last week.
- Serena says he should be happy. His mother is alive!
- Chuck, however, is not happy at all. He leaves to go drink.
- Serena says they have to help him.
- Q8: He’s had enough pain in his life. If he doesn’t want to hear her story, I will respect that and so should you.–Blair
- Damian wants to leave. He’s not ready to play the “scared boyfriend” role.
- Jenny says no one asked him to.
- Rufus walks in, wanting to know why Lily called him so urgently.
- She explains Jenny had, ahem, a friend stay over last night.
- Rufus sees Jenny and Damian and his face looks soooo furious!
- Vanessa and Paul are with Dan and Melissa.
- Vanessa is bragging about their relationship while Paul looks confused.
- Dan lies about his relationship with Melissa, too, and goes to get drinks.
- Q9: A Blair Waldorf apology without a caveat? Sounds serious.–Chuck
- She says she’s hear if he wants to talk and if he doesn’t.
- Chuck says this news about Elizabeth doesn’t change anything.
- Q10: The past remains the past.–Chuck
- Blair suggests going to Bart’s grave, with the locket, and leaving it there and moving on.
- He gives her a kiss.
- Lily tries to get Rufus to calm down. Weird, considering she was POed earlier and is the one who called Rufus.
- Q11: Jenny is not Serena. Contrary to popular belief, children needs boundaries.–Rufus
- Damian tries to explain to Rufus that he and Jenny just fell asleep watching TV the night before, even though that sounds straight out of “teenagers for dummies.”
- Rufus says the worst part of having a teen daughter is remembering what it was like to be a teen boy.
- Woah, Rufus just called Jenny Jennifer! He means BUSINESS!
- He sends her to pack her things. She will stay in Brooklyn at the loft again.
- Lily tries to interrupt but he says he’s going to pack his things, too.
- Vanessa tells Dan that Melissa seems nice.
- But this is weird. Because they’re not “in the friendship groove.”
- Dan shrugs it off and suggests they take a photo with one of the displays.
- They get in close and start kissing! Intensely!
- Dare I say… I kind of like?
- They’re both caught off-guard.
- And they pretend it didn’t happen and take the photo!
- Nate and Serena join Chuck and Blair at the bar.
- Serena suggests they go get food..
- Chuck agrees. He and Blair lead the way.
- Nate asks Serena if they’re doing the right thing.
- Serena says Chuck needs to know his mom and just needs a push.
- Q12: Careful, S. You may think you know what’s best. But this time you might just be pushing your Chuck.–Gossip Girl
- I imagine this is stemming from Serena’s sadness over her relationship with her dad. She still can’t find him–or he won’t let himself be found (letter aside)–but Chuck has found his mom and isn’t taking advantage of it.
- They’re at a restaurant and in walks Elizabeth.
- Blair immediately says it wasn’t her. LOL
- Nate says they called her.
- Serena says Chuck is making a big mistake.
- If he refuses, it will eat away at him forever.
- Talking to her now is better than never knowing.
- He agrees and walks over.
- Blair doesn’t look happy. Is she being protective? Or jealous she didn’t orchestrate it?
- Paul and Melissa are bonding.
- They tell Vanessa and Dan that Melissa/Dan just met this morning and Vanessa just called Paul earlier to get back together!
- Q13: Please, don’t bring normal people into whatever this is.–Paul
- Vanessa says this was a mistake and walks off.
- Elizabeth tells Chuck that his friend–Serena (or Nate?)–says he knows who she is.
- She says she doesn’t know where to start.
- He asks to skip to the end of the story.
- She apologizes, confused, not knowing what he means.
- He writes her a check.
- He thinks she’s only shown up now, out of the blue, for some of Bart’s fortune!
- Serena tells Blair and Nate that Elizabeth doesn’t want money. She really just wants talk. She says she’s going over there.
- Q14: Serena, sit your ass down.–Blair
- Wowow!
- Chuck says there’s no strings attached to the check except one: she doesn’t share her story. She just leaves and never comes back.
- She asks if this is really what he wants. He says nods.
- She apologizes again and walks away. I think she took the check.
- Q15: Expensive lunch, but it was worth it. By the way, you were wrong.–Chuck to Serena.
- Ouch.
- Damian walks into Jenny’s room. She’s packing.
- She gives him the drugs.
- Q16: I’m getting exiled to Brooklyn becuse of our relationship and I don’t even know if we have one.–Jenny
- Damian points out she’s still in high school and Rufus isn’t “completely out of line.”
- Q17: I’m not going to write your name in a heart on a binder…But give me something to fight for.–Jenny
- Damian says Jenny is already fighting with her dad.
- Jenny points out she always fights with him and it doesn’t bother him.
- She grabs the drugs from him and drops them on the floor, in sight of Rufus.
- He is shocked and asks who they belong to.
- Jenny says she can explain.
- Rufus asks Lily if she knew about this.
- Q18: No, Rufus. I didn’t know about a giant bag of pills.–Lily
- Damian asks Jenny what she’s doing.
- Q19: I may be a bitch but I’m not a little bitch.–Jenny
- What a line!
- Rufus asks Jenny if she’s using or selling.
- She points out that Rufus used to do drugs.
- He said he did pot…years ago.
- Q20: I look at you and I don’t see my daughter anymore.–Rufus
- Jenny looks shocked/sad/hurt/contemplative.
- Damian says they are his.
- They all chase after Chuck.
- He walks off.
- Blair tells Serena she knows why S is doing this. (See my comment above!)
- Serena says she’s right and says she should go.
- Nate says he’ll go with her but she says she wants to be alone.
- She gets into a cab and Nate asks Blair what she meant.
- Blair blows him off and walks away.
- Dan is confronting Vanessa about her lying about Paul and avoiding him since his confession. He’s talking a mile-a-minute!
- Q21: Don’t get all Dan Humphrey on me!–Vanessa
- Dan says he didn’t want to ruin their friendship.
- She said their friendship stopped when he said he loved her.
- And she wishes he never said that.
- Double ouch.
- Damian explains that his dad is a drug addict, going on benders. He recounts a specific occasion.
- Rufus questions why he didn’t tell anyone.
- Damian thought his dad was better until he found these pills in his room this morning.
- He was so upset and came over to see Jenny, who has been there for him lately.
- Lily is buying it, saying she understands he didn’t sleep over.
- Jenny goes along with it.
- Rufus doesn’t understand why he brought the pills with him.
- Damian says it’s because he didn’t want to leave them with his dad.
- Damian and Jenny are really pulling this off!
- Chuck is at home, in his room.
- Blair asks if he wants to talk. He says no.
- So they start making out?!
- Jenny asks Damian where he got that charade from.
- He said the story is true: his dad is actually an addict.
- Jenny asks why Damian doesn’t move out or something.
- He says if keeps coming home, his dad will, too.
- But he kind of contradicts himself a moments later saying…
- Q22: Be happy if you have a father who actually cares what you do.–Damian
- Rufus tells Damian it’s time to go and Jenny is still coming with him.
- Jenny tells Rufus she really liked Damian and he says Jenny is young and will get over it.
- Serena goes up to Elizabeth, who is checking out of the hotel.
- Elizabeth said Chuck’s feelings were clear.
- Serena says she wants to talk about herself.
- Q23: Well, S. Looks like Chuck’s mom isn’t the only one with baggage.–Gossip Girl
- I do kind of like the Serena/Chuck parallel and that they’re weaving the storylines together.
- Serena tells Elizabeth her dad left when she was a little girl and she doesn’t know if she’ll ever know why.
- She tells Elizabeth she wants to know her story.
- Elizabeth says she was 19 when she got pregnant and it was agreed to give the baby up for adoption.
- Serena points out the locket and the photo of her with Chuck.
- Turns out, Bart didn’t want to go through with the adoption. He proposed to her.
- But Elizabeth didn’t want to marry him, didn’t love him, and suggested Bart raise Chuck and he always tell him that she was dead.
- She got her life, Bart got the baby.
- Serena says Elizabeth must’ve had regrets.
- Elizabeth says Bart paid her every year but he didn’t have to. She’s never regretted her decision.
- Q24: My son wants to hate me. I don’t blame him.–Elizabeth
- Wow! I did not expect that at all!
- Serena says she’s known Chuck her whole life and he’s good at pushing people away but…
- Q25: There’s no child that doesn’t want to know their parent.–Serena
- She walks off.
- Vanessa sees Dan talking to girls.
- She asks to speak to him.
- Vanessa admits she lied to him and then kissed him because she does have feelings for him.
- She doesn’t want to ruin the friendship.
- But they are ruining it anyway because they want to be together and they’re not.
- They agree that they need to try it out and see what happens.
- She says she’s scared.
- And he kisses her.
- It was actually kind of cute/sweet. I wish I got the back-and-forth quotes. Sorry, folks.
- Jenny tells Rufus she’s sorry and she know she’s grounded but asks if Damian can have “visitation rights.”
- Rufus says no.
- Jenny asks Lily for help.
- Lily says Rufus is right.
- Jenny says Lily is only agreeing with him because she and Rufus are fighting.
- Jenny says Rufus has been obviously MIA and Lily has been taking some pills (I missed what kind) frequently.
- She says she’s going to wait in the lobby.
- Lily says to Rufus they should stay put and work through this as a family.
- Rufus says Jenny needs to get away to get back on “solid ground” and he says he needs the same.
- Chuck tells Blair the check for Elizabeth was a test. He didn’t want her to take it.
- The phone rings. It’s the front desk.
- Elizabeth is in the lobby. She wants to come up.
- Rufus is ready to leave but Jenny’s MIA.
- Serena goes to Blair’s place. I don’t get why Serena is saying there.
- Nate is waiting for her.
- He asks where she’s been.
- She says she went to see Chuck’s mother.
- Nate asks why.
- She explains she’s been trying to find her her father and needs to know why he left.
- She says how she found him last summer but he didn’t want to see her.
- But he wrote her a letter and he explained he was with Lily.
- And Nate now realizes why Serena has been avoiding Lily. (She has?)
- Serena says talking to Elizabeth, she now realizes her dad just didn’t want to be found.
- Nate asks why Serena never told him.
- Serena says things have been so fun with him. She didn’t want to bring things down.
- Nate agrees things have been great…
- Q26: I want to be that person you can bring anything to.–Nate
- Awwww.
- Elizabeth has told Chuck and Blair the truth.
- Q27: And I thought my father was the heartless one.–Chuck
- Elizabeth says Chuck has every right to hate her but she wants to be in his life.
- For a price, Chuck says.
- But she gives the check back.
- Q28: I want to know my son.–Elizabeth
- She’s staying in New York as long as it takes.
- She starts to leave, though.
- Chuck stops her, saying at the very least, she can buy him a drink with all the money Bart gave her over the years.
- WOAH! Dan and Vanessa had sex!
- Way to rush it!
- Q29: “I was worried it wasn’t going to be as good without Olivia.” “I think Olivia actually brought us down.”–Vanessa and Dan
- Oh, snap!
- They worry if this propels them forward into advanced coupledom.
- Vanessa suggests they take it one day at a time and keep being friends.
- Just friends?
- Dan agrees, as long as they can keep hooking up.
- So friends with benefits?
- Jenny catches up with Damian. She has pills she took from Lily’s cabinet so they can still do the deal.
- Damian says they can skip the party.
- He kisses her.
- Vanya comes into the penthouse.
- Lily asks what he’s doing with Rufus’ scarf.
- He says Holland gave it him, saying Rufus left it her apartment.
- Q30: I’m sure he was just down there talking about rooftop garden.–Vanya
- Lily thanks him and agrees. He leaves.
- She’s not happy.
- Serena is leaving a message for her dad, unsure if that’s still his number, though. Nate is with her.
- Q31: I’m not looking for you anymore. I thought you didn’t want to know me. But now it’s me that doesn’t want to know you. I’m done.–Serena
- Blair gives Chuck her blessing to stay and bond with Elizabeth.
- Q32: Spotted. Chuck Bass breaking bread with his mother. Looks like our little boy lost is finally found.–Gossip Girl
- Chuck asks Elizabeth, with a smile, what she wants to know. Elizabeth says “everything.”
- Awww.
- That was wrapped up kind of quick. But I enjoyed it. Curious to know if there’s more with her.
- Preview: Jenny and Damian are hooking up and he wants sex. Serena says a person’s first time is monumental. Uncle Jack Bass is back and Chuck doesn’t look happy. Jenny has run off with Damian and Dan is warned that Damian is a “dangerous” guy.
Those are my thoughts. What’s yours?

Kelly Rutherford on Playing Lily
12 03 2010“I’m so glad I’m not playing a frumpy mom. She’s divorced, raising two kids and trying to make the right decisions. She’s figuring it out as she goes along. It’s inspiring to play a character who doesn’t always have the right reaction. I think the best thing we can do for our kids is to work on ourselves.”
