News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and More

3 11 2009
  • Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new video content this week.
  • Last night’s One Tree Hill (2.3 million viewers) and Gossip Girl (2.0 million viewers rounded up) each had a decent drop in the ratings compared to last week.  Gossip Girl technically didn’t even cross 2 million (again, I rounded up), tying for a season-low.
  • I will be interviewing Lee Norris (Mouth, One Tree Hill) later this week.  Since I’ve already interviewed him, I figured this time I would use reader questions.  Please comment with your question by Thursday Friday morning.  I cannot promise it will be asked but I’ll do my best!
  • The new One Tree Hill Connection podcast features an interview with OTH writer Terrence Coli.
  • I love this video interview with Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill), where she adamantly states she isn’t on Twitter.  As you’ve seen in my Twitter Directory, there are tons of fake Sophias out there.  Frustrating!
  • Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) recorded a message on SoGoPro.
  • If you haven’t seen Brett Claywell (Tim, One Tree Hill) on One Life to Live, Perez Hilton actually posted a clip.
  • In a Gossip Girl recap by the L.A. Times, both Andrea (Gabrielle Carteris, Beverly Hills 90210) and Joey (Katie Holmes, Dawson’s Creek) are compared to Vanessa (Jessica Szhor, Gossip Girl).
  • If you missed the short clip of the video for “Somebody to Love” by Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl), which aired during GG last night, E! Online posted it.
  • The Parents Television Council has sent a letter urging CW affiliates not to air next week’s episode, which will feature the reported threesome.  Seems a little preemptive (no pun intended) to me.  I can’t imagine the episode being vulgar enough to warrant this.  I imagine, like the gay kiss, it will be such a nothing thing and is really more about getting publicity and media attention (in which case, it worked).  But I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
  • You can get 10% off the cost of tickets for the Gossip Girl tour in New York City when you use the promo code TEENDRAMA.
  • TV Guide Magazine has a spoiler-filled interview with Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210) about what happens with the Jackie (Ann Gillespie) storyline.  We all know how I feel about this so I figured I’d spare you guys the rant.
  • Ausiello has a lot more spoiler-filled details on the Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes, 90210) / Gia (Rumer Willis, 90210) storyline.
  • Kellan Lutz (George, 90210) and Nikki Reed (Sadie, The O.C.) are also featured in the Nov. issue of Nylon.
  • The O.C. made BlackBook’s list of Top 10 Single-Letter & Acronymical TV Shows.
  • Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) will star alongside Holmes in The Romantics.  Holmes will also produce.
  • The A.V. Club has a great interview with Chris Pratt (Che, The O.C.)

2 11 2009
  • The CW sent out another press release saying that 90210, once again, had drastic improvements in ratings when DVR numbers are factored in.  One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl got bumps, too.
  • All three shows are included in TVGuide.com’s November Sweeps Roundup, but it’s mostly just taken directly from the press release the network had sent out a week or so go.

  • Kellan Lutz (George, 90210) co-hosted a joint Halloween-New Moon event in Las Vegas this weekend.
  • The CW Source posted podcasts for last week’s One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl.
  • Right after Gossip Girl finished airing tonight, The CW sent out a press release touting the clip of the “Somebody to Love” by Leighton Meester (Blair) that was included in tonight’s ep.  The full song will be featured next week and the full video will premiere on The CW’s Web site right after the episode ends.  Furthermore, “Leighton will also be the featured artist on the “Gossip Girl’’ music page of CWTV.com (CWTV.com/ggmusic).  Gossip Girl-centric social networking sites will also be plugged into the buzz surrounding “Somebody To Love,” featuring Tweets, Facebook updates, MySpace alerts and more, as well as serving up multiple online links to the steamy video.”
  • Apparently Meester performed with Weezer this weekend.
  • Ed Westwick (Chuck, Gossip Girl) hosted the launch party for Todd DiCiurcio’s new exhibit.  Also in attendance were Jessica Szhor (Vanessa, Gossip Girl) and Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl).
  • Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl) is on the cover of the November issue of Nylon.  You can also read an excerpt of the story.
  • MTV has an interview with Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina, Gossip Girl) on her GG role.
  • Meredith Monroe (Andie, Dawson’s Creek) has been added to the Paley Center panel taking place this Wednesday night.

Kevin Williamson on Teen Dramas

31 10 2009

“I love the teen experience. There is something very potent about teen drama in the sense that everyone is dealing with their first love.”

Random Thought

30 10 2009

I was watching The O.C. recently when this thought struck me: three of our teen dramas have introduced a night club as a way of gathering the characters and featuring musical guests.

Beverly Hills 90210 started the trend (as they did with almost every teen drama characteristic) in 1994 with the After Dark.

One Tree Hill followed suit with TRIC  in 2004.

The O.C. debuted The Bait Shop a few weeks later.

Dawson’s Creek was an exception, and we’ve yet to see if Gossip Girl and 90210 will do something similarly.

Another common feature: the evil character that, after a health crisis, vows to change his ways.  On The O.C. it was Caleb and on One Tree Hill it’s Dan.

That’s enough randomness for now.  Until next time…

YouTube Video of the Week

18 10 2009

Yet another Family Guy paraody of our teen dramas!

This one is of Dawson’s Creek.

And there’s still another one I can’t find a clip of.

In the episode Death Is A Bitch, Peter is forced to try to kill the Dawson’s Creek actors.  As you might imagine, it’s quite funny.  I’d love to post it but I can’t find it anywhere.  Let me know if you come across it!

Updated: I see now that the above video is no longer working.  I can’t find an alternative, either.  So, again, if you find any of the Dawson’s Creek-Family Guy parodies anywhere, please send them my way!

Updated Again: I embedded a different version of the video above.

Joshua Jackson on Dawson’s Creek

16 10 2009

“Dawson’s Creek was shown in something like 115 countries. The fans were rabid, passionate and incredible. The fact that I had a character that connected with people was amazing.”
