News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and The O.C.

27 04 2010
  • Last night’s One Tree Hill (2 million viewers) dropped a bit in the ratings compared to its last episode while Gossip Girl (2 million viewers) rose a bit in the ratings compared to its last episode. The CW sent out a press release touting the numbers for both, noting it was the network’s best Monday since January 18 in terms of demographics, One Tree Hill’s best in certain demos since January 25 and Gossip Girl’s best ratings all around since December 7.
  • One Tree Hill fans will rally this weekend in Wilmington at the actual River Court seen on the show.
  • The blog Pandandrum has an extremely well-written post about why The CW should renew One Tree Hill. I don’t agree with it all of it and it’s not entirely accurate but it is probably the best pro-OTH piece I’ve seen.
  • James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill) appears in the video for Car Crash by Wakey!Wakey!, which features Mike Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill).
  • Kristen Bell (Gossip Girl, Gossip Girl) appears in a promo for the MTV Movie Awards.

  • Ausiello has an exclusive clip from next week’s Gossip Girl.

(Not entirely helpful without the questions but you get the gist.) There’s one vague reference to BH90210.
  • KENS5, a news station in San Antonio, has a video interview with Kate Voegele (Mia, One Tree Hill). I kind of loved it.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

‘Gossip Girl’ pushed me over the edge when Chuck and Blair broke up after he Bass sold her out to his uncle in exchange for a hotel. And now, this is posted on People.com. Is Chuck truly planning on destroying his best friend’s relationship with Serena, or could there be a twist? – Daniela
I did my best to assuage your fears, but this is all exec producer Stephanie Savage would cough up: “It’s ‘Gossip Girl’! Always expect a twist.”

Do you have any information about the fate of ‘Life Unexpected’? – SVaddicted via Twitter
With the season finale just aired, Season 2 at this point is neither unexpected nor expected. The consensus seems to be that the CW will need to choose between ‘LUX’ and ‘One Tree Hill,’ with the latter being more expensive to produce. Also figuring into the decision is how the network’s assorted pilots shake out. Cross fingers!

Notes:

I posted the aforementioned PEOPLE.com article a few days ago.

Life Unexpected stars Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek).

The CW is looking at six pilots (not including reality shows).

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

“Stop calling Jenny Humphrey a homewrecker!”

It’s the recent cry of many of you Little J-loving Gossip Girl fans, who feel we’ve been treating the Upper East Side’s new queen unfairly in recent weeks, calling her the H-word and hinting that she may trying to steal Nate (Chace Crawford) away from Serena (Blake Lively).

Sorry! When I interviewed Gossip Girl bosses Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Josh joked of the H-word: “We think the word speaks for itself, Kristin.” And so, I promise to stop using it…Um, after this one last time, because now, I’m hearing there is very good cause, and it has to do with those rumors that a certain Gossip Girl star is leaving the show.

Marissa in Boise, Idaho: You’ve gotta stop it with the “Jenny is a homewrecker” stuff.
So sorry, but as I hinted above, Jenny is indeed about to meddle, and I’m not referring to Nate and Serena. I’m actually talking about her dad, Rufus, and stepmom, Lily. I’m hearing that Little J is going to try to do some bad things to their relationship, and then…yes, she’s going away. But the good news for you Jenny fans (finally!) is that contrary to some rumors you may have heard, she is not dying. I’m told Taylor Momsen will be back in season four. At least, that’s the plan.

Shannon G.: We last saw Jasper in the hospital before being admitted into psychiatric treatment. Is this the last we will see of him on 90210, or is there a chance he could pop back into the picture at some time?
Poor Annie’s not in the clear just yet! Jasper will most definitely be back and causing more woes along the way. In fact, he’s a huge part of that out-of-this-world finale we’ve been telling you so much about. Well, he and his dead “uncle.”

Kassie in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.: What else is ahead on 90210?
Some seriously big things are coming up in Beverly Hills…I’m hearing the finale shocker has to do with Naomi’s big sexual harassment lie, and in the meantime, her evil sis Jen returns.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Matilda in Mississippi: We’re all aware that whatever Jack Bass does on tonight’s Gossip Girl is pretty huge, but can you tell us if this is it for Desmond Harrington on the show, or will he be back to mess things up again?

You never know with those tight-lipped Gossip Girl producers, but according to Desmond Harrington, when drama is needed, there he’ll be. “They bring him when they need somebody to ruin something, I guess,” he tells us. We love you, D, but here’s hoping we never see your trouble-bringin’ face about the Upper East Side again.
XOXO, Team WWK.

Rachelle in Catalina Island: It’s time to take sides: Are you on Life Unexpected‘s Team Ryan or Team Baze?
I definitely love me some Kris Polaha and, of course, have a soft spot for Kerr Smith from way back in the Dawson’s Creek day, but would you believe me if I told you the guys of Life Unexpected have convinced me to turn—Team Math?! “Team Math all the way, that’s all I’m saying,” Mister Math himself, Austin Basis, just told me. “Watch the ‘Winter Formal’ episode, and if you don’t go ‘awww,’ then there’s no hope.” Think he’s kidding? Get a load of this: “Team Math is the most valid. Team Math, start the revolution! I even made people’s T-shirts for wrap gifts.” Ummm, Austin, where’s my shirt?

Rebecca in New York: Please! Tell us what Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage said about Jenny and Nate! And thank you for the Chuck and Blair scoop, that is great to hear.
You got it. So, when I asked the Gossip Girl bosses if Jenny and Nate have moved past their platonic, brother-sister relationship, Josh told me: “I think one of them may feel that way.” Zinga! I’m guessing that’s Jenny. You? Stephanie simply gave this little tease: “We do have a really fun story coming up in this last run of episodes moving toward the finale.” Fun for who? I’m thinking not fun for Serena!

Ginny in Texas: Am I the only fan rooting for Vanessa and Rufus?! They have mad chemistry.
Ew. And yes! Josh Schwartz has this to say: “We understand there are all kinds of fans, Nate-Serena fans, Dan-Serena fans, and even Vanessa-Rufus fans, but we want everybody to know that they are talked about in the writer’s room all the time, except for the Vanessa-Rufus fans. They’re the only ones we can tell you are barking up the wrong tree.” Ha!
