News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl and Dawson’s Creek

23 02 2010
  • Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new video content this week.
  • Last night’s One Tree Hill (2.2 million viewers) rose a bit in the ratings compared to last week. The CW sent out a press release touting the ratings increase–but remember, last week was a season- and (I think) series-low and 2.2 is about the season average so this isn’t much to brag about. The network also says this is the highest rating since Dec. 7, but three out of the last five episodes (not including this one) had a 2.2 (rounded) rating so I don’t get that part, and considering the Dec. 7 rating was 2.6, this, again, isn’t brag-worthy.
  • Mike Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill) has a funny vlog that sorta kinda features James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill).
  • The new One Tree Hill Connection podcast has an interview with Amanda Schull (Sara/Katie, One Tree Hill).
  • Korbi is asking which Tuesday show you miss the most and 90210 is one of the options.
  • Zuzanna Szadkowski (Dorota, Gossip Girl) spoke at Barnard, her alma mater, last weekend.
  • The Celebrity Cafe has an interview with James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek).
  • IFC.com has an interesting article on Michelle Williams (Jen, Dawson’s Creek) and her career.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Cassandra in Prescott, Ariz.: What’s going to be happening when 90210 finally returns?
Get ready for some major stalking from 90210‘s creepy drug dealer, Jasper. He’ll continue blackmailing Annie over the hit-and-run death of his uncle, but when she finally stands up to him, his lurkiness increases tenfold. And the will-they-won’t-they love story between Silver and Teddy quickly becomes a will, then a won’t-again, then back to a will…for now at least.

Michelle in Austin: Anything else on 90210?
Even though Liam and Naomi are back together, things will not be easy. In fact, they are downright uncomfortable—no conversation, awkward pauses. The only thing good between the two is the sex…and we’ll see lots of it.

Simone in Hemet, Calif.: Any scoop on Southland? I need a Ben McKenzie-Michael Cudlitz fix!
New episodes of Southland finally premiere next Tuesday, and the documentary-style drama is better than ever. In addition serving up the usual crime and grime of LAPD life, the new Southland eps are a treat for O.C. fans. Look for a second Ryan-Oliver reunion when Ben Sherman’s (Ben McKenzie) sister tries to set him up with a cute girl (Grey’s Anatomy‘s Nora Zehetner), and she arrives in the company of some bonehead 90210 types including Wade (Taylor Handley). And Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) is fabulous as Regina King‘s temporary new partner. Start praying now that the ratings for Southland’s new season are awesome and that TNT sees fit to order another stack of episodes. This show is too good to lose.

Notes:

The Southland question mentioned Michael Cudlitz (Tony, Beverly Hills 90210) but, oddly, he wasn’t mentioned in the answer.

Also not sure what “bonehead 90210 types” is supposed to mean.

Handley also played Patrick on Dawson’s Creek.

19 02 2010
  • I have confirmed that Antwon Tanner (Skills, One Tree Hill) will appear in at least one episode of OTH later this season, despite being sentenced last month to three months in prison. As I reported then, Tanner hadn’t been fired from the show and he has until the end of April to begin serving his sentence, so this news makes perfect sense. I will have a spoiler on Tanner’s appearance on Sunday.
  • Change of plans again: Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill) will indeed be at the Wilmington police fundraiser tomorrow.
  • Michael Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill) chose Tobias’ poem as the winner of our contest.

  • Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210) and Matt Lanter (Liam, 90210) are participating in GameStop’s Bad Company 2 Celebrity Tournament.

  • Korbi is asking readers if One Tree Hill should return for an 8th season.
  • Hollywood Life (::cringe::) has an article in support of an 8th season (which really stems from an unfair poll they ran last week).
  • The TV Addict also has piece supporting One Tree Hill (and Life Unexpected).
  • Us Weekly (::shudder::) has a short interview with Shantel VanSanten (Quinn, One Tree Hill).
  • AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210) is on the cover of Shape Magazine, which Crushable.com thinks was photo-shopped.
  • John Schneider (Liam’s step-dad, 90210) will star in a pilot for Spike called Back Nine.
  • Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) spoke to PEOPLE.com about her fashion style and her admiration of Lady Gaga.
  • ShelterPop has an article on the Beverly Hills 90210 beach apartment being for sale. In addition to saying that it is indeed separate apartments (the listing I posted earlier this month said it was one house), there’s a picture of the inside–and it looks nothing like what we saw on the show. The intro also describes it as “Donna and David’s beachfront pad”–an odd choice considering David lived there for just one season while Donna and Kelly lived there, albeit off-and-on, for six.
  • The Wall Street Journal has an interview with Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) about Southland.
  • Shutter Island, starring Michelle Williams (Jen, Dawson’s Creek) will be released in theaters tomorrow.

  • The CW has ordered another pilot, in addition to the five shows previously announced.
  • Monday’s One Tree Hill (1.9 million rounded up) dropped a decent amount in the ratings compared to last week. This is a season- and (I believe) series-low.
  • Variety says One Tree Hill has a “better-than-50/50 shot at returning.”
  • InStyle has a short article on Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) at New York Fashion Week.
  • Due to scheduling issues, Jana Kramer (Alex, One Tree Hill) and Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill) will no longer be participating in the Wilmington police fundraiser this weekend. Instead, James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill) and Mitch Ryan (Alexander, One Tree Hill) will and possibly others.
  • Blood Done Sign My Name, a movie Lee Norris (Mouth, One Tree Hill) first told me about in August, starring him, Cullen Moss (Junk, One Tree Hill), Michael May (Chuck, One Tree Hill) and Susan Walters (Principal Rimkus), opens in theaters Friday. Star News has a review of the film.
  • The CW sent out a YouTube interview with 90210’s costume designer, Frank Helmer.
  • The contenders for the TV’s Top Couples tournament have officially been announced. They include: David/Donna (Beverly Hills 90210), Dylan/Brenda (Beverly Hills 90210), Chuck/Blair (Gossip Girl),Nate/Blair (Gossip Girl) and Ryan/Marissa (The O.C.).
  • Alexandra Patsavas (music supervisor, Gossip Girl & The O.C.) is among BuddyTV’s picks to replace Simon Cowell on American Idol.
  • I’ve never listened to This American Life before but I stumbled across an edition that had a segment about The O.C. that I really enjoyed. It starts around the 30-minute mark.

  • Holmes is included in an E! Online photogallery of stars at 18 years old.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Since Jennie Garth has said she’s not on “90210” anymore, does that mean we won’t see Kelly ever again? -Jessie
No, actually, I know for sure that Jennie will appear in at least one more episode scheduled for early next month. Rob Estes, who is also exiting the show, will be around for the remainder of the season though.

Will Naomi’s evil sister be back on “90210” or are we finally rid of her now that she’s been exposed? -PK
Oh no. We have not seen the last of Jen (Sara Foster). She’ll most certainly be back and hiding something new. Something big.

Give me some good Liam gossip! -Kate
His biological dad is going to swing into town and set some drama in motion.

Any “90210” scoop? -Perry
New couple alert. Two West Bev students — both of whom were way into other characters last we saw them — will start seeing each other when the show returns.

Notes:

This supports what I’ve said about Jennie all along.

We already knew about Liam and his biological dad, because we knew in December that Scott Patterson was cast in the role.

I think the “two West Bev students” are Ivy and Dixon.

Breaking News: The CW Renews Gossip Girl, 90210

16 02 2010

Gossip Girl and 90210 have been given early renewals for the 2010-2011 television season, according to a press release sent out today by The CW.

The network also renewed Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and America’s Next Top Model.

There was no mention of One Tree Hill or any of the other CW shows.

Per the release:

“Also given early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday night sensation GOSSIP GIRL, which is The CW’s number one show among its target demographic of women 18-34, and Tuesday’s trend-setting drama, 90210, which sees some of TV’s largest percent increases from DVR playback, nearly doubling its women 18-34 live-only ratings once live+7 data is included.”

Gossip Girl’s fourth season and 90210’s third season will begin this fall. New episodes of each for the current season will resume March 8 and March 9, respectively.
