Random Thought
26 02 2010As of this post, we still don’t know whether One Tree Hill will be renewed or canceled.
We do seem to know the schedule for the rest of the season:
4/26/10: Episode 7.19
5/3/10: Episode 7.20
5/10/10: Episode 7.21
5/17/10: Episode 7.22
Of course this schedule is subject to change but if it stays and 7.22 is the series finale, One Tree Hill would have the same end date as Beverly Hills 90210.
Things to consider:
- Beverly Hills 90210 aired its series finale on May 17, 2000. The One Tree Hill series finale would air exactly 10 years later, on a milestone anniversary for BH90210.
- Beverly Hills 90210 was the first teen drama to air, the first one to finish airing and remains the longest-running teen drama.
- One Tree Hill was the fourth teen drama to air, would be the fourth one to finish airing and is the second-longest-running teen drama.
- The common end date (arguably) gives more meaning to a video I posted last April, in which the maker declared BH90210 and OTH to be “the two greatest television shows in history.”
Interesting, no?

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210 and More
25 02 2010- Variety confirmed Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl) will indeed star in the film Oranges.
- Spoiler alert! One Tree Hill will do some filming in Utah soon and co-producer Kelly Tenney has a post on the SoGoPro blog about scouting locations for it.
- Dina Meyer (Lucinda, Beverly Hills 90210) will be on NCIS this spring.
- OK! Magazine has an interview with Shenae Grimes (Annie, 90210) about her passion for fashion.
- Gillian Zinser (Ivy, 90210) is now a regular on 90210. I wonder if Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) already is and I missed it? He came in first in my poll on this topic and Zinser ranked second.
- Michael Steger (Navid, The O.C.) appeared on the WPIX Morning News earlier this week. The video has a few spoilers. The accompanying article says his character is “often compared to David Silver from the original series.” Um, thoughts?
- WPIX also had Tate Donovan (Jimmy, The O.C.) on their show this week.
- Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) is in the new movie Cop Out, which will be in theaters tomorrow.
- Tomorrow at 2pm, SoapNet will start airing The O.C. from the beginning again. It will also start over Saturday at 8am and Monday at 1pm.
- Formosa Betrayed, starring James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) will have a limited release tomorrow. The New York Times has an interview with him and Filmcritic.com has a review of the film.

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, The O.C. and More
24 02 2010- E! Online spoke with CW head honcho Dawn Ostroff about the chances of Life Unexpected and Melrose Place being renewed. Unfortunately, One Tree Hill wasn’t discussed–or, if it was, it wasn’t include in the article.
- WECT and Star News report a CBS pilot will be filmed at Screen Gems Studios this spring, the same place that houses the One Tree Hill sets. One Tree Hill should be finished filming for the season by then but I’m not sure they’d be affected anyway. (I don’t know how big Screen Gems is but it’s noteworthy that only one major series has filmed there at a time–first Dawson’s Creek and then One Tree Hill.) Also keep in mind that where a pilot films isn’t necessarily where the series will film, if it is indeed ordered as a series.
- WECT also has an article on Wilmington’s “film industry” being stable “with or without One Tree Hill.”
- Deadline Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter both say Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl) and Michael Cassidy (Zach, The O.C.) are in the running to play Captain American. I’ve seen rumors recently that Chad Michael Murray (Lucas, One Tree Hill) and Rob Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill) were also being considered but I didn’t post them because they were just that–rumors, and from sites whose credibility I couldn’t vouch for. These two sites, however, I frequent regularly and are well-respected in the entertainment news industry.
- Chuck/Blair (Gossip Girl), Nate/Blair (Gossip Girl) and Ryan/Marissa (The O.C.) are the only teen drama couples remaining in E! Online’s TV’s Top Couples tournament. (David/Donna and Dylan/Brenda, both of Beverly Hills 90210, were eliminated.)
- Josh Schwartz (creator/executive producer, Gossip Girl; The O.C.) is reportedly working on a remake of the film Endless Love.
- There is an article on Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) in the new issue of TV Guide Magazine.
- Dawson’s Creek is included in TVGuide.com’s TV’s Biggest Blunders photogallery for losing sexual “tension a-plenty when its lead characters hooked up.”

23 02 2010RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!
Cassandra in Prescott, Ariz.: What’s going to be happening when 90210 finally returns?
Get ready for some major stalking from 90210‘s creepy drug dealer, Jasper. He’ll continue blackmailing Annie over the hit-and-run death of his uncle, but when she finally stands up to him, his lurkiness increases tenfold. And the will-they-won’t-they love story between Silver and Teddy quickly becomes a will, then a won’t-again, then back to a will…for now at least.
Michelle in Austin: Anything else on 90210?
Even though Liam and Naomi are back together, things will not be easy. In fact, they are downright uncomfortable—no conversation, awkward pauses. The only thing good between the two is the sex…and we’ll see lots of it.
Simone in Hemet, Calif.: Any scoop on Southland? I need a Ben McKenzie-Michael Cudlitz fix!
New episodes of Southland finally premiere next Tuesday, and the documentary-style drama is better than ever. In addition serving up the usual crime and grime of LAPD life, the new Southland eps are a treat for O.C. fans. Look for a second Ryan-Oliver reunion when Ben Sherman’s (Ben McKenzie) sister tries to set him up with a cute girl (Grey’s Anatomy‘s Nora Zehetner), and she arrives in the company of some bonehead 90210 types including Wade (Taylor Handley). And Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) is fabulous as Regina King‘s temporary new partner. Start praying now that the ratings for Southland’s new season are awesome and that TNT sees fit to order another stack of episodes. This show is too good to lose.

Notes:
The Southland question mentioned Michael Cudlitz (Tony, Beverly Hills 90210) but, oddly, he wasn’t mentioned in the answer.
Also not sure what “bonehead 90210 types” is supposed to mean.
Handley also played Patrick on Dawson’s Creek.

I will have a spoiler on Tanner’s appearance on Sunday.

Fun Fact
19 02 2010Five of the six teen dramas began with main characters who were siblings or would become siblings.
On Beverly Hills 90210 we have twins Brenda and Brandon, while on 90210 there’s Annie and her adopted brother Dixon. The original also had Kelly and David as step-siblings while the new show made Annie and Dixon share a half-sibling with Naomi.
On The O.C., Seth found a brother in Ryan when the Cohens became his guardian.
One Tree Hill has half-brothers Lucas and Nathan.
And Gossip Girl has Dan and Jenny as well as Serena and Eric, along with quite a few pairs of step-siblings, some involving Chuck (with Serena and Eric) and Blair (with non-main character Aaron). And, of course, Dan and Jenny became step-siblings with Serena and Eric.
The lone exception is Dawson’s Creek. No original main characters as siblings in Capeside.
But DC is one of four teen dramas that introduced a baby sibling when the first child, the main character, was in high school or older.
On BH90210, Kelly was between her junior and senior years of high school while David was between his sophomore and junior years when they got a baby half-sister, Erin, now known on 90210 as Silver.
Dawson was a senior in high school when his parents had Lily.
Seth and Ryan were out of high school when the Cohens had Sophie.
Lucas was graduating high school when his mom had a baby girl, also named Lily.
Remains to be seen whether Gossip Girl and 90210 will continue the trend!
