Favorite Valentine’s Day Episodes, Pt. 3

TODAY: The O.C.

1. Episode 1.19, The Heartbreak

I remember watching this episode when it originally aired (which actually was few days after V-Day) and being so POed and disappointed that Ryan wasn’t just ready and willing to get back with Marissa after the Oliver debacle. I remember my mom explaining to my 16-and-a-half-year-old self that Ryan’s trust and faith had been betrayed and that’s not an easy thing to get over. But lucky for me I’m a sucker for episodes where someone is broken-hearted. And lucky for us we get some comic relief when Seth and Summer’s romance finally comes to climax (no pun intended, I swear!). At the end, he sweeps her off her feet and it feels like we’re swept off ours, too.

Unlike the Chrismukkah episodes, where all four eps are must-mentions, I can’t say the same for the show’s take on Valentine’s Day. The V-Day episodes in seasons 2 and 3 are mediocre and the holiday doesn’t even get a mention in season 4. (See correction in comments.)

And thus we move on tomorrow to One Tree Hill, where it gets even more disappointing…

The Hollywood Reporter has an article listing various shows’ chances of renewal. None of the teen dramas are included, though Melrose Place (5 percent chance), Life Unexpected (55 percent), Smallville (85 percent) and Supernatural (85 percent) are. Thanks to Amy for the link.

Complex.com has two features with Bryan Greenberg (Jake, One Tree Hill). TV Guide Magazine gave his new show, How To Make It In America (which premieres Sunday), a negative review.
E! Online has a feature with Danneel Harris (Rachel, One Tree Hill).
Matthew Settle (Rufus, Gossip Girl) has joined the cast of the Broadway musical Chicago. He will be performing for 10 weeks beginning at the end of March.
StyleList has an interview with Eric Daman (costume designer, Gossip Girl).
The Wisconsin Gazette has an interview with Michael Cudlitz (Tony, Beverly Hills 90210). He mentions his Southland co-star Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) a little bit.

EW.com has a brief blog post featuring the new Gossip Girl promo I’ve been talking about.
Examiner.com has a wonderful interview with Daphne Zuniga (Victoria, One Tree Hill).
Kidult has an interview with Jana Kramer (Alex, One Tree Hill).
Both The O.C. and Dawson’s Creek are mentioned in a Zap2it article on “soundtracks of love.”
PopMatters has an interesting article on Life Unexpected, which stars Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek). Smith aside, it’s relevant to this site in terms of what they say about The CW, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and 90210.

Lots of teen drama-related tweets in this MTV.com recap of today’s celebrity tweets.
One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and 90210 all lost in The CW Awards.
Last night’s One Tree Hill (2.2 million viewers rounded up) had a very small increase in the ratings compared to last week.
Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new One Tree Hill video content this week. They should also have the new Gossip Girl promo that aired last night.
Bryan Greenberg (Jake, One Tree Hill) will be on Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night.
The new One Tree Hill Connection podcast has an interview with Bess Armstrong (Lydia, One Tree Hill).
Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea, Beverly Hills 90210) will appear on an episode of Criminal Minds.

Meester may star in the film Oranges.
The Chicago Tribune has an interview with Eric Daman (costume designer, Gossip Girl).
High Society, The CW’s new reality show focused on Tinsley Mortimer who cameo-ed on Gossip Girl last season, will debut on March 10.
Butchered, which features Cari Moskow (Patty, One Tree Hill), will be available on DVD tomorrow.
In many foreign countries, when writing the date, they put the day before the month. That makes tomorrow 9/02/10 for them. Hee hee.
E! Online has a brief interview (no pun intended) with Kellan Lutz (George, 90210) about his Calvin Klein underwear campaign.
Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210) was on The Wendy Williams Show. Inside TV has a great clip of her discussing her first 90210 kiss, which, as we know, was with Ian Ziering (Steve, Beverly Hills 90210). The show’s official site has some more info on her appearance.

Daniel Cosgrove (Matt, Beverly Hills 90210) will appear on Brothers & Sisters, which is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (writer-producer, Dawson’s Creek).
The Boston Herald has an interview with Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek).
MTV has an article on James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) and his film Formosa Betrayed.
Van Der Beek will be on Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night.
MTV also has a great article on Dawson’s Creek and what made it so good.
The Wendy Williams Show also a first kiss bit with Tate Donovan (Jimmy, The O.C.) from last week.
Dawson’s Creek and The O.C. are included in an article on shows that had strong ratings and critical acclaim at first but then lost them over time.
Fascinated by this article about a study on birth control education, where college students were shown an episode of The O.C. (circa Theresa’s pregnancy in season 1) or a news program on teen pregnancy and the reactions were compared. They found that “a fictional television drama may be more effective in persuading young women to use birth control.”
The Boston Herald also has an interview with Donovan.
Though it was interesting that Henri Lubatti (Henri-Michel, The O.C.) guest-starred on Chuck tonight, since both shows were/are executive produced by Josh Schwartz.
McG (executive producer, The O.C.) is working on the Charlie’s Angels remake. Aaron Spelling (executive producer, Beverly Hills 90210) was responsible for the original show.

I updated my Beverly Hills 90210 Season 9 DVD post with pictures.
If you have $10 million, you can buy Kelly and Donna’s beach apartment. And it’s actually one house, not separate apartments!

Star News has an article on Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill) participating in a charity event with Aerpostale.
Kristin says Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina, Gossip Girl) will be in GG’s season finale. The quotes in the article are from a spoiler chat from January, though.
According to the same article, Connor Paolo (Eric, Gossip Girl) will appear on an episode of Mercy, which also stars Trachtenberg and now James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek).
The February 8 issue of PEOPLE has a short interview with Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek). When asked about his favorite DC memory, he says: “In the summer we as a cast would go to Masonboro Island, [N.C.]. We’d get out the grill and go Jet Skiing and swimming. It was the most fun I ever had in my life.” If you recall, John Wesley Shipp (Mitch, Dawson’s Creek) made a similar comment in my interview with him.
The headline alone of this article on Fringe, which stars Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek), makes it worth posting.
McG (executive producer, The O.C.) may direct the romantic comedy This Means War.

Last night’s One Tree Hill (2.1 million viewers) had a very small drop in the ratings compared to last week but it tied the season low.

The CW officially announced 5 new pilots, two of which we already knew about. One of the others, Betwixt, will be executive produced by Paul Stupin (executive producer, Dawson’s Creek).
The new One Tree Hill Connection podcast features an interview with Terrence Coli, who wrote this week’s episode.
CBS’ Street Date has an interview with Mike Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill). Have you entered the Grubbs/Wakey!Wakey! contest yet?
ChicagoNow, my old stomping grounds, has an interview with Luke Perry (Dylan, Beverly Hills 90210). Happy to hear how much he loves Chicago and that he still has no intentions of appearing on 90210. Woo!
USA Weekend and The Wausau Daily Herald also have interviews with Perry.
E! Online has a clip from tomorrow night’s Leverage, which features Perry.
Ben Affleck spoke to MTV about Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl).
