News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and 90210

26 03 2010

News Roundup: 90210, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and The O.C.

24 03 2010
  • Last night’s 90210 (1.5 million viewers) dropped quite a bit in the ratings compared to last week, hitting a new season- and series-low. If you recall, two weeks ago was a season/series-low of 1.7 and now the show has sunk even lower.
  • Love TVGuideMagazine.com’s recap/pop quiz about last night’s 90210. It’s quite funny and quite accurate, IMO.
  • About.com has an interview with Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210).
  • The Wild Girl, starring Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) will premiere on the Hallmark Channel April 24. They also reiterate that Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) will be in one of their movies later this year.
  • At work today, Gossip Cop and I busted a story about Doherty supposedly feuding with her Dancing With The Stars co-star Kate Gosselin.
  • Douglas Emerson (Scott, Beverly Hills 90210) is included in TVGuide.com’s photogallery of ’90s Stars We Want Back on TV.
  • Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa, Gossip Girl) are part of the new Op campaign. They previously featured AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210) and Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill).
  • The Austin Post-Bulletin has a surprisingly well-written piece by a male teenager explaining his love of Gossip Girl.
  • The Jewish Journal has an interesting feature on Bryan Greenberg (Jake, One Tree Hill).
  • Melinda Clarke (Julie, The O.C.) makes her first appearance on The Vampire Diaries tomorrow night.

Exclusive: A Quick Chat With 90210’s Trevor Donovan

23 03 2010

I had the privilege of recently catching up with 90210’s Trevor Donovan via e-mail. The three big take-aways from our conversation: you can keep calling him Ken, don’t be afraid to (respectfully) approach him on the street and, oh yeah, tune into the show!

TeenDramaWhore: When you joined the show over the summer, did you have any idea Teddy would still be around all these months later?

Trevor Donovan: I wasn’t sure. I was just having a great time working with the cast.

TDW: Will you be back for season 3?

Donovan: Stay tuned.

TDW: What’s been the easiest thing about working on 90210 and what’s been the hardest?

Donovan: Easiest: well, working with such great cast mates. Hardest: being so close to the beach and not be able to surf.

TDW: There’s two things we know are coming up for Teddy: more interaction with Silver [Jessica Stroup] and Teddy’s father, Spence [Ryan O’Neal], comes to town. Can you tell us what to expect with those?

Donovan: Expect good things.  Love Jessica Stroup… she’s amazing.

TDW: The show has shown its philanthropic side by collaborating with Habitat for Humanity and Warriors in Pink. What were those experiences like for you?

Donovan: A lot of fun.  Am looking forward to doing more..

TDW: In an episode earlier this season, Ivy [Gillian Zinser] jokingly told Teddy not to tweet about her relationship with Liam [Matt Lanter]. As an actor, what value do you think Twitter has?

Donovan: Well, it is such a random thing… if I think of it, I’ll text a tweet.

TDW: A lot of people have looked at you this past year and compared you to a Ken doll. Compliment or insult?

Donovan: Ken is world-known and treated his lady (Barbie) pretty well, as far as I know….so, I’ll take it as a compliment.

TDW: Have you had any interesting fan encounters?

Donovan: Every one of them. I really like meeting fans.

TDW: What’s one thing people don’t know about you?

Donovan: I sing and play guitar.

TDW: What other projects are you working on?

Donovan: Right now I’m taking a vacation and helping out my Mom on the house. Stayed tuned for future projects. Thanks for chatting. I hope you guys enjoy the rest of season 2 of 90210. Keep watching!

Come back Sunday for another exclusive interview!

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, The O.C., 90210 and One Tree Hill

16 03 2010
  • Last night’s Gossip Girl (1.7 million viewers) stayed the same in the ratings compared to last week, making that two weeks in a row with a record-low. Meanwhile, Life Unexpected had a nice increase in ratings, which The CW (rightfully) bragged about in a press release, while also spinning GG’s numbers.
  • At work today, Gossip Cop and I busted Access Hollywood and OK! Magazine for citing one of the fake Twitter accounts for Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl).
  • Zap2it has an interview with Aaron Tveit (Tripp, Gossip Girl), mostly about Ugly Betty.
  • Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl) and Chris Carmack (Luke, The O.C.) star in the TV movie Beauty & The Briefcase, which will air on ABCFamily April 18.
  • Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) wrote a piece for TVGuide.com about tonight’s episode of Southland. Apparently this is the third week he’s done this. News to me!
  • Bonnie Somerville (Rachel, The O.C.) and Matt Lanter (Liam, 90210) each participated in a short trivia game with DailyFill, where the questions happened to be predominantly about our teen dramas!
  • The CW Source, BuzzSugar and TeenTelevision.com have spoilish interviews with Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210).
  • Alloy and TV.com have spoilish interviews with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210). Really not happy with the factually-inaccurate and insulting answer he gave to the last question in the latter one. (BTW, have you read my interview with him?)
  • Crushable.com has a post highlighting “5 Dudes Who Are Way Too Old To Be Playing Teenagers on TV,” including Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) and making references to Steger and Andrea (Gabrielle Carteris, Beverly Hills 90210).
  • The Walshes ranked 49th in TV Guide Magazine’s list of Top 50 TV Families.
  • For the week of February 22, One Tree Hill had one of the top 10 biggest gains when DVR ratings were factored in.
  • Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) posted a new vlog earlier this month on the SoGoPro site.
  • Kate Voegele (Mia, One Tree Hill) is going on tour with Jordin Sparks.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210 and More

25 02 2010
  • Variety confirmed Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl) will indeed star in the film Oranges.
  • Spoiler alert! One Tree Hill will do some filming in Utah soon and co-producer Kelly Tenney has a post on the SoGoPro blog about scouting locations for it.
  • Dina Meyer (Lucinda, Beverly Hills 90210) will be on NCIS this spring.
  • OK! Magazine has an interview with Shenae Grimes (Annie, 90210) about her passion for fashion.
  • Gillian Zinser (Ivy, 90210) is now a regular on 90210. I wonder if Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) already is and I missed it? He came in first in my poll on this topic and Zinser ranked second.
  • Michael Steger (Navid, The O.C.) appeared on the WPIX Morning News earlier this week. The video has a few spoilers. The accompanying article says his character is “often compared to David Silver from the original series.” Um, thoughts?
  • WPIX also had Tate Donovan (Jimmy, The O.C.) on their show this week.
  • Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) is in the new movie Cop Out, which will be in theaters tomorrow.
  • Tomorrow at 2pm, SoapNet will start airing The O.C. from the beginning again. It will also start over Saturday at 8am and Monday at 1pm.
  • Formosa Betrayed, starring James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) will have a limited release tomorrow. The New York Times has an interview with him and Filmcritic.com has a review of the film.

Weekly Poll

10 02 2010

In the last Weekly Poll, we had clear winners in all three questions. Fifty-six percent of voters said they were completely familiar with John Hughes before last week’s One Tree Hill. More interestingly is that 20 percent said they weren’t familiar at all, while 23 percent said they somewhat were. Fifty-five percent of you are strongly against a Vampire Diaries/Gossip Girl cross-over but 28 percent said it would depend on how it would work and 17 percent were game since they love both shows. Teddy/Trevor Donovan earned 50 percent of the vote on the question of who should be bumped up to regular status on 90210 with the next highest amount, 24 percent, going to Ivy/Gillian Zinser. Both Jasper/Zachary Ray Sherman and Jen/Sara Foster had 13 percent of the vote each.

Weekly Poll

3 02 2010

In the last Weekly Poll, 40 percent of voters said they prefer Quinn to Taylor but 24 percent said the opposite. Still, another 14 percent want them both gone and 23 percent would like both to stay. The second poll had a three-way tie with 26 percent each saying the Blair and Chuck spoiler has them crying, excited or bored. Twenty-three percent said they were just curious. It was extremely close in the last poll as well, where 36 percent said 90210 doesn’t need more parents and 31 percent disagreed and were looking forward to meeting Teddy and Liam’s dads but 33 percent said they were indifferent.

News Roundup: 90210, Dawson’s Creek and The O.C.

7 01 2010
  • Ryan O’Neal has been cast as Spence Montgomery, father to Teddy (Trevor Donovan). We’ve known for a while that we’d see Spence in upcoming episodes but this is the first casting announcement.
  • Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) is working on a new book, tentatively titled uncharted terriTORI and scheduled for release in June.
  • While researching something earlier, I came across this New York Times article from 2000, which was published shortly before Beverly Hills 90210 ended. On May 17, it will be 10 years since the series finale. (In September, it will be 20 years since the series premiere!)
  • Finding the above article reminded me of this one, which quoted me when I was all of 12 years old!
  • Beginning Monday, The CW will allow people to watch the first ten minutes of Life Unexpected, starring Shiri Appleby (Rene, Beverly Hills 90210) and Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek), on their Facebook Fan page.
