News Roundup: One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210 and More

  • SoapNet has a new quiz called Which O.C. Lady Are You? I got Taylor Townsend and was told, “High-strung doesn’t even begin to describe you. Brainy, passionate, focused — there’s nothing you do that you don’t dedicate at least 100 percent to. But as accomplished as this may make you, remember to let loose every once in awhile. Life can’t always be planned out.”
  • Gossip Cop and I busted an In Touch story about Tom Cruise wanting Katie Holmes (Joey, Dawson’s Creek) to get Botox.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Is Rob Estes leaving 90210? — Barbara
MICKEY: Yes. As has been previously reported, neither he nor Jennie Garth will be back next season. It’s no secret that the new showrunners have officially shut down Operation Nostalgia. Shannen Doherty tells us that plans for Brenda to return have been scrapped, and don’t expect Donna to ever drop in from Tokyo again — with or without David.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and 90210

31 05 2010
  • Mediaweek has an interesting article evaluating the broadcast networks, based on their past performance and fall schedules. They had pretty much all positive things to say about The CW, though none of our teen dramas were specifically mentioned.
  • OnTheRecord.com has a spoilish interview with Penn Badgley (Dan, Gossip Girl) but it doesn’t seem to contain anything we don’t already know.
  • FanBolt has an interview with Tyler Hilton (Chris, One Tree Hill). There’s a decent amount of OTH talk.
  • Ian Ziering (Steve, Beverly Hills 90210) got married over the weekend, and the wedding was attended by several co-stars, including Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210), Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210) and Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210).

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210, The O.C. and Gossip Girl

26 05 2010
  • I am deeply saddened to report that Disney has decided to cease operations of SoapNet beginning in 2012. The network is being replaced with Disney Junior. As you are all aware, SoapNet currently airs reruns of One Tree Hill, Beverly Hills 90210 and The O.C. I do not know what this means for the syndication deals currently in place for those shows. Quite frankly, I am still trying to process this development. In the meantime, I have four things to offer: the press release from Disney, a post from SoapNet and articles from the New York Times and Entertainment Weekly, the latter of which makes some very interesting points. Thank you to Daniel and Gloria for alerting me to the news.
  • In the last Weekly Poll, all three questions had results with large margins. Sixty-three percent believe Quinn and Clay aren’t dead on One Tree Hill, though 5 percent believe it’s quite possible. Another 17 percent have no idea but hope not while 15 percent have no idea but hope so. The Jenny-Chuck storyline on Gossip Girl made 64 percent of voters feel disgusted while just 17 percent were entertained. Nine percent were torn while 10 percent are still trying to process it. Lastly, 71 percent believe 90210’s Naomi was about to be raped by Mr. Cannon. Nineteen percent don’t think that’s happened while 10 percent had no idea. The Weekly Poll will be on hiatus during, um, the hiatus. In the meantime, we have the show evaluations and soon I’ll be resuming weekly trivia on Twitter.
  • Korbi has the next part of her interview with Mark Schwahn (creator, One Tree Hill). Here he discusses whether he wants the show to continue past an eighth season.
  • Registration has opened for Christy-Anne’s second One Tree Hill fan reunion, which will be held this July.
  • Shannen Doherty (Brenda, Beverly Hills 90210) performed during last night’s Dancing With The Stars finale. I haven’t found YouTube video of it yet to link to.
  • Gossip Cop and I busted a false National Enquirer story about Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) and Megan Fox.
  • The Huffington Post has an interesting interview with the band Rooney, and there’s some references to their appearance on The O.C.
  • Josh Schwartz (executive producer, Gossip Girl; The O.C.) and Stephanie Savage (executive producer, Gossip Girl; The O.C.) will produce the film Fun Size with their new company Fake Empire.
  • ESPN has a short interview with Ron Machado, who appears with Blake Lively (Serena, Gossip Girl) in her Vogue spread.

  • EW.com named Ed Westwick (Chuck, Gossip Girl) one of 20 Brilliant TV Brits.
  • Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl) was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. The interview is pretty good and funny, despite or perhaps because of two mistakes Kimmel makes.
  • MTV named Crawford one of their top 5 “hot environmentally-minded celebrities.”
  • E! Online has an interview with James Lafferty (Nathan, One Tree Hill). Don’t forget: my interview with James will be posted Sunday!
  • Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill), Shantel VanSanten (Quinn, One Tree Hill) and Carolyn Hennesy (Mrs. Valentine, Dawson’s Creek) were presenters at the PRISM Awards yesterday.

  • The Wild Girl, starring Green, premieres tomorrow night on the Hallmark Movie Channel.
  • AreYouScreening.com has an interview with Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.), to coincide with the DVD release of Homecoming, which also stars Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210). It’s a pretty decent interview, though there aren’t any O.C. mentions.

Brian Austin Green on Beverly Hills 90210

23 04 2010

“Overall, it was great. We were a really tight family. There was a bond there even through all of our differences and hating and loving each other. I still talk to Luke [Perry, Dylan] all the time. It’s one of those things you feel you’ll never really be able to duplicate.”

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210 and Gossip Girl

18 04 2010
  • In June, shortly after TV season wraps, I’ll be resuming my weekly trivia game on Twitter. I’ll post more details as we get closer to it.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, 90210, One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek

  • You can enter a sweepstakes to win the dress Silver (Jessica Stroup, 90210) wore to the Winter Wonderland dance.
  • Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) will make his return to Smallville on Friday’s episode. Ausiello has an exclusive sneak peek of one of his scenes.
  • Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) has been cast in Southern Discomfort, an ABC pilot. This DOES NOT mean One Tree Hill is canceled or that Bush is abandoning ship. 1) OTH has not been canceled–or renewed. 2) If OTH is renewed, Bush is contractually obligated to do OTH. 3) She is simply preparing herself for what may be a reality. It’s a smart move.
  • Also noteworthy in the short article about the casting is Deadline’s take that OTH has a 50-50 chance at renewal. They also “presume” that it’s OTH versus Life Unexpected, which stars Kerr Smith (Jack, Dawson’s Creek). The Hollywood Reporter says the shows “are considered to be” in competition.
  • Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) won a Genie Award for his acting work in the movie One Week. He reportedly mentioned DC in his acceptance speech. He looks adorable in the photo.

  • You can watch the trailer for Call Me Fitz (previously called Meet Phil Fitz), the upcoming Canadian series starring Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210). Warning: this is NSFW and very far removed from Brandon Walsh! (I think the latter is part of the point.)

  • Kristin also has some spoilers, but less big.
