RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Quincy in New York: I’m devastated at the rumor that ***** and ***** will hook up on Gossip Girl! Please say it isn’t so!
It so…is. Sorry. Sources confirm that a certain someone will be doing a certain something for the first time and it will cause some serious heartbreak—for you fans and another girl on the show. And that might not be the only hookup shocker! I’m told that “A Gossip Girl blast goes out about Dan and Serena that will not make Vanessa or Nate happy.” Suffice to say, the finale is going to have lots of romantic upheaval, so buckle up. Oh, and the good news? I’m hearing that at least one core G.G. couple will end up happy at the end of the season. Say your prayers for your fave now!

Katelyn in Oahu: 90210 details are seriously needed.
Liam finally sets sail in his boat, but sadly, it’s almost instantly destroyed in a firey death—with him and Annie on board! And remember that crazy-horrible-mind-blowing thing we’ve teased happens to Naomi? It’s right around the corner and involves an action that’s both physical and devastating.

News Roundup: 90210, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and Dawson’s Creek

6 05 2010
  • Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new video content this week.
  • ScreenStar has a spoilish interview with Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210).
  • The Sun has an interview with Sara Foster (Jen, 90210).
  • Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills 90210) and husband Dean McDermott will be renewing their vows.
  • Zap2it has an pretty good interview with Mike Grubbs (Grubbs, One Tree Hill), where he seems to imply two possible endings have been shot for the finale. Have you read my interview with him?
  • Us Weekly is reporting Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) has had a baby with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I first heard about this months ago but refrained from posting it as it was not reported by the mainstream media (until now).
  • Burton has a new blog post on the SoGoPro blog (unrelated to the above).
  • There’s a new Talking Gossip After Dark podcast, featuring my recap of this week’s episode.
  • A woman in Florida is urging her local public library system to not have Gossip Girl books be available to teens.
  • Joel Schumacher, the director of Twelve, which stars Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl), spoke about him and GG in an interview.
  • North By Northwestern, a publication at my alma mater, has a decent tribute to Dawson’s Creek.
  • The Frisky also has a DC tribute of sorts, and it features interesting (and, in my opinion, fairly valid) comparisons to Gossip Girl.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Forget about Chuck and Blair! The real craziness that’s going down toward the end of this season of Gossip Girl is all about who’s saying goodbye.

On the heels of the news that Taylor Momsen‘s Jenny Humphrey will be leaving the Upper East Side this season, I’m told now that yet another female regular will be heading off into the sunset. (And leaving one heartbroken boy behind.)

So who is it?

Marcio in Ipswich, Mass.: Could we get some news on One Tree Hill or Melrose Place? Will they both stick around?
Nope. I’m told Melrose Place is pretty much a goner. It would take a miracle for it to survive at this point. However, the jury’s still out on One Tree Hill. The ratings in the next few weeks do matter, and it returns with a new episode tonight. (Hint, hint.)

Bob in Oakland, Calif.: Are we gonna see my girl Kristen Bell again on Party Down?
Yes! Adam Scott spilled the scoop: “When the season starts, Uda (Kristen Bell) is my steady girlfriend. But then Casey (Lizzy Caplan) comes back into the fold and kind of screws everything up.” Thus freeing Kristen to reteam with creator and executive producer Rob Thomas for a Veronica Mars movie, right? We kid. But don’t give up hope yet: “I’d love to do one,” said Rob at the Party Down Paley Center for Media celebration for the show’s second season premiere. “Kristen would love to do one…We [just] need someone to pay for it!” Empty your piggy-banks, kids!

Marlo in London: What’s the scoop on Vanessa and Dan on Gossip Girl?
It’s not looking good long-term, sorry! I’m hearing that Vanessa will be leaving not only New York but the country before the end of the season–running off to a superfancy and superfar job with CNN. So yes, Jessica is the second female, along with Taylor Momsen’s Little J, to head off into the sunset. The good news? I’m told by sources that both ladies will still be series regulars next season. As for you wondering what Little J will do that leads to her departure, I’m told “it’s a culmination of lots of things Jenny does to multiple people.” That doesn’t sound good at all!

Matthew in Philadelphia: What’s the word on Gossip Girl?
Don’t expect Serena to continue to sit idly by while Jenny tries to hone in on Nate. The onetime pals and now stepsisters are headed for some seriously rough times ahead.

Jenelle from Conn.: Yay! One Tree Hill is back tonight! The death of Haley’s mom made for such a great episode! What happens after?
Well, when we talked to James Lafferty, he had this to say: “Haley has a long road ahead of her in dealing with her mother’s death, as anybody would. A big part of the Scott family life will be dealing with the grief. It’s definitely a growing experience for the family.” Another tease? Here’s the deal with Nathan for the rest of the season: “He’s finally got some time to spend with his family, and his family at this point in their lives really needs him,” James tells us. “He really gets the opportunity to be a father and a husband.” Model husband and father? Adorable.

Evelyn in Tacoma, Wash.: 90210 is really getting good, but how are things going to go down between Debbie and Harry if Rob Estes is leaving?
Believe it or not, Annie’s going to be the one to point out the marriage woes between her parents, causing them to really sit down and talk things over. But when Debbie finds out that Harry has pretty much enabled Dixon’s little gambling problems, something (one would find in a diaper) is going to hit the fan.

Notes:

I can’t see why the ratings at this point would have much of an impact on whether One Tree Hill is renewed. To date, One Tree Hill has outperformed both Gossip Girl and 90210, which received early renewals. Even if One Tree Hill dropped during these next four episodes, Gossip Girl and 90210 have dropped significantly in the last few months. OTH wouldn’t be the only show underperforming. Clearly ratings aren’t the biggest factor to The CW. That said I realize there’s more value in GG/90210 at low ratings than there is with OTH at low ratings. If I had to guess–and I’ll do it with a disclaimer that I’m far less experienced than Kristin–I’d say that while decent ratings are preferred, OTH’s renewal will really be based on how The CW’s pilots turn out and whether the network would rather risk starting a new series or risk sticking with an aging one.

Kristen Bell voices Gossip Girl on, um, Gossip Girl.

Then stick around for GG 3.13, The Hurt Locket.

News Roundup: One Tree Hill, 90210 and Gossip Girl

18 04 2010
  • In June, shortly after TV season wraps, I’ll be resuming my weekly trivia game on Twitter. I’ll post more details as we get closer to it.
  • Due to Facebook limitations on how many friends a user can have, Bethany Joy Galeotti (Haley, One Tree Hill) has started a fan page.
  • Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) won the “celebrity race” at the Long Beach Grand Prix yesterday.
  • Matthew Settle (Rufus, Gossip Girl) spoke to PEOPLE about how he’s coping with his separation from his wife and their impending divorce.
  • Settle’s stint in the Broadway show Chicago begins tomorrow night.
  • Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl) recently participated in a conference call with journalists. She vaguely talks about GG without specifically mentioning it.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, The O.C., 90210 and One Tree Hill

16 03 2010
  • Last night’s Gossip Girl (1.7 million viewers) stayed the same in the ratings compared to last week, making that two weeks in a row with a record-low. Meanwhile, Life Unexpected had a nice increase in ratings, which The CW (rightfully) bragged about in a press release, while also spinning GG’s numbers.
  • At work today, Gossip Cop and I busted Access Hollywood and OK! Magazine for citing one of the fake Twitter accounts for Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl).
  • Zap2it has an interview with Aaron Tveit (Tripp, Gossip Girl), mostly about Ugly Betty.
  • Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl) and Chris Carmack (Luke, The O.C.) star in the TV movie Beauty & The Briefcase, which will air on ABCFamily April 18.
  • Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan, The O.C.) wrote a piece for TVGuide.com about tonight’s episode of Southland. Apparently this is the third week he’s done this. News to me!
  • Bonnie Somerville (Rachel, The O.C.) and Matt Lanter (Liam, 90210) each participated in a short trivia game with DailyFill, where the questions happened to be predominantly about our teen dramas!
  • The CW Source, BuzzSugar and TeenTelevision.com have spoilish interviews with Tristan Wilds (Dixon, 90210).
  • Alloy and TV.com have spoilish interviews with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210). Really not happy with the factually-inaccurate and insulting answer he gave to the last question in the latter one. (BTW, have you read my interview with him?)
  • Crushable.com has a post highlighting “5 Dudes Who Are Way Too Old To Be Playing Teenagers on TV,” including Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) and making references to Steger and Andrea (Gabrielle Carteris, Beverly Hills 90210).
  • The Walshes ranked 49th in TV Guide Magazine’s list of Top 50 TV Families.
  • For the week of February 22, One Tree Hill had one of the top 10 biggest gains when DVR ratings were factored in.
  • Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill) posted a new vlog earlier this month on the SoGoPro site.
  • Kate Voegele (Mia, One Tree Hill) is going on tour with Jordin Sparks.
  • Michaela McManus (Lindsey, One Tree Hill) has been cast as one of the leads in the CW pilot Nomads.

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and 90210

12 03 2010
  • The TV Addict has a graphic demonstrating the question many have been asking: why was Gossip Girl renewed and why is One Tree Hill on the bubble when OTH outperforms GG?
  • Kelly Rutherford (Lily, Gossip Girl) is on the cover of the April issue of Working Mother magazine. Looks like they posted the full interview online.
  • OneTreeHillBlog.com posted a wonderful picture of the cast in Utah.
  • The Park Record has another article about OTH filming in Utah.
  • Danneel Harris (Rachel, One Tree Hill) got one of the lead roles in Friends With Benefits, an NBC pilot.
  • Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills 90210) was on the WPIX Morning News today and made some interesting comments about 90210.
  • PopEater has an interview with Garth.
  • TVGuide.com says new episodes of 90210 + Gabrielle Carteris (Andrea, Beverly Hills 90210) on Criminal Minds + Ian Ziering (Steve, Beverly Hills 90210) on CSI: NY all on the same night = Best Nostalgia Trip of the week.
  • Jason Priestley (Brandon, Beverly Hills 90210) will guest co-host the fourth hour of TODAY on Monday.
  • PEOPLE.com has an article on Jason Lewis (Rob, Beverly Hills 90210).

News Roundup: Gossip Girl, 90210 and One Tree Hill

9 03 2010
  • The Daily Beast has an interesting post about people 30ish and older watching teen dramas.
  • Be sure to check out The CW’s site for all the new video content this week.
  • Last night’s Gossip Girl (1.7 million viewers) dropped quite significantly in the ratings compared to the last episode and dropped to what I’m pretty sure is a series-low. Also noteworthy: A) this is lower than One Tree Hill’s series-low a few weeks ag0 (though OTH usually outperforms GG to begin with), B) this is lower than Life Unexpected’s ratings for last night, and C) the GG and LUX ratings are both significantly lower than the ratings ABCFamily’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Make It Or Break It got.
  • Parade.com has an interview with Taylor Momsen (Jenny, Gossip Girl).
  • Hilary Duff (Olivia, Gossip Girl) is writing a book series for young adults.
  • Brittany Snow (Young Lily, Gossip Girl) has been cast in Kindreds, an NBC pilot.
  • Korbi has a video interview with Jessica Stroup (Silver, 90210).
  • The CW Source has a spoiler-filled video interview with Jessica Lowndes (Adrianna, 90210). (Not sure why Zap2it has it and I can’t find it on the Source’s site or YT page.)
  • The CW Source also has a second part to their interview with Michael Steger (Navid, 90210).
  • Starpulse has an article on Steger.
  • The official One Tree Hill Twitter account will be tweeting videos each day as the show films in Utah and continuing until the hiatus ends on April 26.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS–DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!!!

Wallace: Any word on whether One Tree Hill or Life Unexpected will get another season?
My sources are telling me it’s most likely that only one will survive, but that it looks like nothing will be announced until the upfronts in New York in May (when the networks announce all their fall schedules). I saw Dawn Ostroff at The Vampire Diaries event Saturday night and wanted to ask, but she slipped into the night all Damon-like. Boo! Oh, and a reminder on Life Unexpected: It moves to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) on the CW. Check it out if you haven’t yet!

Deirdre: Any scoop on Gossip Girl?
Georgina has found something even bigger than Bible camp: Bleach! When we ran into her in NYC recently, she said this of her upcoming role on GG: “There’s definitely going to be some stalking. There’s gonna be a few changes to Georgina’s appearance, so you’ll have to tune in and see if you can recognize me.” When we guessed she was going blond, M.T. just said, “I don’t know,” but from the looks of this new photo we just nabbed of her, I fear she may be going Single White Female on Serena’s ass. Run for you life, “S”!

Maureen in Boston: You need to give more scoop on One Tree Hill! What’s happening coming up?
I’m hearing Haley is going to go into severe depression following her mom’s death. Sadness.

Rebecca: How about some 90210 scoop please!
Soitenly! I’m hearing that Dixon and Ivy are going to fake-date to make Liam jealous, but Dixon is going to start having some feelings for Ivy. Oh, the tangled web young love can weave!
